NBC has pulled the plug on one of its most watched series, David E. Kelley‘s Harry’s Law starring Kathy Bates. The Oscar winner posted the news on Twitter. “Sad news today. Harry’s Law will not be renewed for a 3rd season. We are all terribly sad. Many thanks for all your support.” A rare TV series with a 60something as the lead, Harry’s Law defied the odds and, while very soft in the younger demo, drew eyeballs. This season it has been NBC’s second most-watched drama series with 8.8 million viewers, just a smidgen behind Smash, which had a Super Bowl-boosted launch and NBC’s biggest series, The Voice, as a lead-in. It has been a bittersweet week for Kelley who just got a series order at TNT for his new medical drama Monday Mornings.

“most watched series”… This just seems absurd to me. For anyone who still second guessing how important the coveted demo is, here is proof. Hope it ends up biting NBC in the end.
Right? And people still insist on complaining. This should be a definite proof that what matters is the demo
A show worth watching. NBC is ran by boneheads. You killed a show that was your 2nd highest rated show? Yes the demo wasn’t great. However the show gave the network a pulse. Once NBC kills off 30 Rock I don’t think there will be anything on that network I will watch.
I totally agree. Harry’s Law was one of my favorite shows. I can’t believe the idiots at NBC would do that to such a high rated show. Find a new lead-in or follow-up for it an resurrect this show!!!!!
I can’t believe that NBC who has very few shows worth watching would cancel an excellent series like Harry’s Law. I guess this goes to show how a great show with a great cast can’t make it in the vast wasteland called Television.
Please bring back this show!!!! I am so tired of the “alleged” reality shows and lame comedies! Finally something worth watching and it is cancelled!?!?
Sadly, your “vast wasteland” reference from then-FCC Commisioner Newton Minnow from the early 60′s totally goes over the head of the coveted demo NBC is trying to attract. The show was too good for the morons at NBC U and their new owners, Comcast. So they will over-load their schedule with cheaper sitcoms that can be modularly swapped out like blown tires when they inevitably fail.
I just found out today that Harry’s Law is being canceled. I cannot believe it. My husband and I love the show. It is a good clean show that makes sense and really has a story to it. The show makes you laugh and cry. It shows that people really care about other people. So many of the shows of Harrys Law are based on real things that are going on in the real world. This is a show that everyone should watch. This show is 100 times over, better that reality TV shows. It really makes me sad that it will no longer be on. Maybe another station will pick it up.
I agree, Harry’s Law is one of the most entertaining and smart shows on TV. It confronts and brings awareness to controversial topics through it’s stories. The actors do an excellent job and it is one of ours as well as many of our friends favorite shows.
I am so tired of canceling shows because most of the viewers are older. Maybe we like a show that has some intelligence, not the majority of the slapstick and totally brainless shows on television.
I sincerely hope another station or cable picks it up. We just watched the finale and as usual it evokes lot of emotion.
NBC get with it, this cancellation is really ridiculous.
With all the “lawyer” shows on TV, HARRY’S LAW was one of the best, with a great cast in my opinion. I absolutely love Kathy Bates in the lead role. Nobody pulls off sarcasm as well as she does. I’m so angry that this show would be cancelled, yet the networks keep stuffing stupid reality shows down our throats.
This just doesn’t make sense! Why would you cancel a great show like “Harry’s Law”? Not filled with sex, violence or other stuff that is so objectional is why my kids and I anticipating it each week. So sad, we love Kathy Bates and her sarcasm is priceless. I have to find a different network, guess my hold out for not having
cable will end. Sad, sad, sad.
I am so p….d off about Harrys law! I loved that show. Just gonna watch other stations from now on!
Who’s in charge? Marc Zucker?? Who ever is in charge is an idiot. It’s a GREAT show….
Just finished watching the final episode of Harry’s Law. (2nd time) I love and have loved this show from the beginning. The cast was excellent, wonderful stories, how very sad that a show as exceptional as this one should go down the drain. By the way – the final episode – pure dignity and class unlike the reason for the cancellation. I shall miss Harry’s Law.
Somebody do something. (I’m hoping)
Harry’s Law was our favorite show on tv. WHY would they cancel it?
I even enjoy watching the ones I have already seen. Come on NBC — admit you were wrong and bring Harry’s Law back to us.
My husband and I loved watching her show can’t believe you took it off. These big wheels at NBC are really trying to get people not to watch their channels. I’m really sorry about that. Hopefully another channel will take it over
I agree with those here. Harry’s Law was a great show. It stood up against many others and it’s sad that NBC will remove it from the air. They should reconsider. Kathy Bates is awesome in it. Love the personalities and more importantly love the writing of story situations.
Harry’s Law is, or now WAS, one of the few programs worth watching on NBC…stellar cast, thought-provoking storylines, emotionally-charged connections with its viewers. It addressed social challenges that affect all of us in some way, focusing on doing the right thing, making the right choices, and taking care of each other. Pay more attention to the substance of Harry’s Law and less attention to demographics – has NBC even seen the program???
I couldn’t agree more. Harry’s Law was one of the best written and acted shows on TV. CBS has now become are one and only channel–Harry’s Law was the only show that gave NBC a chance with us!
I have just seen that there is no more of Harry’s Law,I loved this programme what a bunch of Idiots NBC are
I agree. This is more a reflection of the morons at the top at NBC, who think the only demographic they need to cater to is the 18-4o-year-old crowd. I loved Harry’s Law and looked forward to seeing it each week. I wish a cable channel would pick it up. We have no respect for age in this country and it filters through everything.
i thought harrys law the best written, best acted series on TV! i hope another station picks it up and shows NBC what idiots they are.
this show offered such great humor, compassion, and intelligence to timely topics: i admired david kelley for his courage to take on the topics he did, and give us always something to think about..
NBC folks are dumb!
NBC has surely lost their minds! Talk about sticking it to the viewers. Why would you even think about canceling Harry’s Law? Don’t be dreaming that we will tune into ANY show that you replace it with. And as far as reallity shows, they can take a long walk off a short pier.
I agree completely. NBC apparently wants to pander to the 30-40 set.
It is almost enough to discontinue my satellite subscription. It was one of our favorite shows. I hope Fox or CBS will take it under their wing. Bring it back.
I just can’t figure what kind of company would take down such a successful show.
I agree totally with these viewers! Harry’s Law was a top show.
So Few are worth watching. Guess we need another housewives of something or nothing!! Please bring back Harry’s Law!! This has been a great program with relevant topics and can’t imagine how this cancellation is justified!
Amen! Don’t they know the “over 50 crowd” makes most of the money and has greater buying power than the 26 year-old texters and tweeters still living with mom and dad? Finally, a show like Harry’s Law that has smart writing, great storyline and captivating characters. What’s not to love? NBC is run by a bunch of Armani-suited nincompoops.
NBC is totally off base in cancelling this show. I found it to be one of the best written, shows on TV as well as being very believable and addressing current topics facing our legal system today. This show has everything, comedy, human interest, wonderful acting. Even my husband, who is rarely into TV at all, became involved with the characters especially Kathy Bates. What are the “mucky mucks” thinking up there! I also hope another network picks up this show. NBC has a chance to get back on the charts—why screw it up now! More people have to write and object to this idiotic move by the network, but then again, if another network has the business sense to pick this show up, then “so sorry NBC, you had your chance”! Hope that somebody who can do something about this, reads all these posts.
bring back Harry’ Law, so there is at least one thing worth watching on NBC! intelligent, funny, sophisticated, and well done in every way…
I hope that one of the cable networks picks it up – soon I won’t need to add the local networks to my satellite line up – everything I’ll be watching will be on a cable network. We love this show!
Leno is right…NBC’s reputation is not what it used to be. I’ve NEVER commented on a show before, but enough is enough. Great writing, nothing too off color, had a message every week, funny…what else could one ask for? How about a superb Producer in Kelley (L.A. Law, The Practice, Boston Legal/Practice, Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, etc…and you dump his show? Shame on NBC. No WONDER your stats are as low as they are. NBC’s modus operandi stinks. This epitomizes that sentiment. Whoeverwas running the network in the 80′s and “let” L.A.Law run for a full 8 seasons had the right idea. This show should be picked up by another network…and watch their ratings zoom up.
