NBC has greenlighted The Winner Is, a singing game show from John de Mol’s Talpa Media USA, which co-produces NBC’s singing competition series The Voice. The Winner Is, which features a $1 million grand prize, combines vocal and bargaining abilities. It is open to singers of all ages – soloists and groups that include adults, kids, teens, seniors, families and professionals - all of whom will compete in head-to-head singing duels.
The contestants will be judged by an in-studio panel led by a celebrity judge. After every singing duel round, each contestant will have the chance to negotiate a deal before hearing their fate. If they have doubts about how they have measured up against their opponent, they can leave the show — in exchange for the instant cash that round is worth. But if they’re confident they performed better than their opponent, they can await the jury results to see if they’ve made it to the next round. The amount of money each duel is worth increases with every round.
In the finale, eight singers will duel and negotiate until just two singing contestants remain. After their performance, they each get the chance to walk away with $100,000 — or await the jury vote and the votes from the viewers for the chance to win the $1 million prize. John de Mol, co-creator of The Voice and creator of Big Brother, is the executive producer. “We are thrilled to be working with John de Mol, the creator and one of the producers of The Voice, on this original singing game show that will feature a broad range of talent, dueling performers and the surprise of in-the-moment negotiations and decisions,” NBC’s head of alternative programming Paul Telegdy said. There is no air date for the series but it will likely be for midseason or next summer, with a run as a bridge between the two cycles of The Voice a possibility.

“From the makers of The Voice, it’s The Voice meets Deal or No Deal!”
Instant NBC commission.
Never mind the fact the show got thoroughly trounced in the Netherlands by The Mole…
I can just imagine the pitch. It’s the voice meets who wants to be a millionaire meets the apprentice boardroom.
It actually sounds oddly interesting.
So basically The X Factor
The Winner Is… is a show based solely on the weakest part of The Voice; the battle rounds.
For NBC I hope that ‘The Winner Is…’ will work better than it did in The Netherlands and Germany since it UNDERperformed there. There is a reason the rating decline from the moment that the battle rounds start…
So with all the “creatives” out there, this is what they come up with. Another spinoff of a singing show from a spinoff singing show, etc., etc.,…. Alan King (for those of us who remember him)once did a very funny piece on television programming. He basically said give to them (the audience once) and then again and again and again. And that’s just what’s been happening. No one really wants to(or possibly can afford) to take a risk and with no risks we get the same old tired formats, just done with different music, hosts and sets. Come on people…..it’s a risk but someone take it! And not you Ruppert..just go quietly to jail in England.
This is insanity. When network TV keeps piling talent shows into the schedule, audinces will tire, and then they’ll have nothing.
Why was this greenlighted? This show already flopped in The Netherlands and Germany. Can’t see it doing much better on NBC….
Good for Greenblatt–a singing competition. Cutting edge stuff. Comcast must be thrilled with the creative swath this genius is cutting.
Yes, what a great idea. I mean, singing competition shows are killing the ratings, right?
im detoxing off all new singing competitions- i was stupid enough to give duets a chance and it was horrific; I’ve already decided not to watch the voice again -
