Another role on a newly picked up series, NBC’s drama Infamous, will be recast. Infamous (form. Notorious) is described as an opulent soap in which a female detective (Meagan Good) returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled Lawson family she grew up in — as the maid’s daughter — to solve the murder of the notorious heiress Vivian Lawson who was once her closest friend. The role that is being recast is that of bad boy womanizer Julian Lawson, the handsome brother of the murdered Vivian. Neil Jackson played the part in the pilot. This is the third recasting on a new NBC series. The female lead in comedy Animal Kingdom, played in the pilot by Amy Huberman, is also being recast. Additionally, the network will have to recast a role in the comedy Guys With Kids played in the pilot as a guest star in second position by Sara Rue after her other pilot, ABC’s Malibu Country, was picked up.

And so it begins…
Now that her pilot didn’t get picked up, Sarah Wright would be perfect for the role in “American Kingdom”. As for Sara Rue’s role they should get one of “American Pie” alumns, either Mena Suvari or Tara Reid.
Brutal. Man, the lives of actors are just psychological brutal. Don’t do it, kids!
The plot of Infamous sounds surprisingly like Dirty Sexy Money, only with the female detective returning to the wealthy family instead of the male lawyer, who was was trying to solve the murder of his father.
The plot sounds like the one made up by Dustin Hoffman’s character in Tootsie when he was trying to get off the soap (oops, I mean daytime drama.)
I’m glad I never wanted to be an actor.
Everyone knows the history of this hackey rip off of Revenge and Downton Abbey.
With all the opportunities to case a black person in a modern role, NBC chooses to do a maid with a gun.
Gone before Halloween.
Since this is NBC we’re talking about, I’m not surprised at all.
To be honest, casting her as the daughter of the maid is something I’ve never seen before, yet it works. During a time when African American women were working as nanny’s and maids, it isn’t a stretch for her to be the daughter of a maid or nanny.
Think of it as Sabrina done as a murder mystery and you’ll feel better.
I may be overly optimistic, but it could be an excellent opportunity to explore overlapping questions of class and race. More likely of course, it’ll just be sex and glamorous costumes.
Does Infamous sound a lot like Revenge to anyone else?
Originality? What’s that, NBC?
It doesn’t sound like revenge at all. In revenge, she knows who killed her FATHER. In Infamous, she’s looking for the killer of her best friend. On top of that she is a detective, not just some random girl who just happens to have money. In Infamous, she isn’t rich, her mother was a maid/nanny which isn’t a stretch for African American women at that time. When you watch the show, make your judgments then. None of us have seen it, therefore none of us can say what this show is similar to because I see no similarities.
You have a lot of nerve to complain about the plague of doctor/cop/lawyer procedurals on TV but then shrug off a series you haven’t even seen because of some broad similarities
That sucks. Neil Jackson is awesome.
Is hollywood aware that there are now a whole generation of African-American children that are growing up in very wealthy households? Not as the children of the maids of the households but as the people who own the house and the cars and have vacation homes on Martha’s vineyard.
They are very aware of this fact. And they absolutely hate it.
Jay, I honestly don’t think they hate it so much as they’re perplexed by it. Aren’t all black people in gangs? Aren’t all Latinas maids? Aren’t all Jewish women funny, but not sexy?
Live in a world that narrow and the Obamas, Sonya Sotomayer, and even Natalie Portman, all just seem like stunt casting.
Those are the shows we’ll be seeing in 20 years’ time.
Sure but nobody ever got rich by challenging the white American viewing audiences preconceived notions.
I don’t see how Infamous is at all Revenge like. Oh, it’s a night-time soap? That’s never been done before!! No shows called Dallas or Dynasty or Knots Landing or even Falcon Crest even existed! Revenge is the only night-soap.
Go **** yourselves.
Why were they replaced?