I am so disappointed that NBC cancelled Harry’s Law. It was a great show and I think that they missed the boat and cant believe that there are such idiot
Bring Harry’s Law back. Show some respect to the people that have supported your shows and advertisers sometime in their life time and pay attention to those of us that liked and enjoyed Harry’s Law. There must have been enough attention …paid to the show being the show received 2 nominations for an Emmy for the CANCELLED show. Wake up folks you will be in this age group one day. I hope you have learnt in your travels to admit when a mistake has been made. Bring HARRY’S LAW BACK
Please find a new home for Harry’s Law during the week. You killed it by putting it on Sunday night ! It is a terrific show. Excellant cast.
How sad to cancel such a GREAT show! Who is in charge at NBC? To cancel one of the best shows on TV,I mean I hardly watch NBC anymore with all their stupid shows. You finally had one show on this network and you kill it off. And might I add the way you treated Ann Curry, I don’t even watch the TODAY show anymore. So sad to see the best network in the past go down the toliet. I hope another network picks up Harry’s Law for the fans sake! Too bad idiots are in charge over there.
If they cancel Harry’s Law then I will no longer watch this channel. I hate it because I am a fan of a lot of its shows. If they think the demographic isn’t young enough then let them sell expensive sports cars or pharmaceutical ads or cruises. I know they won’t miss my one choice in channels but I hope this firing bites them in their asses
If I can’t watch Harry’s Law, I will stop watching the Today show after 30 years of watching it. No wonder it is in second place b/c boneheads are running the network. Where is the common sense? The decision had to be made by a man. Really?
Agree with you I personally will not watch NbC again if they they
if they cancel Harry;s Law and will tell all my friends.
Harry’s Law is a great show. I’m so sick of the reality trash on every channel. At least Harry’s Law was something to look forward too in the evenings. “Let me get this straight, it was the second most watched show on television. What is NBC thinking! Wake up people! It is not “rocket science”! Kathy Bates is fantastic and one of the most accomplished movie stars. NBC should be thankful to have her and the Harry’s Law cast. DON’T CANCEL HARRY’S LAW!!!
Why in the world would you cancel a show that is so successful? You seems to be forgetting that this baby boomer could be like others and we do not care for Reality Shows. I never remember their plots or the names of the people in their shows – because I do not watch them…. Kathy Bates is an actress I will never forget…She has been a treat to watch and I thank her for making me laugh and cry as I’m drawn into the plot of any movie or TV show she stars in. Best wishes as you go on to other endeavors, fans like me will follow your lead.
I totally agree. It was an excellent Series. How could anyone cancel Kathy Bates?!?!
I’m stunned! My favorite show and they’ll probably put a reality show in its place. NBC is going downhill. The Today show has gone to pot and now they toss aside their best show. ABC should pick it up since more people watch it. I refuse to watch NBC anymore so good bye to the Nate Berkus Show.
I agree, can’t believe NBC is cancelling Harry’s Law. Great cast and a pleasure to watch!
Same on NBC!!!
Shame on NBC! Harry’s Law was my favorite show! It had very high ratings and was cancelled? Kathy Bates was outstanding. Besides Castle, there is nothing else that I liked on TV. What a disappointment.
I wonder who the dumb genius was at NBC that cancelled one of the best shows they had. Someone with a brain at NBC should get rid of him.
I want Harrys Law back on, it was a great show, should not have been cut, what a shame, finally something really interesting and good, and off it goes,
Ditto! Harry’s Law is a truly great show with great cast & a great way to address current social issues. Kathy Bates is outstanding. TV needs more shows like this & NBC is off their rocker for canceling it!
Say it isn’t so…..I want to commend NBC for bringing Harry’s Law to the viewers the past two seasons. It has been a very enjoyable show full of fun, drama, excellent acting and a balanced view on social issues. It is rare to find a show these days with these qualities.
The recent report that NBC will not renew for next season is very unfortunate for its many fans. My family and I are very hopeful that another network will pick it up. We will definitely tune in at any time slot.
Bring Back Harry’s Law. I hope some other network picks it up. Like when NBC cancelled Jay Leno…..how stupid!!!!
Can’t believe Harry’s Law has been cancelled. It’s one of the few shows that deals with current topics and really makes you think!!! Hope another network brings it back.
YES, Some Other network PLEASE pick up this thought-provoking, excellent drama!!! …BRiNG BACK HARRY’S LAW !! – from a loyal fan in Decatur, GA
REALLY! We LOVE Harrys Law…renew the show…It has the best writers and the cast is part of a family we are interested in. There is not too many shows who have characters our age who encounter situations we can identify with and face stuggles we understand. Boston legal was another great show we lost. Bring it back!!!!!!!!
I totally agree with this post. Harry’s Law was one of the very few shows on NBC worth watching. I too hope another network will pick it up, and if so, my family will watch it there.
NBC wonders why their overall ratings are low, its because you always cancel the really good shows and put those reality shows on. I don’t watch any of the reality shows, to me they aren’t entertainment.
I HOPE ANOTHER STATION PICKS UP HARRY’S LAW, Its a great program and really well scripted.
I think this is really a mistake to cancel this show. My wife and I really love this show and look forward to watching it every week. We love Kathy Bates as Harry and think she does an excellent job playing the part. Great cast. Really wish you would reconsider and do not cancel this show.
I totally agree. Next to Army Wives was the second best show of the week. The last two episodes were especially gripping. Never watch the reality shows and now will be watching nothing on NBC.
NBC is stupid to cancel Harry’s Law. The show was great and very entertaining. Get rid of some of the stupid comedies and the dumb reality shows. I wouldn’t watch those if they were the last thing on television. You had a good show with Harry’s Law and now you want to toss it. What kind of morons do you have working at NBC?
I am so upset about Harry’s Law being cancelled. Let’s not keep an intelligent, though- provoking show; let’s get some blood shooting out of an artery, more brains and liver lying ona table, torrid sex, or triple murders to keep the audience’s interest. If the gore does not do it, then give us Modern Hymorphidite Housewifes from Huston or Semi Nude Storage Wars of Stanton , or perhaps White Trash Trailor Trash from Tildon, Texas. If the IQ of the average viewer is two points above plant life, then these moronic shows are going to continue. God forbid someone pick up a book or go see a clever drama. Take off the great shows and leave Keeping up with the California Ho-Hos.
I can’t believe the NBC execs could make such a poor decision in cancelling Harry’s Law. It is one of the few shows worth watching. The writing and all the actors led by Kathy Bates had a first class show.I also would love for another network to pick this show up. I am afraid that there isn’t much left to watch these days on NBC. Please reconsider bringing back this show.
I personally am glad the show is cancelled. You see, I began watching the show the first season. My husband and I loved the shw. Thought it had wonderful characters that the writers developed and also had some of the most imaginative and innovative writing I had not seen in a long time. Fell in love with the show. Then came the second season. And, what happened everything changed. We watched the first two show of the second season and we stopped watching after that. We felt duped and used. All the characters we fell in love with wee gone! Felt as if we were used to build up the ratings and once the following was there, my loyalty did not Matt. Seems to me the producers, writers, etc forgot about that initial, groundbreaking following. So I say it again, glad the show was cancelled. MyMoody1
Likewise, my husband and I are dumbfounded that this great show was canceled! Too sophisticated for NBC execs? We don’t watch NBC comedies or reality shows, just news and procedurals.
Sadly, today we empty nesters are the ones who have and spend money!
Kathy Bates shows us life doesn’t stop at 30.. My grandmother always said the first hundred yrs are the hardest.. As Harry Corn you can believe she’ll be fighting every step of the way. The Network wants it’s young blood, wants it’s older demographics watching re runs of great shows on other networks.. They can’t handle the fact that Harry’s Law brings in the older, the younger, the poor and the rich to watch a legal show that doesn’t have the blood and guts that Law and order brought in..this show showed the more truthful side of Law and as was once said in a Movie by another older respected actor YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.. Kathy Bates IS by far one of the BEST AND MOST RESPECTED actresses we have and to cancel her show just shows that NBC has no imagination, no rational Thought process or real justification.. I wish HARRY could stand up in court and argue her right to continue..She’d win and get punitive damages from the NITWITS who run the NBC lineup.. Kathy all I can say in closing is Keep surprising us, making us think, never give up and don’t let the little people with no vision close you down YOU are graceful, eloquent and the inspiration to those nearing your age who don’t have a size 2 figure and a enhanced bra size..You are my nomination for Best actress HANDS DOWN.. in all your movies, shows, and your bio..a class act they can’t replicate..NBC will loose more for letting you go..You will come back to haunt them for this for yrs..NBC is becoming dead in the water..maybe one of the networks with real vision will pick things up.. you have a standing ovation from me always..
