UPDATE: Whitney now has also been officially picked up. The order for Parks & Rec is for a full-season 22 episodes. No definitive word on the size of the orders for the two freshmen shows yet, but they may be for 13 episodes in line with Community. UPDATE: Up All Night star Christina Applegate indicated on her Twitter feed that the show’s order is indeed for 13 episodes.
PREVIOUS:
NBC has resumed the renewal of comedy series with the pickups of Parks & Recreation and Up All Night for season five and two, respectively. There is talk that freshman Whitney also is getting renewed but no confirmation on that yet. And still no renewal for NBC’s fl
agship comedy series The Office. Up All Night co-executive producer, Everybody Loves Raymond veteran Tucker Cawley, is expected to be upped to executive producer/showrunner on the family/workplace comedy for Season 2, succeeding Jon Pollack, who left to join new NBC comedy series Go On as co-executive producer. Cawley is with CAA.

For full seasons or 13 episodes?
If Whitney gets renewed, I give up.
I totally agree with you and I also love Whitney. If NBC doesn’t pick Whitney up I’m also gonna be bummed and frankly shocked. My friends want to start a campaign to let NBC know how much they love Whitney. I think it’s better to talk to fans like you who also love it and have a hug fest. I don’t think NBC really listens to us all that much.
Besides…Whitney has solid ratings and is the first show of the night.
Whew, I’m glad I read the sarcasm in between the lines of your post because I was about to reply something else entirely to you. Ha!
Good for Whitney. That show was a sleeper and the best NEW sitcom of 2011 for NBC.
Time to give up.
We’ll miss you…
Any word on episode orders?
Pros: Will Arnett, Christina Applegate. Will Arnett and…Will Arnett.
Cons: Maya Rudolph’s character is a bit overwritten and boring.
Main criticism: The baby barely exists in the episodes. As a parent of a 16 month old…I loved seeing the baby hijink, but they have written that stuff off. I’m always thinking, “where is the baby while they have all this time to do whatever crazy stuff it is they’re doing?” Doesn’t have to be all baby, but make it believable.
Glad to see it continue.
I don’t see either of these overrated actors as pros.
Will Arnett will never be a mainstream star, because he comes across as a weird, androgynous-looking narcissist.
Im still waiting to hear news Harry’s Law. I hear it may get a midseason pickup for 13 episodes. It could possibly timeshare the day & time given to Parenthood which has been renewed for 15 episodes.
Any word on whether these are full season pickups?
YAY! for Parks & Rec, but why up all night?, its rating were awful even for nbc… i hate when a show get renewed just coz of the stars and producers..
Sadly, this is the main reason that poorly rated shows hang on…
So all you care about is the rating? I’d rather have a quality show, like Awake, than one with big ratings like Law and Order.
That’s not really true. Its ratings were no worse–and depending in how you look at them, better–than other NBC comedies.
Given that it started off more strongly than “Whitney” and has a better pedigree, no matter how you look at it, than that show, it’s no wonder “Up All Night” was renewed.
As for “Parks,” I couldn’t be happier. I just hope NBC can find the show a better spot. Unless it’s given a prime spot behind “The Voice” or some other strong NBC show, assuming they find one, it’s probably not strong enough to lead off the night. Are they planning on launching it at midseason?
As for “Whitney,” I can’t help but smile. I haven’t seen the show in months, but the last episode I saw, which was the Christmas episode, showed definite growth. It might never be a blockbuster, but if for no other reason than simple curiosity, I am very anxious to see what happens in season two. I’d love for the show to get better and better and to slowly but surely gain viewers, if only to shatter the mindset that a show needs to be big out of the gate or it won’t last. Where NBC puts this show is another question, but I guess we will know soon enough.
I need my Whitney and Harry’s Law. I am one of dozens of viewers NBC has, they can not afford to lose me by ending these two GREAT shows.
Thats right. Whitney has just over a dozen viewers. It’s nice when one can voice their opinion on this awful, awful show. And yet Community, is left high and dry because of crap like this.
full season or 13 episodes?
So is Parks for a half order or a full season???
good for P&R and UAN.
P&R deserves this and that is a no surprise pickup.
I need to see a Whitney pickup to hold hands with MWK.
I take that back. I think Whitney was the best new comedy of last season after it found it’s legs.
It’s time to go make so money with that show to pay for the spendy shows like COmmunity that don’t make it any more money than Whitney. Settle down…I’m a fan f Community but it’s not a cheap show and the boat is rocky with ratings and “actors”. Nuff said.
The new development must be horrendous to pick up all of these shows driving the network into the ground.
Please let Parks get a full season!!! PLEASE!!!!
You think Bob G would renew a show based on relationships with talent and producers? Yea right buddy. Those three actors are insanely expensive, not to mention Lorne’s fees. Ratings weren’t great, but the show has tremendous potential and will hopefully step it up in S2
Congrats to P&R, but I’ll take Whitney over Up All Night any day. I love all the cast members in UAN, but that show just didn’t work for me.
Glad to hear it.
Glad to see Up All Night coming back. I think it has really great potential. And Tucker Cawley is such a terrific writer, I look forward to seeing what he does with the show.
NBC really loves being in last place. Up All Night please. Pathetic.
On paper Up All Night looks great. But the show is a bore – even with a stellar cast. I am sad it’s so mediocre. They need to cut the entire Maya Rudolph character.
But happy happy for Parks. This season was awesome start to finish.
Whitney?
Wow.
Another 4th place guaranteed for NBC 11thyear in a row. This time next year exec. heads will roll. Losers!
Why couldn’t we lose this Whitney? I don’t mean I want Whitney to OD, I just wish this terrible show wouldn’t continue. I think NBC has some really fun sitcoms. I don’t think Whitney is one of them. Oh well. First time, long time. I’ll hang up and listen.
I’m right there with you….god this show annoys me!!
Astonishing. How bad must’ve NBC’s development been to bring back some of these “comedies.” I know it’s very difficult to make funny shows with characters you care about and root for. And I know NBC has the best of intentions to make such shows. But wow are they shitting the bed with these shows. And they must know it.
This makes no sense. I was looking forward to DOWNWARDLY MOBILE. Evidently the pilot turned out to be crappy, and I can accept that for its reason not moving forward. But for NBC to put known-crap like WHITNEY back on the air and not at least try out Roseanne’s show blows my mind.
Any word on Chelsea? It was a perfect coupling with Whitney and actually got really funny towards the end. Natasha Leggero is amazing. Loved her on the Joe Schmo Show.
