oh no! Revolution does NOT look as good as I hoped AND heard
Please please please just let this be a crappy trailer and not another Terra Nova disappointment.
Billy Burke as a ninja-like swordsman?? Are you kidding me??
OMG I can’t believe it. Well, yes I can. “Cause we’re family.”
How long until viewers of Revolution start thinking – “Uh, ever heard of windmill power? Has the wind disappeared too? Does everyone have amnesia and forgotten how to generate electricity?” What a stupid premise.
There are flames burning in the background. I also saw water. Steam power anyone? This is an entirely implausible premise which doesn’t bode well.
Steam power is way too inefficient to power what we need for the amount of people we currently have on the planet. They probably WILL use steam power for small things on Revolution, but steam is too inefficient for large things like cars and planes, which internal combustion engines made possible. Also, things that you probably take for granted like, um, the phone, were never designed to operate using steam. Things like communication and transferring information – something on which we’ve all become very dependent – would be much, much slower, which means that getting the smart people together who’d even know how to come up with an alternative source of power for everyone to work on it would be difficult. And they’d be fighting opportunists who are hungry for power the whole way.
I think Revolution is a show trying to make a statement about how helpless we’d all be without technology. Because seriously, as generations progress with less and less know-how about how do do things the “old-fashioned way,” I think it would take a long time for us as a species to 1) get used to NOT having electricity, and 2) get to a place where we figure out another energy source. I mean, we’re trying to figure out alternative sources of energy now, because of the environment and we still haven’t figured it out. And that’s WITH electricity.
Is the New Normal supposed to be a comedy? It looks like a nonfunny preachy suckfest. Unbelievable. The two male leads look like they’re made out of plastic. Ryan Murphy should leave the politics alone and just try to make entertainment. We get it, Ryan, you’re gay. Damn.
Woohoo, JJ Abrams, king of half-baked ill thought through scifi mystical concepts. If you haven’t been paying attention this is what will happen.
1. JJ bails early in the process off to start more pointless shoddy fodder.
2. Understanding of what is going on is inhibited by numerous mysteries central to the plot.
3. None of these mysteries will be explained in the first season.
4. Somewhere in the middle of season 2 the creeping realisation that no-one knew how this stuff actually ties together manifests
5. The show collapses under the weight of its own desperate contrivances.
I am no fortune teller, cf Alias, Lost, Fringe, Alcatraz…
Joss please come back, all is forgiven
Is it just me, or is Save Me seriously creepy?
It’s just you.
Oh, it’s creepy. And it’s a bad premise for a series and how much draw does Anne have? Just… it’s a disaster.
It’s not just you.
Go On looks funny- we need Matt Perry back on the air! The new Normal could be funny. The others look boring.
GO ON looks rough in that clip but I have hope for a Matt Perry show. And I gotta say that Dane Cook is looking funny and energetic in the NEXT CALLER trailer. Could be a good fit for him (yes, the haters will hate, but with good writing he’s a charming lead). MEN WITH KIDS looks painful.
why release clips and not a full trailer? I can’t get anything from watching a 1 minute clip of a show i’ve never seen. At least REVOLUTION got a full trailer.
These BTS clips don’t do the shows any favors. Bill Pullman stammering over his comments does not instill much faith in the show.
Definitely onboard for comedies ‘The New Normal’ and ‘Animal Practice’. They’ll probably be too smart for middle America, but I’ll be rooting for them. Also very excited about ‘Revolution’ and ‘Infamous’.
Go NBC GO!!!
Too smart for middle America?
When you’re done having a te-ta-te with your friends about how brilliant Sorkin or some other knob is, please look up California having the 4th worst schools in the country.
RIGHT next to Louisiana, I believe.
Do you mean tete-a-tete?
“Too smart for middle America” is not used to offend people, it’s just common jargon people in the industry say the show is high concept. I obviously don’t know “Shawndb” but I am guessing he did not mean to sound “te-ta-te” or cause offense.
What’s a te-ta-te? Is that something they have in Louisiana?
too smart for middle America… aren’t you the elitist one.
Now I’m not middle America, but ‘The New Normal’ isn’t too smart for me… it’s too damn preachy.