I AGREE!!!!! I can’t believe that the show has been cancelled! What a LOSS for television! I hope that all of the actors in this show come back to bite NBC where it counts. Hang in there Kathy Bates! You’re truly wonderful in everything you’ve been in. It was the best show on television as far as I’m concerned. What was NBC thinking?
I couldn’t agree more! I absolutely love Harry’s Law. It’s one of the few shows I tune in to see. Please, we don’t need anymore silly reality programming. Bring Harry’s Law back, are they fools??
I agree, what are they thinking? I will miss Harry’s Law and hope they come to their senses and bring it back. Since when are they not interested in ratings??????????
I totally agree – maybe he classy CBS will pick it up. They are far and away better than NBC anyway! I believe NBC has a monkey with a dart determining their programming
Bring Harry’s Law back….get rid of some of the reality shows! This is the only thing worth watching on Sunday night!
Amen
My husband and I are avid “fans” & are very sad to hear such disturbing news about the cancellation of Harry’s Law”. It has been an outstanding program unlike most of TV “dribble. ” Kathy Bates , we LOVE you! Please don’t go away! We all need more quality entertainment and you gave it in abundance!
Susannah & Lon
This makes no sense. I wonder if Kathy Bates did not want to do it anymore.
I agree. And I’m sick of reality shows too. I can’t believe they would cancel Harry’s Law. We watch it every week and love it. What a shame.
Nooooo!!! Please don’t cancel Harry’s Law!! It was one of our favorite shows!!
I agree with everyones comments. Our family loves Harry’s Law. I hope it is picked up by another network.
I was SHOCKED when I read that the show was the final one for the series not just the season.
Does NBC have so many hits it can throw a good show like this one away – NOT!!!
What did you do – hire the guy that came up with the idea for New Coke? Get with it. Admit you were wrong and make it right before you lose a great cast.
How can we save HARRY’S LAW?
I totally agree!!! This is the ONLY show NBC has worth watching beside Jay Leno. What are they thinking???? Bring it back.
NBC continues to make poor decisions!! I rarely watch this station. I used to watch it from 6am through the evening hours.
I agree with everyone, Harrys Law is a great one and my husband and I looked forward to it every week. Please
Harry’s Law is the only NBC show we watch. How sad that the folks at NBC are cancelling a first rate drama and its 2nd most watched series. Do we really need more reality shows (that aren’t really reality shows at all) and fluff comedy shows with “canned” laughter? Amazing!
The only show my husband. daughter. granddaughter and myself watch together — three generations — the reason — intelligent. funny and interesting. So it is goodbye NBC except for Dateline and weekend evening news with Lester Holt. So sorry your show was cancelled.
I really enjoy this show, WHY was this cancelled? Such smart TV, this is the only NCS show I watch. Please bring it back
My friends and I love this show. I hope another channel picks it up. Look NBC execs (morons) we may not be “the right demographic” but we DO have money to spend. ABC, CBS, Fox and the cable channels get this if you don’t.
They get rid of Harry’s Law and put on some stupid show about walking and talking to dogs. They need to get their act together because NBC is going down the drain.
I want Harry’s Law back too
What was NBC thinking by cancelling Harry’s Law, one of the best shows on NBC. Maybe cable will pick it up. I am boycotting NBC and will not watch NBC until they bring Harry’s Law back. If they don’t then I will never watch NBC. They have the worst shows.
If it’s not a ‘realty show’ with a non-talented, brainless cast- it gets cancelled! NBC is famous for this. The heads of NBC are a bunch of overpaid boneheads who continue to lose viewers season after season due to idiotic moves like cancelling Harry’s Law.
As a 66 year-old who is retired, I find that there is too little to watch on broadcast TV these days, especially on NBC. I’m sure that the demographic of 18-?? is what NBC wants to hit, but some of us retired folks are the ones that CAN buy luxury cars, upscale clothing, and other merchandise that pays for the ads. How many 18-25 year olds can go out and spend money without having to borrow it to pay the rent? Better still, how many of those 18-35 year olds are still (or again) living with their parents? And this is the demographic that NBC (No Brains Company)</strong? want's for its advertisers? I do not know about the rest of you, but from now on, I will not watch NBC for any reason -after all, what GOOD shows does it have anyway? Besides, I have a subscription to Netflix and can watch the good shows and movies whenever I want.
I agree with all you have said. I used to watch NBC almost exclusively, 20 years ago. I was so thrilled to find one show I could watch without being disgusted. I will boycott NBC from now on due to the cancellation of Harry’s Law, my favorite. Thanks for the idea of Netflix.
What is wrong with you people. This was a great show Fablous cast and you slam it. You better re-think your decision or Netflix, Redbox etc. will be getting a lot more business on that day and timeslot!!!
PLEEZE change your mind and bring back Harry’s Law! This show had great stories, an amazing cast & superb writing!! Everytime there’s a show with substance, it gets cancelled. Please, please, please rethink this idiotic decision!!! We LOVE Harry’s Law!!!!
Also, are the ratings numbers affected by most people TiVo’ing shows?? If so, you may need to rethink “THE numbers” because most people TiVo nowadays!! Heck, I TiVo EVERYTHING!!
We Tvo everything also. Hey you NBC morons. What are you thinking? You may want to appeal to a younger demo but remember we Boomers out number the younger age group. So little to watch on TV that’s not created for idiots…Harry’s Law is the best show on Mondays….What else that night. Bacholorette? Are you kidding me?
Get off your moron butts and bring back Harry’s Law!!!
I totally agree. This absolutely is one of the worst decisions that NBC has ever made. A quality show being axed. Ridiculous!
It is no wonder NBC is the lowest rated network when their so-called execs cancel their #2 rated show!! The wife and I loved the show, a terrific cast with great interaction and episodes that are thought-provoking with current relevance. It was extremely refreshing to see a top rated show aimed at an older and wiser audience. Us 50 & 60 yearolds may no longer be the demographic the networks want, but we are the audience watching prime time TV while their ideal demographic, 24-39 year olds, are doing anything except watching TV! We also represent the demographic with the most buying power so it baffles me why the networks ignore us. If NBC doesn’t bring the show back, they will regret it when another network does.
I totally agree!! With the useless reality shows and lame comedy’s ……..yet NBC cancels their second highest rated show. Husband and I looked forward to it each week. They had great stories, current with what’s going on In this country and Kathy Bates? She rocks….
NBC YOUR NUTS FOR CANCELING HARRYS LAW,,,
BRING THIS SHOW BACK. SOME OF US LIKE INTELLIGENT PROGRAMS!!!!!
absolutely agree!! Looked forward to this show every week.Kathy Bates is fantasic. I am sick of all the reality shows and insist on watching something with substance! I will not watch NBC. Makes sense to cancel a show with excellent ratings and devoted viewers??!!!
I agree totally! This is a very good show and to cancel it just shows the people running this network are morons!! Did the show get too political and they couldn’t handle the “heat”. Sad!!
This one show was the only reason we ever watched NBC. The only show worth watching on NBC. Who the heck is running NBC!!
A fantastic show, allowing viewers to actually watch and learn something. No wonder our country is going to hell on a fast track when all we have left are mindless reality shows and disgusting sitcoms – all designated to the younger generation who are already in terrible trouble when it comes to our future. Very, very sad.
Harry’s Law is the best show that I watched and looked so forward to seeing it each week. Very good story lines, and as some of the people said, it made you cry and laugh. Bring Kathy and all the rest of the people back. Please!
