Here’s 20th Century Fox‘s red-band trailer for the retitled alien invasion comedy The Watch. Fox abandoned its original marketing scheme for the formerly titled Neighborhood Watch to avoid any unintended association with the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin tragedy in Florida. The R-rated comedy concerns a group of suburban men who form a neighborhood watch group and discover an alien plot to destroy the earth. It stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade. It was directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Jared Stern and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg. Shawn Levy produced. It opens July 27.

neighborhood watch has weird written all over it….this doesn’t change that.
What a painfully unfunny trailer… hoping they purposely left out all the jokes.
Agreed.
This is Ben Stiller, Shawn Levy and FOX attempting to be R-rated. Stick to “Night at The Museum”. Those suck too, but little kids don’t realize it.
It’s like, what if we all just curse the whole time, then we’ll be like Apatow or like “The Hangover”. But you’re forgetting one thing – the comedy part.
Apatow forgets about the comedy part, too.
I literally watched that with my mouth agape in confusion. This CAN’T be a real movie. No way. I thought the “white guys listen to rap in a PT cruiser LOLZ!” first trailer was bad, but this is a whole new level of WTF!?
Actually it’s was a spoof on Training Day.
There are some funny people in that movie. That trailer was completely laugh free though.
The alien plotline seems beyond stupid
Were they really trying that hard to get laughs? It looks painful. Maybe as an SNL digital short directed by Spielberg it could work, but not for 82 minutes.
Love love the talent involved in this.
Too bad the writer doesn’t have a comedic bone in his or her body.
How do you waste all that creativity given these actors. Even one actor is a gift, and to throw it away is embarrassing. Talking about body fluids as a mask for your lack of talent isn’t going to fool anyone. You may get box office, but you won’t get respect.
Holy shite, that was awful.
Wowzers. I know everyone always hates everything on this site, but that really is bad.
Why so raunchy? They’d get a bigger audience with a PG-13 rating. Also Richard Ayoade is so weird looking he completely pulls me out of the movie all I can think of is why they cast him in this. A black guy would have been smarter and if they had cast Jay Pharoah much funnier but with such a stupid insipid script they are stuck with a “comedy” that doesn’t work. A perfect example of a movie that never should have been made. The script should have been given to FOX TV to be done as an animated comedy series at least then they could have fun with it. D’oh!
The very small, very select club that is working in Hollywood these days needs to start kicking out members.
Judd Apatow, Seth Rogan, Ben Stiller… you’ve had your heydays, now it’s time to graciously step aside and turn the reigns over to the next generation of writers/actors whose material we haven’t seen recycled a hundred times already.
Yeah, this is so bad I can’t even get angry, just depressed. Not a fucking single laugh to be had.
It is odd, and it was only a so so trailer, but it actually got a couple laughs out of me toward the end. It’ll be better than The Dilemma or Couples Retreat, which isn’t hard. Hopefully Vince Vaughn becomes funny again. I think this has a chance of being decent. Everyone “hated” the trailer for 21 Jumpstreet too, and yet it was a funny movie that killed it at the box office. Commenters are too jaded on this site.
Johah Hill needs to be put in comedy jail for The Sitter…. what a train wreck.
I love comedy, I love sci-fi, and I’m a fan of all of the actors involved. I laughed out loud at the 21 Jump Street trailer and loved the movie. I am had fun watching Hot Rod. All that said…this trailer was god awful. Why go R-rated with a comedy with this logline? You’re shooting yourself in the foot. Who is that supposed to appeal to?
worst. trailer. ever.
Horrible trailer.
What did I just watched?
You may not have understood it, JennyL, because it was in English.
Horrible, horrible marketing materials on this film. What a waste.
Will someone please take Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s laptops away? Between this and GREEN HORNET, they should never allowed around the written word again.
One of the worst trailers I have ever seen. Is this supposed to be a comedy?
All the money they spend to make these trailers and THIS is what they went with?
This will be the biggest bomb of summer. It’s horrifying to think how much money they wasted on this shitty movie. It’s repellent in every possible way. The characters are jerks they have no appeal whatsoever. The plot is cliched it’s the Burbs but with aliens. How this got made when so many superior comedy scripts gather dust is truly astounding.
You would think Shawn Levy and Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn would know better than to like the script they were given to read. It obviously got worse and worse as it went along but the two big stars were play or pay and they needed something for the summer slot so this turned out to be it. A complete waste of time and money.
And “The Watch” is a stupid title they’d be better off sticking with “Neighborhood Watch” the audience won’t care about Trayvon Martin and besides their jackets still read Neighborhood Watch. Are they going to spend money to digitally alter the backs of the characters jackets before release and loop in new dialog to eliminate every line where Stiller or Vaughn tell somebody “we’re just the neighborhood watch”? If they don’t do that they are not eliminating the problem the title change implies.
Looks like a bomb of epic proportions no matter what its called. The Dark Knight Rises will have this as a snack on it’s way to 600M!
Did they get those gurus who did John Carter’s pr to work on this trailer??
are they puposefully making bad movies and remaking the greats into bad movies… and do the actors not know these ideas, premises are lame……. or are they in on it….where are the great stories that become the classics……..ehvII
I saw the non red band trailer and actually laughed. Then I saw the red band trailer and cringed. Will have to pass on this one.