I want to be entertained, not talked down to, that’s why I don’t go to church either.
Based on just that one preview I would say so far there is probably no worry ‘The New Normal’ will be too smart for middle America or anyone else. And to the original poster: You are being a bigot by making comments like this. A good number of very intelligent people do not agree with the point of view you and Ryan Murphy share, and they have that right.
and thats what makes the world go round. Lighten up will you
Revolution looks good, but should of been made into a mini-series. Would even do well in SyFy or Fox. It is a shame that we will never find out how it ends.
Like all NBC sci-fi shows this too will end a miserable death.
Agreed. “Revolution” would have been better off as a one time serial like ABC’s “Day Break” a few years back.
Right? I could see that as a really good show with 10-12 episodes per season, but I’m not sure about 22-24.
I didn’t read the script but the trailer looks pretty cool. I’ll definitely give it a try but if the ratings become weak I doubt NBC will let it go past 1 season.
From the looks of things, it looks like the days of NBC being at the bottom of the ratings barrel may finally be coming to a middle.
nice
Lol! Love it. You should be writing for these shows!
my thought too. real abc fan but these previews look like i’ll be watching nbc and the new shows.
Animal Practice will be cancelled after two weeks.
You’re being generous.
I can’t believe i’m saying this but that Dane Cook show looks really funny. As does 1600 Penn. The others……gonna have to see more before making the call on those.
1600 Penn “looks” funny? Their clip was an interview with a cast member. And not even a funny cast member. When you see an clip from “Meet the Press”, do you think that show looks funny, too?
Save me… from watching Save Me. To me, the guy in this clip is so vanilla and uninterestingly actorish.
his hand gestures are acting 101 no-nos and his line readings seem as if he’s doing a table read and trying to please the writers. Would be better if Ann Heche was crazier…like she normally is.
Revolution looks interesting and Chicago Fire might be more interesting if it didn’t include Taylor Kinney and his horrific acting.
Uncle Mason’s role is to stand around looking good with no shirt on.
Yeah, I agree. These are the two shows that I will be watching next season. If not for Community, Grimm and Awake I had pretty much given up on NBC last season. I don’t plan on watching any of the other shows but will give “The New Normal” a try -at least it is trying to be different than the other comedies.
This is what they are using to replace Awake and Harry’s Law?
Bye, bye NBC.
Yeah, because if NBC kept shows getting 0.8s they’d be in such a better position, wouldn’t they?!
Save Me – creepy, but we’ll see if the bible thumper demographic can bring enough eyeballs to it to keep it on the air.
1600 Penn – Who knows, they didn’t show us anything.
Infamous – Acting at the level of a Des Moines community theater performance when they had thousands of pros to choose from can’t bode well.
Next Caller – Where’s the funny in this?
Do No Harm – Possibly interesting premise, but again, they phoned their performances in from Toledo. I can’t care about these people when they’re not doing much more than saying words.
Chicago Fire – Hunks speaking super lame dialogue but no one will care, because they’re hunks. Keep your shirts off guys, it helps ratings.
Guys With Kids – One word…. “cloying”
Animal Practice – I like the guy from Weeds, but scripted shows that rely on animals for gags last five minutes, and ohmygod are they hard to shoot.
Go On (to another channel)
Revolution – Probably the only new NBC show that will survive this year. It’s Jericho 2.0, sure… but with a much higher budget. I’ll suspend my disbelief that they could have make up and designer clothes 15 years after the power stops flowing and put this one on my DVR queue.
The New Normal – I personally agree that “love is love” but the characters in this show are just too Barbie and Ken – it’s trying so hard to be politically correct that it’s not entertaining.
Which actors are you referring to as far as “Infamous” and “Do No Harm” go?
I could only stand about 20 seconds of Save Me and I couldn’t stop watching Infamous as it was so terrible. Looks like they filmed it on someone’s home camcorder and as you said, they acting was laughable. I thought NBC couldn’t get any worse they then were under Silverman, but I’d take Trauma over anything shown above other than Revolution.
Oops, I meant Do No Harm, not Infamous. Speaking of Do No Harm, they are putting this on Sundays against AMC, HBO, FX and Showtimes offerings, lol, good luck.