Does not make any sense to me. Guess it didn’t have have enough nudity or violence or “reality competition” for the dummies who decide these things. What a shame! But then again, look at their line up, does not surprise me at all.
Bring back Harry’s Law, my husband and I watched that show faithfully every week. They keep the stupid shows on like the voice and others and take the good shows away.
My partner and I watch Harry’s Law religiously. We will miss it alot. Kathy Bates and the supporting cast are tremendous. I hope NBC reconsiders this travesty.
I couldn’t agree more. What is the TV world coming to?????
I could not agree with you more.I hate 95% of everything on TV but this series is compelling and Kathy Bates is superb. I hope “Harry’s Law” will come back but given the awful taste level of this country it probably will not.
Nice job NBC. Let’s see what lame reality show replaces this great show. NBC, you do not deserve David E. Kelley!
I agree David Kelley is one of the best. I am so fed up with the shows that are on I am almost tempted to get rid of my television and do more reading.
I am very disapointed in NBC. Why would you do this? Ireally don’t understand. Books here I come!!!!!
this is crazy, please someone pick up this show,we love Harry’s Law it is a shame it is being cancelled.
Was hoping that it wasn’t really cancelled! I loved Harrys Law Kathie Bates is Amazing in this show!! Bring it back NBC!
Its amazing that NBC would cancel its 2nd most watched show. Are they wanting to lose viewers? Of there whole line up its the only show we watch. I guess they want more reality failures to lower their overall ranking
I am devastated! One of my favorite shows!! Kathy Bates is awesome. I wish we could reverse this decision!!!
I totally agree…with every comment about the cancellation of Harry’s Law. I have been a fan of Kathy Bates for years. I have seen her in everything for Misery to Diabolique to Fried Green Tomatoes. I was so excited to see her appear on a television series. Harry’s Law…lead actress. “Doing the damn thang”. She was excellent, the writing was excellent. Her cast members….complimentary of one another. One great show. The first show in a long time to get me in front of the television each week at the same time. Anticipating the next case. The next defense, the next prosecution, the next victim, the next defendant, the next judge, the next jury, the next client, the next special guest. And, in between it all, all who worked for Harry’s Law practice were mixing it up so good. Working so well off of one another. Making the whole episode exciting to watch. Entertaining and informative. Making you set your timer or recorder in sweet anticipation. Loving all the characters. In the office and coming into the office. I would have liked to join her law firm (lol) And putting Jean Smart as Harry’s nemesis was superb. To hell with all of the reality tv shows. The court shows, the talk shows, the cooking shows, the “everybody wants to be on television” shows. Put Harry back on television. Harry (Kathy Bates) earned her spot. Her right to run the airwaves as long if not longer than lets say, Boston Legal, House, E.R., LA Law. Give the people what they want. Not what someone who is making room for another no-nonsense show thinks is best. WE WANT HARRY!!!
I absolutely LOVE Harry’s Law! I look forward to it each and every week! Pretty soon there will not be anything worthwhile to watch on TV! This news saddens me!
Agree totally. We watch in uk and it is one of the best us imports.First Boston Legal now Harry’s Law.I give up!
Beverley,Sandbach,Cheshire
I love Harry’s Law – how you cancel this show?????
You leave all the garbage on, we will NOT watch them.
This is the one show we make sure we watch. Every episode just ge gets better and better!!
Another sad day for NBC – get someone new in charge of what shows
get cancelled!!
I agree, there are three generations living in our home who all enjoy, each week, Harry’s Law. How can it be cancelled? Guess this new generation can only relate to reality shows!!!
you IDIOTS one of the best shows on T.V. what the heck is wrong with you people hope another station picks them up
I cant believe they cancelled Harrys Law. I love that show. How many more of those lame reality shows must we endure. The reality of it all is they dont know a good show when they see it. VERY dissapointed in NBC.
This is one of the best shows on TV this year, why in the world would they cancel this show?? SOMEONE, Please make NBC bring it back.
It is a great show! What are they thinking! I don’t watch too many shows; but enjoy Harry’s Law. There are too many reality shows!!!!!!
Are the NBC heads crazy or just plain stupid. This is one of the best Tv shows on. David Kelly brings real life and absurd issues to his audience and makes you see both sides. It’s drama, it’s funny and most entertaining. The adults in my family all look forward to the show each week and can’t wait until the next episode.
It’s too bad NBC is making this move. Not a good decision. I’ll tune out NBC in my household in protest for a while. That’s my little way of striking back.So stupid!
NBC just shows it doesn’t understand it’s viewers AGAIN. WHY is it that I don’t watch much ABC, NBC, CBS shows? Because CW, FOX, TNT and USA actually pay attention more to what people actually want to watch…The BIG THREE are now the smaller of the viewing demographics
because they have lost touch with what people actually watch or care about.. there will come a day when our children & grandchildren don’t know those networks and it’s quickly coming. I don’t want to watch stupid people back stab on an island, or dance the cha-cha, or peek into bedrooms while they figure out who is the spy on the show.. so what do the networks offer? Nothing anymore..Books, and my computer have replaced my TV because of NETWORK stupidity. MS Bates YOU are an acclaimed actress who can do any role, your list of accomplishments I don’t have room for here, but thank you for being Harry Corn in our home You Will Be Missed ! As for NBC they better buy knee pads for when they have to grovel to get you back in ANY format if they want to show one of your movies make em kiss your feet for the right. Thanks for being a class act
. So many bad shows out there , and yet they choose to cancell Harry’s Law? Our household runs the ages of 22 to 92 and we all love the show. I don’t get it!!!!!!!!!! Good plots, great acting, deals with current legal issues that are serious, and yet it also allows you to laugh!
I agree, what could they be thinking or maybe that’s the problem their not!!!!!!! They cancel Harry and keep Whitney, NBC you need some big time help. Something is really wrong if thoughtful entertaining shows get cancelled but stupid 20 something year olds running around the world making idiots out of themselves are the the shows we keep? Who cares about the B in Apt. whatever, or any of the other lousy stupid sitcom’s that have to use laugh tracks on because they are not funny. Then we have the losers who keep returning to big relationship and survival shows. Is there a reason they keep using the same dumb people? Their flaunt their stupidity and let the world see them at their worse. While people at home are watching them be embarassed or rejected on TV! Don’t they know how the majority of people see them? Why do so many enjoy seeing the ugly side of people? Is this GREAT TV? Now I have good reason to never watch NBC again, smooth move guys.
Hopefully another network will pick this one up. Hard to figure a popular show with 5 star rating from viewers would be cancelled. If you cancel your number 2 show, what does that say about management?
Seriously?? The powers that be at NBC are so stupid!!! I hope another network sees all the posts and picks it up! NBC needs to cancel the management!!!
I thoroghly enjoy Harry’s Law. I can’t wait to watch it every week. I give up another show to watch ths one.
If is so popular, why is it being cancelled?
I love Harry’s Law. The story lines are great.
Please bring it back.
I can’t believe they would cancel this show! Kathy Bates is fantastic for the part and the shows were newsworthy and update. They were personal and spanned every age, race, wealth bracket, and profession. It’s not fair and there has to be a way we can get it back!!!
Can’t believe this – never missed it wherever it was!
I think they are discriminating against those of us over 49,and who are not sold on all these stupid reality show. I love Harry’s law bring it back. Can they not learn from CBS, butt load of drama shows all number 1. You think there’s a recipe there!!!! You got rid of law and order I guess next season SUV will be gone.
I can’t believe NBC can be so cruel! I too hope what ever you are planning to put in its place FLOPS! NBC has been becoming a sports station and interups all that they do have scheduled. I love Kathy Bates and hope she gives you a hard time in her consideration if she wants to return!
NBC seems to have a problem recognizing a quality show and unfortunately Harry’s Law is a quality show, what a shame to have it cancelled for more reality shows or not so funny comedies. This will give me one less network to watch.
Here we go again. Cancelling something that’s worthwhile watching. I agree with the comments already listed. Bring this back. From the “older generation” which apparently was why is was cancelled. Forget reality and comedy shows.
