The network is yet to confirm, but I hear that NBC is renewing freshman reality series Fashion Star for a second season. The series, created by/exec produced/hosted by Elle Macpherson and featuring Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos, has not been a ratings standout, averaging a modest 1.3-1.5 in the adults 18-49, but it is very advertiser-friendly and has a successful fashion line offshoot, which may have tipped the scales in favor of renewal. “The show delivered a concentrated audience of rich urban women, and all the retailers did huge business,” one insider said. The list of Fashion Star-associated retailers includes biggies Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. Fashion Star is produced by Ben Silverman’s Electus, 5X5 Media and Magical Elves Prods.

Yeah. Because THIS is the news everyone who watches more than a half-hour of NBC at a time has been waiting for all day…
why????
If Nbc actually renews this Fashion Star program & DOESN’T renew Harry’s Law-that would suck on so many levels!!!
It’s not a bad show, but it’s not a great show. Seems better fitted in the summer slot then anything else.
Also — news on Fear Factor?
Why??? I’d rather 2 or 3 hour editions of “Biggest Loser” compared to more “Fashion Star.” Hell to the NO!
now that… is some pathetic programming right there!
This show has way too many judges. First the contestants have to listen to the inane comments of the “celebs” then again to Buyers. Cut out Simpson and Richie and use the money saved to launch a better show.
Judge comments ARE the show. The sale is the “prize”.
I agree Harry’s law should be renewed or at least go to TNT
NBC better renew Harry’s Law and Whitney I know that.
DEFINATELY Harry’s Law. Don’t really care or know about “Whitney”.
Why was this crap of a show renewed and yet it’s a show associated with that turd Ben Silverman? This show hasn’t been doing well ratings-wise but yet NBC demonstrates their stupidity once again.
Seeing the stores go into bidding wars is more exciting than hearing Heidi Klum say the same lines in the exact same tome year after year.
I absolutely agree with you on that. Good bye Project Runway, hello Fashion Star.
Well, the show is cheap to produce, has ratings that are pretty average for NBC, built-in advertisers and (apparently) has done great business for Saks, Macy’s and H&M. There’s no reason NBC shouldn’t renew the series as a filler or fill-in for midseason, especially if they’re going to be doing 13-episode seasons for its series/starting the season in August.
There is a huge collection of stupid helming that show. The execs all play by NFL rules now- throw the football and cash the check. None of them care and it shows. That show has no soul.
This defines why NBC has lost credibility—and creativity.
No surprise, given the non-creative lazy suits that now run Kabletown, er I mean NBC. A show that is essentially one long commercial, filled with B-level “stars” (at best), and with almost no budget.
Must see TV? No way!
Why are all of you so bitter? If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it. There’s no reason to rag on it just because you don’t like who’s on it. Calm down. Most of you are probably middle-aged losers who have nothing else going for you, so I guess I could pretend to understand your anger issues.
I like this show far better than Project Runway: Less drama, more show; and, a better show at that. It goes straight to the finished product where it’s either in, or out. I love that. I’m really happy that there’s going to be a second season. Can’t wait!
I like Fashion Star OK, not nearly as good as Project Runway though. Both shows have a place and a niche. Elle is a little stiff, and Jessica Simpson is a so-called mentor, but she doesn’t even designer her own line. Nicole seems to know what she is talking about and Varvatos is good. Glad to see it come back.

I was excited to audition for the Fashion Star Season 2 in L.A., and thought did my best presenting my original creations worn by my models who gave justice to the clothes. The interview was spontaneous, relax and thrilling. The interviewers were very nice and great. I made a good presentation of the clothes described them accordingly and replied as eloquently and natural as i can. I felt confident and honest to goodness envisioned that i was gonna make it. But since then, I have never heard from anyone from the Fashion Star if i made it or not, or even a “Thank You” note for at least spending our precious time to audition … I waited and waited, hoping to be cast or at least to know that i did not make it, until now that i found out they have started rolling the tapes. I heard of their new host choice in the person of Louise Roe, last October 24, 2012 and the joining of EXPRESS; so i thought, ah, they have solved what is called the major part of the program and now they will start calling in the Designers and hoping i would be one of them. But oooops, great disappointment when i found out they have started taping in October. I don’t know how to describe this organization, but this will not stop me from auditioning for the next season/s until i be cast for as long as the show will run. I hope this is not strictly for young designers or or with ethnicity issues. Just spilling thoughts. Thanks a Lot Fashion Star for the great experience you gave me.
I don’t care what anyone says. As the mother of an aspiring designer, I love that show and will support it 100% (Fashion Star, that is.)