This was spot on except for Next Caller rose above the fray and the Infamous team should have chosen another clip.
Revolution looks pretty awesome. It reminds me of Lost. Maybe finally a good show to watch in network TV.
Agreed! I’ve been waiting for something to fill the void LOST left. I think we may have found it.
So is Pullman going to pilot an F-18 this time as well? If not, 1600 Penn looks like a snoozefest.
There are other clips for these shows at nbc.com. I know we all love to hate on Dane Cook, but I’m feeling Next Caller. And the script for Go On was one of my favorites.
I’d be into Revolution if they had done a better casting job and if Tim Guinee were sticking around.
Revolution looks like a keeper. Do No Harm needs better advertising, more action/Jeckyl running amok.
Don’t know why I’m bothering to comment. No one listens at NBC. They screwed Kathy Bates and Jason Isaacs to get this new stuff which is 99% garbage. Might watch Revolution. Absolutely no interest in comedies-thinly veiled sexual inuendo these days is not funny just boring but I knowing their developers are stuck in their teen years
Save Me: Protagonist talks to God, everyone thinks they are crazy. Been there, done that.
1600 Penn: Do people want to watch another white family in the TV White House? Boring.
Next Caller: The Ugly Truth televised with more compelling leads. Still, meh.
Guys With Kids: What To Expect When You’re Expecting televised with unfunny leads.
Animal Practice: One of the costars is a monkey. NBC, you’re reaching a new low.
The New Normal: Promising, good conceit.
Go On: Matthew Perry’s same-old schtick. DOA.
Do No Harm: Stephen Pasquale as a neurosurgeon? This is a comedy, right?
Chicago Fire: Get real.
Revolution: Kings vibe, sort of Hunger Games-y, Walking Dead-ish. Could be good but DOA.
Infamous: NBC’s answer to Revenge.
you are on point on each show…. REVOLUTIONS.. their only hope…
I read the pilot for Do No Harm. It reminded me of Dexter in a good way. I like the actors involved too, so I’m interested to see this one.
Am truly sick of network TV– mostly just good looking people who can not act. case in point, the lead girl in Revolution. Can we please stop casting people because they are pretty and cast people who are believable and can act?
As opposed to Smash, where the cast is ugly and still cannot act…
That made me laugh out loud.
At least Revolution has Gus Fring, I’m going to catch a few episodes just to see Gus back in action.
You make a great point! I seriously believe that we are headed towards a 7+ episode, mini-series model for most dramatic television heading into the future. It’s cost effective for the networks, it keeps the audiences intrigued & waiting for each upcoming episode (great writing is key) and ultimately it’s probably the networks’ best chance at competing within this handheld/digital device, TV Everywhere environment.
A better example is ABC’s “Scandal,” the first season so far, the finale broadcasts later this week, was absolutely phenomenal, but aside from a few more loose ends that need to be tied up, my guess is that viewers will probably tune out for Season 2 and the show will be cancelled shortly thereafter.
I think its just another step in the evolution of how broadcasters respond to how viewers consume mass media and to be perfectly honest, I’m 100% on board!
Television is a business. NBC didn’t “screw” Jason Isaacs or Kathy Bates out of anything. Their ratings were HORRENDOUS and showed NO improvement.
Yeah, 9 million viewers = “horrendous.”
It is if the vast majority are over 50…
And when someone, somehow, somewhere figures out a way to monetize those millions of viewers then David E. Kelley will be laughing all the way to the bank. Until then, the show needs to show strength in the demo and it just plain did not.
Advertisers make these decisions for the networks. It’s called show business for a reason.
Meagan Good was horrible in that Infamous clip.
This show will never be “Revenge”, which is lots of fun to watch. Already terrible costuming on “Infamous” in just a couple of clips! Just like “Smash”. Hmmm I see a pattern here…2 shows that could have and should look great…instead look boring! Makes bad dialogue worse, and distracts from good dialogue.
Wpw, does Infamous look bad!
The show has to recast one of the major parts, so wouldn’t it just shoot the entire episode over again? If so, there’s quite a bit of room for improvement.
