EXCLUSIVE: Young actor Mason Cook (Spy Kids In 4D) is set to co-star opposite Eddie Izzard and Charity Wakefield in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. Cook will play Eddie Munster, Lily and Herman’s only child, an earnest boy scout and budding werewolf. Horrified to learn the truth about himself, he refuses to eat meat and faces off against Grandpa (Izzard) at dinner. Cook has recurred on ABC’s The Middle and has roles in two upcoming movies: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, where he plays a younger version of the title character, played by Steve Carell; and Disney’s The Lone Ranger.

Why not just call it The Munsters and be done with it? Not cool enough in 2012? SMH
Universal has had a lot of rights issues with this property, mostly around the likenesses of the characters and has since it acquired it.
The original Kayro-Vue contracts are nightmares.
It’s why every incarnation and reboot of the franchise on TV and in the comics (like the ones back in the 90′s) has tried to develop a new look and take for the studio to own “clean”.

Hence the re-title is the icing on the cake for the legal dept.

Mockingbird Lane sounds like a Desperate Housewives/Wisteria Lane knockoff. I agree w/ AfterwardDeified, just cut to the chase & call it what it is: The Munsters.
I love Eddie Izzard’s guts, & the 2 Bryans’ are such great idea men; but Christ on a cracker, this seems like a truly dreadful idea.
If NBC’s idea is to chase ABC’s audience and do a fantasy soap, then Hermann better be played by some hunky guy. That should be an entertaining sight. Is he still going to be green?
Meanwhile, Lily will be portrayed by Teri Hatcher.
PS, there are legal reasons why they can’t use The Munsters as the name.

Brad Garrett should play Herman Munster. Alexis Menesis who played Stefania on Everybody loves Raymond should play Lily Munster opposite Brad Garrett
I agree wholeheartedly. As much as I like Jerry O’Connell (what a stud!!) I think that Brad Garrett would bring much more life to Herman. I have seen a couple of women in the running for Lily and I just cannot decide which one I like best!!!!

Actually, Netflix has done wonders when it comes to the youngsters in my family getting ‘up to speed’ with shows as early as the ’50s. No idea how well this will do, but there are ways to bridge the generation gap

I could see Garrett or Patrick Warburton in the role, but they’re both busy. Brendan Fraser would work.
I’m a huge fan of the original munsters and this sounds like a dreadful idea to me but ill give it a shot, but no way in hell is it gonna replace the original, and honestly I don’t hink it will have a big following but hey I may be wrong