Dear (stupid group of people that decided to cancel Harry’s Law) I am from the demographic that watched the show…..and I still have plenty of money to spend…..so go after the younger demographic and hope our generation will leave them some money! Welcome Dish TV with no commercials !,,
To cancel Harrys Law because the audience is too old. Well I got news for all the young people who made this decision. I got the money and the now that I won’t see this show I won’t see the ads so I guess they don’t want my money and if any of my grandchildren come to me for the all mighty buck I’ll make sure it isn’t for anything advertised on the too young NBC group. A smart show cancelled by the bubble heads again
I am truly sad about this. It is perhaps the only show I look forward to all week and I cannot believe that they would even consider cancelling one of their only successful shows. Mourning the loss of Harry and friends…=-(
We are terribly disappointed in NBC’s decision to pull “Harry’s Law.” It’s difficult to understand.
The ratings are good; the audience is loyal. Viewers are thinkers and opinion molders. NBC should be ashamed of itself for contributing to the cultural decline of the country.
You hit the nail right on the head by saying ‘contributing to the cultural decline of the country’. I can’t remember who said this originally, but it is very applicable.
‘You will never lose by betting on the poor taste of the American public.’
Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
Judy Coleman
Harry’s Law was THE best show on TV. Cannot believe it’s being cancelled. Yes, my husband and I are in the “older” category but we watch a lot of TV so why don’t we count?? If you watched the finale episode, you have to admit, it was THE best show EVER.
NBC… are you fools listening? What the H… is wrong with you? We are your bread and butter here and you have just pulled the rug from under us when you canceled the best show ever ” Harry’s Law.” When another network grabs the show you’ll see how right we all were.
I LOVED this show…..great cast and content.
WHY? WHY? WHY would NBC do that!!!!
I agree with those who are disappointed and angry. Just as we get used to and expect a show that has a talented cast, good writing, and isn’t an insult to us an humans, it is pulled. Let me guess — some other program that shows families falling apart and airing their dirty laundry on the air will replace Harry’s Law. Disgusting.
It’s sad whatever I like gets cancled. It’s got to be about money, whatever the case NBC is stupid for canceling it, what good series will get canned next.
What is NBC thinking by cancelling Harry’s Law? How can they disregard the public’s desire to see a program that could almost be the real deal. No. Let’s watch junk like “reality shows.”
This is just another example of how our society rewards mediocracy in subject matter. Harry’s Law actually addresses issues that most people are disenclined to discuss for fear of seeming un-cool. NBC = No Brains Company.
We cannot believe Harry’s Law is cancelled! It was bad enough when they moved the show to a different night – now it’s gone! Considering all the (stupid) reality shows on tv, this was one of the best drama/comedy shows. I hope the execs a CBS will reconsider OR a cable channel will pick it up for broadcast (not reruns).
Just HAD to respond to the cancelling of Harry’s Law! It is one of the best shows that we watch faithfully & that took some doing after the network kept switching day & times around!!! I,too, hope CBS takes it on!!! They have the shows that we watch the most!!!!!
Cancelled??????? Unbeleivable!!!!! NBC=Nothing But Crackpipes!!!
I cannot imagine the thinking behind the cancellation
of this show…what in the world are you thinking, NBC,
I think the actors and writers are top notch.
Please rethink the cancellation.
I too am saddened by the cancellation of this show. I just don’t understand it. David E. Kelley is a genius as far as I am concerned. I love all the actors in the show and looked forward to it every week. It makes no sense to me, so what that the demographics were mostly from people over 60? Are you kidding me??? Geez, thats pathetic they base that over everybody of any age that watched it. I am so over stupid sining/dancing shows and reality shows, this country seems to thrive on violence on TV and the idiots that live here with the reality shows, its sickening. So now they take away one of the best shows I have seen in a very, very long time. NBC, you suck!
well amen, who cancels a show with big numbers, now what are our choices to watch, i really can only look at so many 30 something programs without feeling my life is over at 55. dumb, so very dumb, lets hope a different network sees an opening to scoop it up and keep it taping.
TNT picked up Southland, another cancelled NBC project. Hopefully one of the cable networks will give Harry’s Law new life. It’s a shame how much “ism’s” (racism, sexism, ageism, etc.) influence so much of our societal life.
I heard another of my faves, “Unforgettable” is moving to another network. Why doesn’t another network get smart and take HARRY’S LAW??? Love that show. The older demographic spends plenty of $, travel, insurance, health, cars, prescriptions, hemorrhoid ointment…
Why did I Google “Harry’s Law”? Because I watched the show last night; and realized has sad this show really is (or should I say “was”). Every week this show was an insult to the 40% (give or take) of conservatives in this country or an insult to the 40% (give or take) of the liberals in this country. When 40% of a potential audience abandons the show … well the rest is history. Kathy Bates is an excellent actress. Without her this show would not have had a second season! Should NBC ever ‘grow up” perhaps so will it ratings!
Harry’s Law is a great show. There has not been an episode that I did not like. So tired of seeing so many reality shows which I do not watch. Hope another network picks up Harry”s Law.
Absolutely agree – awesome show – what is wrong with the tv exec’s
we are not stupid people we do enjoy quality TV. Harry’s Law needs to return
we both agree this is one of the best written, most well acted, realistic, evocative show.SHAME ON NBC
This really sucks, I would imagine it is because of a different political view expressed on the show vs. what the NBC or most likely nbc in little letters because of their attitude here. It is a great, entertaining show and NBC / nbc should be ashames of themselves, 8.8 million viewers cannot be wrong, so, who is? Go figure.
NBC, keep supporting your political choice, I will exercise my views by tuning you out! Talk about insanity and arogance!
The loss of a show with this quality hurts me, my family, and society in general.
I could not believe it when I heard it. I enjoy watching the show and even got my husband started on it. I cannot believe The Voice and Smash out rank this show. I have never seen Smash (nor will I ever) and didn’t watch The Voice this year b/c of the attitude Chritina has with the other hosts. If NBC continues to cancel all of the good shows like this then people will stop watching this station all together.
I watch just 2 shows on NBC – Celebrity Apprentice and Harry’s Law. Harry’s Law has been my favorite show for the last 2 seasons. I was a huge Law & Order fan (original) and love Harry’s Law just as much.
STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!
How could you, NBC, take one of the most watched and intelligent shows and CANCEL IT?!? Come on audience, let’s do something!
NBC must be run by morons! One of the best shows on TV. The cast had great chemistry. Did NBC even give a reason? I hope another network pick sit up. Hey, NBC you really screwed up.
Why is Harry’s Law being cancelled?
I cannot believe NBC would cancel “Harry’s Law”. This show is the only show I watch on NBC. I am not sure I understand why you would cancel your 2nd most watched show. Kathy Bates as well as the rest of the cast are all talented. I was looking forward to watching the next season.
You are crazy for cancelling the best written and best acted show on Tv. You have lost another viewed and I won’t record Nbc either.
so they do not understand most watched …what is up?? does NBC plan kill themselves…dumb… really is anyone there had a course in marketing????
I for one will be boycotting NBC. Shame on them for taking away a wonderful show and expecting us to except this with no consequences. What do we need to do to make sure the shows we like will stay on when they are watched by millions? I say get rid of “REALITY” and move on. Shame on them for showing such garbage.
Cancel Harry’s Law? You have Kathy Bates? Actor’s that came from Fox in 2nd season joined them? The story lines and actors wonderful! You now are above cbs! With Parenthood,Awake and the Firm! All fabulous programs! I might be 61,however TV is what I use to escape from life? Reality, makes me sad and fake to look at?
why cancel harry’s law. finally a law show that has the guts to attack the current events and questions we all have asked!
the show was just coming into its own . kathy is the driving force that all of us can relate to. she represents america, we are all harry korn. with all the termoil in employment today harry represents the idea that we all ca restart our career’s in this day and age.
there is more to this series than just a law show. it is the hope of all of us that are looking to start our second act in ,life.
loved harry,s law so sad
with H.L. being cancelled I can now remove nbc from my channel guide ne more station I won’t be watching. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Harry’s Law” is the ONLY television show I watch on NBC. I guess they decided the demographic was too old. Stupid move, NBC…it’s the “old” folks that have the money. So, I will say “so long, NBC” and not watch any television shows on the network now.
What a shame to cancel such an excellent series with heart and class. I looked forward to the moral sustenance it conveyed to all as well as thought provoking issues that all generations should question. So NBC, are you leaning towards Reality shows? Just what we need, another mindless, stupid hour that viewers can waste their lives watching.
I’m 80, I’m “SAG”, and I’m not pleased. No reason left to tune-in to NBC.
Harry’s law was a good show. It was probably the only one I watched on NBC. I liked it, and my dad did, too. Maybe someone on usa or will pick it up. There are some good “characters” in the show and it would fit with the network.
Bring back Harry’s Law. Stop the reality madness!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the ONLY show I watch on NBC because their choice of shows is horrible so once again I will not be watching NBC at all.. I really hope this network goes off the air.. One good show and they cancel it.. who is running this network??
The show used today’s legal and social issues to build its story line. The networks have turned to “dumbed-down” formats that make Netflix our best chance at some mature entertainment. NBC will regret such decisions. If they don’t care about an audience “mix”, they will get their wish. Only 18-49 viewers.
Just found out this great show will not be renewed for a 3rd season. A show that never failed to deliver a clever storyline by a talented cast. I did prefer the ist season but 2nd season grew on me. Will miss this show. Any chance that it may be picked up by another network?
Loved this series and love Kathy Bates. Hope this series is picked up by another network!!!!!!!!!!
This announcement from NBC sucks. Harry’s Law is my favorite show on TV (including all Networks). We have been constant veiwers of NBC for year as we are retired. Usually watch as much as 10 to 12 hours each day. We have decided not to watch NBC anymore !!!! We will miss your network shows but believe you obviously do not care about what we think !! I surely hope some other Network has the brilliance of mind to pick up Harry’s Law.
It deifes logic. Their only reason for cancelling is that the younger demographic (18-49) was “soft”. So…what then appeals to this demographic? American Idol, America’s Got Talent, or some other mindless reality show (which are far from reality)?
Harry’s Law was smart and well written. Our whole family enjoyed it and that includes a 16, 20, 49, and 57 year old! I’d say that’s across the demographic board.
I think that canceling this show is a mistake. NBC’s decision makers don’t really know what they’re doing. I don’t agree with any demographic analysis that concludes that a show of this caliber should be ended. There are plenty of twenty and thirty year olds that would love to watch a show like this. I’m in my thirties, and I loved this show. It’s a well written, well executed show, with developed character’s and story lines, and it sheds light on many important social issues. It sure beats the mindless dribble on many shows that last for numerous seasons. Also, it’s very apparanet that the show was poorly marketed; it was not on Itunes, not on Hulu, and you couldn’t buy DVDs for the first season.
This is awful. I watch very little TV shows but this is one I do not miss. NBC needs to be boycotted adn will be by me and anyone else I can talk to do it.
Whoever made this IDIOT decision should be FIRED!!!! Let’s talk stupid! I thought networks wanted viewers? Well they lost me and it appears a lot of others. BOOOO NBC
Good actors, great writing, hot women, very interesting, one of my newest favorite shows that I talked others into watching. NBC has a way if self destructing. I will miss this show – they will probably replace it with moral and GENDER challenging disgusting show. that’s all we need is more “OUT OF THE CLOSET” CRAP!!!!!
I am very disappointed. One of few programs I watched. Bates is a real person. Guess network doesn’t desire appeal to real people. Harry’s law has heart and smarts.
Hard to understand, there has to be network politics involved. This goes to show the lack of leadership not only at NBC but but ABC and CBS. USA is besting them with shows like “Burn Notice” and “Royal Pains” and now TNT has brought back “Dallas”.
Hey, USA, TNT, here’s your opportunity to scoop up a sure winner.
I can’t believe NBC pulled the series because it didn’t appeal to the younger audience. No offense, but there are enough younger audience shows out there to watch and not enough shows like “Harry’s Law”.
Cancelling Harry’s Law just shows why CBS rules in the ratings. As an avid fan of the show, I guess there is nothing else worth watching on NBC. NBC used to rule, but just show how they fail. I regret that my demo moved past the 20-40 age group, but that doesn’t change the shows I care to watch. Perhaps another network will pick it up and we will all be fortunate enough to watch quality programming.
Crazy how they pick what to take off. Harry’s Law was a great
show. I they were smart they would think again and bring it back. It was one of our favorite shows and something to talk and laugh about with our friends.
Can’t believe they took off Harry’s Law. It was one of the few shows on NBC that was worth watching. Hope another station picks up Harry’s Law. The ratings for NBC are going down the toilet. Can’t they see why. The take the good shows off. NBC need someone new to pick the shows to stay.
I usually don’t comment on things like this, but Harry’s Law was well written and a choice I had instead of the reality shows and comedies which are not funny, except for a few like The Big Bang Theory.
Why???
You take an award winning actress and combine it with a great crew and get a teriffic series, “second most watched” no less and what do the fools at NBC do…trash it. No wonder shows like the Good Wife are on other networks.
I LOVED this show; unfortunately the Sunday time slot was one that I rarely got to view it. Kathy Bates is amazing, and McRaney is nothing to sneeze at either. THe plots were informative and well thought out, plus just enough humor. If they don’t renew, another network better pick it up!
Please bring back Harry’s Law! It is a great show and Kathy Bates is a wonderful actress, I have enjoy this lady for a long time. I am so sick of all these reality shows being put on TV, I do not watch them.
Both my husband and I love this show! Please do not cancel. Kathy Bates is a natural and perfect for the part. The rest of the crew great as well…What is wrong with NBC??? Get rid of some of the reality shows that have absolutely no worth to society and our youth.
So a major network finally puts a program that has insights into the relevant human condition as we find it today, comedic relief that does not hit you in the face and is offensive,quick-witted and easy on the eyes cast weekly on the television, gasp, and they cancel it? I hadn’t TiVo’d a program in a long time… this one was it. My 23 yr-old twins, 33 yr-old son, 38 yr-old daughter, 87 yr-old dad-in-law, husband and I all waited for each new episode and would discuss it weekly…. NBC,,, maybe we could put something else on where people just shoot each other… that would be oh so appropriate this week, eh? Television sickens me.
This is what good television looks like, obviously it doesn’t matter to NBC. Too bad, we even stayed with you for the news…
first law and order and now Harrys law come on nbc this was a
great show! i really enjoyed it and many of my friends i was able to get them to watch and they agreed. Its sad cause there is not one show coming up for the fall that interest me at all……
How could you do this? Cancel a top show. Yes, they are correct, NBC only has a few decent shows to be watched. We were just talking about that the other day. This was one of the best shows on television. Please someone, (another network) pick up this show.
I agree with you. How can it be one of the most watched shows and get cancelled? It just doesn’t make any sense. I think they just wanted to put on one of these new, stupid, mindless shows for the teens and the 20 something people.
Wow. I just heard about HL being canceled. Kathy Bates was a natural. Great actress. No effort. I loved the time she must have been suffering with a bad cold but the writers wrote it into that episode and she took the stage.
Great storylines, great new young cast.
Who made this decision?
I agree for once we get a show that doesn’t show all the gruesome acts of murder, rape, robbery, etc all we see is the lawyers side and wham they do away with it. I loved that show and never missed one week of it and it gets 8.8 viewers????What is up with that? NBC watch out hope this bites you BIG TIME, gonna switch to CBS now!!!
They kill Harry’s Law, they kill Political Animals, they kill Brothers and Sisters. maybe channel owners don’t like strong good women as leads; Kathy Bates, Sally Field and Sigourney Weaver. It’s decisions like these that result in my turning on my tv less and less. I’d rather read a good book.
I agree, I hope it comes back to bite them. Are they nuts? The demo they are dismissing are also known as baby boomers, the largest, most active, wealthiest demo out there. Hey, NBC execs get your heads out of your cellphones! (Us boomers can be polite too.)
I agree with everyone harry’s law was my favorite show I was just asking my husband wondered what happened to harry’s law. Then I picked up a peoples magazine and learned that kathy bates has cancer again but she has had surgery and is ready to come back o work she will be at the emmy’s on sept 23 she is nominated for two awards. Please bring her back. She is great. Someone plz pick up the show.
What a stupid decision to cancel Harry’s Law. I’m so tired of TV playing to younger audiences. To much reality TV. Harry’s Law was a superior show. Bring it back and fire the idiot that cancelled it!!!!
Ditto to all of the comments below!! Is NBC crazy!! I looked forward to that show every week. Maybe CBS or ABC can pick it up, and they can collect the Emmys next year.
I really liked Harry’s Law. On of the few NBC shows I watch. Not much on this season that I will watch.
Yes, Harry’s Law was a terrific show. My husband and I watched the show every week. Now, my husband watches only News, Sport and History channels, but he took the time to watch the series with me.
I’ve always said that we don’t have to have a college degree to use our brain. Again and again I’ve seen people that supposed to be the boss making the most terrible decisions and we the peons, the ones that do not have the College Diploma, have more brains than the Boss, CEO and all those Politicians.
Please, be smart and care a little bit about us, the ones that makes you more popular. English is my second language.
I totally agree! I thought Harry’s Law was thought provoking, topical, entertaining and always had good story line twists. Also, the cast was diverse and strong. It’s very disappointing to see a quality show like this get cancelled, while the “same old” garbage reality shows keep popping up!
Harry’s Law was awesome. Why would you kill a number2 show? If I’m not mistaken Kathy bates won an Emmy. I hope another network will pickup this show. I will not watch NBC. Dumb network
Googled Harry’s Law to see when it would be on. Can’t believe what my search revealed. Compelling issues, superb acting, humor and wit- obviously not an appealing mix for the NO BRAIN COMPANY execs. who pulled the plug. Money to spend on advertiser’s products, time to watch, intellects desirous of challenge- clearly not a demographic worth catering to. No wonder NBC loses market share. Hope the execs are ready for early retirement. Soon they will have no job to go to. Disgruntled viewers will pull their plug.
What a shame, My whole famaliy has been waiting and wondering why Harry’ s law had not restarted. One more reason to change the channel.
I’ve been waiting forever it seems for harrys law to come back on.My husband said maybe it was coming on the second half of season. Decided to check today and only to find out it was cancelled. I’m heartbroken. I loved that show. They leave some of the stupid shows on and this this—–WHY
Star Trek, Firefly, now Harry’s Law. CANCELED By idiots. My family loved this show. Kathy Bates was awesome. One of the finest actors in TV or Film. I don’t know why the boneheads at the network ever get it. Reality show after Reality show. I am so tired of those things. Harry’s Law was entertaining. It had a great cast and I always looked forward to watching it. All the great shows always get canceled. How can incompetent people make so much money making dumb decisions?
Great show…bad call canceling it.
another stupid NBC decision and another reason I don’t watch this station anymore
Bring back Harry’s Law. Let us enjoy television once again. Let us celebrate Kathy Bates and her supporting cast. I have enjoyed and been entertained by the writings and productions of David Kelly for years. Hey David…Harry was another winner. Please get her (Harry) back on the air
I still prefer the original concept of the show that was season one. I never warmed up to the revamp that was the 2nd season.
Still, I had hoped NBC would renew this.
Agreed. Season 1 was good, but when they ditched Britany Snow and got into a “who can be more preachy” contest with The Good Wife, I lost interest.
NBC used to have a slogan, The quality shows. Now they make sure that any quality show they might stumble on to gets hosed. Smart writing, fine acting and an audience. Can’t wait for all the boring/lame single camera comedies they put on that pull 4 million people.
I liked Season 1 of Harry’s Law more, too but Season 2 was getting there. I sure never thought they would cancel it… This is real sad. Hopefully, it will go the route of Southland and get picked up by a cable network. Either way, Kathy Bates is “THE BEST”!
When they make their decisions to cancel and I assume they do it based on ratings of who is watching their show, do they have the ability to check who dvr’s the show? I haven’t missed an episode of this show but I haven’t ever watched it during it’s actual broadcast.. I DVR it and the watch it when I can.
Yes, DVR numbers are counted, and discounted, because only 40% of DVR viewing includes ads (if that number is even still accurate, could be lower now). Advertisers will not pay for skipped ads. Why should they? If you skip ads, your viewing counts for squat.
Also, they only care about ratings w/n three days of original airing because ads are keyed to certain time periods, such as Thurs movie ads before the weekend.
If you’re not a Nielsen subscriber, then it doesn’t matter.
If you are Nielsen subscriber, you have to watch the DVR’d show the same day or its meaningless to the network.
How many people here have ever been a Nielsen subscriber/watcher/family or whatever they call them? I’m in the biz and I know no one, including myself, who has ever been a part of the Nielsen ratings. Besides, and I’m sorry to say this, younger people are no longer as valid a demographic as they were because they are the bulk of the unemployed or under-employed in this country.
Andrea, that’s not quite right. The ad rates are actually based on viewing of commercials within THREE days of the show’s initial broadcast, not same-day viewing only. So if you tape and watch a show’s commercials three days after it airs, it gets counted (as long as you’re a Nielsen household). If you tape and watch the ads four days after the original broadcast, it’s not counted. If you tape and don’t watch the ads at all, it’s not counted.
Gemini,
You’re correct.
Have the networks not figgured out that Neilson ratings mean crap? Neilson ratings are what canceled the Original Star Trek, and 50 years later it has 5 series and 10 movies.
Well they better have something amazing coming down the pipe.
Sounds about right. Can’t have talent or ratings on NBC.
As the rest of the networks cancellations and renewals attest to.
This cancellation is very sad for me. I really enjoyed Harry’s Law and I just love Kathy Bates. Yes, the changes in season 2 were a little hard at first, but the show found it’s groove fast. NBC did not make a good decision here.
Amen, Justin. We’re very sad to see this wonderful show ending, too. Such great stories, and all those good actors…how can they do it?!! Maybe it could get picked up by another network. “Southland”, which started out on NBC, but was cancelled after a year, was picked up by TNT and has been successful. Maybe that can happen with “Harry’s Law”. One can only hope…
Once again the network cancels a program that was interesting and did not insult your intelligence. you get to know the characters and NBC pulls it off the air. oh well, maybe another network will air Harry’s Law.
I agree with Justin! Just when you finally find something on tv that is NOT a reality show that you actually enjoy, it’s taken off air!
This will have an impact on our Time-Warner account. We were just thinking about why we have cable when we can get entertainment through so many other venues along with so many things that are NOT ‘reality’ garbage and talent du jour. Harry’s Law was topical and well written and directed. NBC is returning to when it stood for Nothing But Crap.
This is one of the best written shows on television. I certainly hope that the NBC executives will reverse this decision. The show deals with timely issues in a thorough and sensitive manner. The acting is wonderful! Regarding the demographic, I saw that the Bureau of Labor Statistics said people aged 45 to 54 and 55 to 64 had the highest weekly income of any age group on the United States, $844 and $860, respectively. Those ages 20 to 24 had a weekly income of $454. Disposable income means advertising targets. That should mean something to NBC executives if they understand business at all.
I liked season one, but I hate how drastically they changed the chemistry of the show in season two.
I’m no fan of this show – have never watched, but it seems absolutely crazy that a show that draws viewers is axed. I do understand the target groups that are more important to advertisers but why not put this on a Friday or Saturday night? TNT would be wise to pick this up.
Targeted demo doesn’t watch TV on Friday or Saturday nights.
TNT also cares about the demo.
I would watch Harry’s Law anytime if TNT picked it up. I am a big fan of this show. Please leave it be or put a bug in TNT to pick this good show up. Next they will tell me my other favorite show “The Good Wife” will be cancelled, I hope not!!!
TOTALLY bummed on this one but yup, goes to show that only one number matters in this.
For a network that’s hurting as much as NBC you would think they would take anything they could get.
I understand the show is not a critics favourite. But like every Kelley show it’s actually watched. I guess this is the cost for saving Up All Night, and Whitney. Is there something wrong with David E, because i never understood either why Boston Legal and Picket Fences only got 4 seasons. Even Ally’s 5 season stint should have lasted longer.
Kelley shows seem to work best in short runs, they’re generally very good but tend to lose a bit of steam as they progress. Boston Legal is still my favorite and even at only 5 seasons felt a little long in the tooth by the time it ended. The way The Practice (which lasted 8 seasons) sort of spun off Boston Legal was smart.
Keep Harry and all of the cast. It’s the best show NBC has now. Some of the new sitcoms suck. Harry is refreshing, deals with current issues, makes you think and want more. C’mon think right and think straight NBC!!!
Television has gone to the dogs as far as good entertainment is concerned and when a really good show, i.e. Harry’s Law comes on it get cancelled after 2 seasons. All I can say is that the Programing Direction onNBC is just now rowing with bow oars. Keep Harry’s Law if you want to keep viewers.
The Ratings never lie!
Over 50+ million spent on Smash for marketing. Nice job Bobby G. You are not very good at this network chairman job.
And… “Smash” STILL stinks.
NBC is run by dolts. They deserve to be in the dumper. One of the few shows they run that actually had an audience. What a concept.
So, is NBC in fifth place yet? I know Univision has been kicking their ass on some nights.
They fully deserve it after this move. As a matter of fact, here’s hoping the reruns and a few originals on USA (which they own) kick their ass, too.
“Hey, all you advertisers, we just cancelled a series that reliably pulls in over 8 million a week – give us your money!”
If it’s 8 million grannies, the advertisers don’t care. They want the 18-49 demo.
I continually hear that 20somethings watch far less network television than previous generations. If this is true, at what point will networks focus on demos that actually watch network television?
…and, with the fundamental changes going on with the economy of the U.S. (which are likely to be the new norm rather than a bump in the road), that coveted demographic is not going to have the money to spend on all of those goods.
It’s not a question of total watchers, it’s a question of the demo. Yes, older people watch tv ALL THE TIME; it’s the younger, more elusive eyes the networks are trying to woo, as advertisers will pay a premium for those elusive eyes.
they can woo away. That viewer isn’t interested . and they don’t have the financial clout to benefit the advertisers either
That’s one of the reasons that the 18-49 demo is so desirable, because they don’t watch any where near as much TV as the 50+ demo do.
Where does the idea come from that “grannies” don’t spend? As a grannie myself, my income and purchasing power far outrun many of those in the so-called “coveted” demographics.
@Nomad, no one has said that older viewers don’t buy products. The main issues are they tend to be much more set in their buying habits than younger consumers are (thus harder to influence with ads), they tend to have less disposable income (think of all the seniors just squeaking by on Social Security income), and they tend to watch a lot more TV than younger people do (therefore being much easier to reach with ads). Not all of this is true of every older person, but in general it is accurate.
Gemini,
Have you noticed that Betty White is all the rage right now? FYI she is 90 yrs. old and still going strong. Come on all you silver and sixties let’s show these curmudgeons at NBC and get TNT or USA to broadcast Harry’s Law!
I WILL NOT ACCEPT REALITY TV.
Advertisers believe the over 50 age group is set in their purchasing ways, and won’t try new products. That’s why they go after the younger, more elusive demo.
But they younger viewers watch much less TV if any. The twenty somethings in my office don’t watch TV , they are out or they watch cable. They don’t watch 2-4-and 7. and the way its getting nobody should
Yeah. The group without the big bucks is winning out? Get Real. Whereas the grey folk DO HAVE & DO SPEND. Go figure.
Someone should pick it up ! NBC just lost another viewer since that is the only show I watch on their network. NBC is crazy for canceling it.
I’ll still watch Parenthood, because I still think it has an amazing cast, but that’s probably it for NBC. They killed Harry’s Law and Awake. 30 Rock and the Office have outlived their welcome and the quality has gone way down and SVU is doing stunt casting (Martha Stewart?) to boost its sagging ratings.
Awake is the only other NBC show I watch besides Harry’s Law. See my post above re: the income and spending habits of many “grannies.” I guess I’ll have to abandon the networks altogether and stick with premium cable.
What! AWAKE’s still on? Guess they’ll do away with THAT show next week.
I agree with you. The ONLY show I watch on NBC is Harry’s Law. This is a BAD move for the network. Hope another network picks up the show. It is one of the very few shows worth watching.
I agree. This is the only show I watch on NBC–it is a great show. I guess NBC really doesn’t care about its viewers. CBS, here I come.
Anybody want to start a campaign? This is really ridiculous. Maybe TNT can pick it up since they are both warner bros shows? I can’t believe that the total viewers — which was 8-10 million doesn’t mean anything to a network in last place — it didn’t have the right viewers — does the over 50 crowd know they are being counted out when it comes to programming? given that nbc has renewed so many of it’s low rated comedies, it seems absolutely crazy that harry’s law would not be part of NBC.
The over 50 crowd has ALWAYS been counted out when it comes to advertisers, but that thinking may need some reexamining in the years to come as that generation may be the last with decent disposable income in this country. The economy has gone through a basic change and the younger generation is going to have a much harder time having the money for the luxury stuff.
Yes I think another station (cable) should pick it up!
NBC canceled every show I watched on their stupid network, except ‘Smash’ and ‘Grimm.’ I won’t be adding any of their new shows to my roster next season. Why put in the time? NBC is dead to me.
It stars a woman well into middle age.
It’s because Bob Greenblat has his own biases.
This show would do great on TNT or Lifetime.
Kathy Bates is one of our greatest living actresses.
It’s a cruel world in TV if you’re not anorexic with long hair and under the age of 40.
Another station should nip in and take this show whoever it runs with iytr wil sure to be a hit.
They keep Fashion Star?!? What’s going on under the Greenblatt regime?
NBC wants to become a cable network.
Cable? Really? All they’ve done is check off the boxes: lawyers, cops, firemen, doctors. God willing they were cable-like. Better than just plain old boring.
NBC become a cable network? THEY’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH to be a Cable Network.
Well, at least Kathy Bates has a guest starring gig playing Charlie, on 2.5 men.
…and wasn’t she a HOOT1111
Sorry for the type. She was a HOOT!!!!!!
Wasn’t so sure about the new format in season 2 but was loving the fact that they added the divine Mark Valley this season- and I don’t understand why over 50′s are undesirables to advertisers. I buy a TON of stuff. Well, nutz to you, NBC! Anybody who’d cancel a show with over 8 million viewers obviously hasn’t a clue what they are doing. It shows.
I normally watch CBS but wouldn’t miss Harry’s Law. It is a great show and I will miss it and I guess I won’t be watching NBC at all.
With all the crap on TV these idiots cancel Harry’s Law? And believe me, NBC’s got lots of dumb-ass junk on. IDIOTS! And I’m being polite.
I second those comments! This is one of the best shows on TV!!!! I hope another network will pick it up. Katy Bates is amazing as well as the rest of the cast. NBC is making a huge mistake. Their isn’t anything esle worth watching on this network.
I can’t believe the stupidity of NBC. You’re actually canceling a series that is one of your few good shows. Perhaps you’ll put in another dumb reality series or comedy — if that’s what you call funny. What is going on with the people in charge?
I think it is a darn shame that a show with SUBSTANCE and good acting is taken off the air.
Again Americans are being deprived of an intellectual show.
I agree!!! There is so much crap on TV. Harry’s Law had it all, especially a GREAT cast. This is very sad.
It’s smart? It’s funny? It’s well-written? Engaging? Good characters? Let’s go ahead and cancel it. Wouldn’t want to deviate from our normal LAME pattern of poor decision making skills.
NBC sucks.
Yes it does.
Just another example of how far out of touch the Hollywood elite are with the moderate to conservative viewership of this country. They pander to the younger viewers with reality shows and plots aimed at a fourteen year old child. Harry’s Law dealt with mature subject through sarcasim and intelligence. Another well written show that actually made you think and feel. I am going to miss the show! What a sad commentary and reflection of our society today. Today we want everything handed to us and someone else to do our thinking for us.
Why cancel such a highly rated show that so many enjoyed. They are so many shows that do not hold a candle to this one. I suggest the decision be reversed and Harry’s Law renewed. Let’s all voice our opposition and once again enjoy one of the few better shows on TV. Disappointed in Va.
I totally agree with all of the posts – which I just read. I did not realize it had not been renewed until Cathy Bates was in the news for her medical issues. I have been watching different stations – and actually totally less television overall. It’s obvious NBC thinks we are all idiots – when it is they who are.
