2ND UPDATE 5:30 PM: This is a mini-shocker. Word is that CBS is passing on the Nick Stoller comedy pilot ENTRY LEVEL. There has always been concern whether CBS would schedule a single-camera comedy in its blocks of all-multi-camera sitcoms but the network had expressed commitment to the genre. However, while Entry Level was received well and was an early frontrunner, it looks like CBS will again stick to all-multi-camera comedies next season. I also hear that APPLEBAUM is now dead too, along with Oh Fk, It’s You. That leaves only Elementary, Ralph Lamb, Baby Big Shot, Golden Boy, Friend Me, Partners and possibly Martin Lawrence in contention. UPDATE 9PM: I’ve confirmed that the Marin Lawrence comedy is not going forward, so here you have it: ELEMENTARY, RALPH LAMB, BABY BIG SHOT, GOLDEN BOY, FRIEND ME and PARTNERS appear to be CBS’ picks for next season.
PREVIOUS SATURDAY AM: Rumors are flying that most of the other CBS pilots are dead, including TROOPER, WIDOW DETECTIVE, DORF/FALCONE and SUPER FUN NIGHT.
Information on OH FK, IT’S YOU has been conflicting, with some saying it’s dead and others suggesting that could still be a possibility for midseason.
PREVIOUS FRIDAY PM: And we’re down to the last network that is yet to pick up its new and returning series for next season — CBS. As usual, the Fort Knox of networks this time a year is keeping things close to the vest and dragging on the final pickup decisions until the very last minute. The Sherlock Holmes reboot ELEMENTARY continues its march to the fall schedule. The ambitious period drama RALPH LAMB is considered a major swing and departure from CBS’ comfort zone but, with its execution and the caliber of talent involved, including star Dennis Quaid, it continues to be considered a frontrunner. Among the three procedurals with a female lead, the legal drama BABY BIG SHOT looks like the frontrunner at the moment, and I hear it has begun making offers to writers. Of the other two, APPLEBAUM, which has had support from CBS’ Nina Tassler, has an outside chance, while TROOPER doesn’t seem to be going. Among the rest of the drama field, GOLDEN BOY is heating up again. On the comedy side, two buddy multi-camera comedies, PARTNERS and FRIEND ME, are getting the most buzz, both making writer offers, with the single-camera NICK STOLLER project in contention and the MARTIN LAWRENCE project a possibility, maybe for midseason.
On the renewal front, following the ratings increase for Unforgettable‘s season finale on Tuesday, the renewal chances of the freshman drama also seem to have gone up. Veteran utility player Rules of Engagement also looks good at the moment, while A Gifted Man is unlikely to continue and Rob has been very quiet. Things are still murky around the two CSI spinoffs (the mothership series has been renewed). The drumbeat early on that one of the two will definitely go away has quieted down, and with Jerry Bruckheimer’s pilot Trooper not going, there is speculation that the CSI franchise may cheat death and come back intact. Both sequels are profitable for CBS as they have off-network syndication deals and are big international sellers, along with the main CSI series. Only a week ago, the three CSIs were recognized as the three most watched drama series in the world by the Monte-Carlo TV Festival.

Oh, I thought “Friend Me” was dead. Martin Lawrence’s show better get picked up.
Martin Lawrence is about as funny as they come. Fingers crossed for his pilot.
Too bad he is nearly impossible to work with. Just ask Tisha Campbell what a joy it was for her to star opposite him in the 90′s.
What makes old people turn off their brains and watch CBS?
Ralph Lamb = this year’s Lonestar.
What happened to the jennifer beals pilot?
Keep Unforgettable, dump Rob.
So Super fun night is dead? and about Greg Berlanti comedy?
What happened to the Greg Malins pilot?
What about Widow Detective?
yawn…every year, CBS’ pilots plate look the same and dull…just more mediocre uninspiring cookie-cutter procedural.
This damn TV viewers, how dare they like mediocrity!
I’m not sure if that’s sarcasm or not, but I agree. How dare they like mediocrity?!
At least we have Person of Interest on CBS, that’s something different and exciting.
CBS must keep Unforgettable.
On the off chance that “Ralph Lamb” isn’t picked up, NBC should swoop in and snap it up. The same might be said for “Super Fun Night” and/or the Ferenstein/Louis C.K. comedy.
What the hell is going on with the Greg Berlanti pilot?
OH FK, IT’S YOU is the title of Greg Berlanti project as the updated article states. It’s no longer in contention.
Hoping David Walton other show Bent gets picked up by TBS. It would make a great pair with cougar town.
What about mike and molly? Has that been renewed? I’m worried because that is my favorite CBS comedy.
Mike and Molly was renewed several weeks ago; along with about 75% of the CBS shows.
I can’t imagine “Mike & Molly” is Mike and Molly’s favorite CBS show.
yeah i was hoping super fun night and the greg berlanti comedy geta picked up
er, wasn’t “A Gifted Man” already Canceled?!
how can you cancel any of the most watched shows IN THE WORLD?
Martin at Midseason? Fine. I’d prefer a fall order though. That pilot kicked a**
Unforgettable rocks. Poppy is breath taking
First off, I want to thank you Nellie for the fantastic job you’ve been doing on the pilot season updates – and still working hard late on Friday night!! Thank you!
Long day – finally CBS is up at bat. I’m pulling for Applebaum since it stars Rachelle Lefevre. Applebaum is a CBS Studio production, so that might help in the decision-making.
Regarding the comedies – I’m surprised CBS hasn’t considered moving Mike and Molly to Thursday. They/CBS need to create space behind 2.5 Men for new series – time to see if Mike and Molly can make it without the 2.5 Men lead in. I’d move both Mike/Molly and 2 Broke Girls to Thursday, and go with two new comedies on Monday – sooner than later since 2.5 Men may be near the end of its run, and HIMYM may also be nearing the end next May 2013.
Regarding the dramas – I wonder where CBS will place all their new dramas without canceling at least 3-4 current series/dramas. Gifted Man and maybe Unforgettable. After that? Sooner or later, someone at CBS is going to need to cancel one of Jerry B’s series, WITHOUT being ‘coerced’ to pick up another JB series. When that will day come, I can only guess, but that day is coming.
Super Fun Night is hilarious and it has Conan.
Just “Ralph Loeb” and “Over and Out” (the Martin Lawrence comedy) looks great. cbs needs to picked up that two.
Why would CBS pick up Golden Boy over renewing NYC 22? NYC 22 has more talent involved and a more prominent cast. Don’t think this uptick in Golden Boy buzz is accurate. I give Elementary 1 season. Casting seems odd, for what was one of my favorite scripts of the season. Wouldn’t it be something if Ralph Lamb falls apart…and Baby Big Shot!? Groan…
Is Golden Boy even a real option. CBS seems to wants to add at least one complex crime drama to it’s lineup. If so then Ralph Lamb is the only real option to do so. If Golden Boy is picked up they would have underplay it like its like all their other crime procedural. So people won’t come into having standards. Some people thought NYC 22 was going to be way more complex if had producers like Richard Price and Robert Deniro involved. Alas, The Chicago Code is still Broadcast last attempt at complex crime drama.
Unforgettable HAS to be renewed! This show has gotten better and better.
Poppy Montgomery is so talented and beautiful!
It’s a no brainer. Just cancel Unforgettable and pick up Applebaum. Swap one Montgomery for the other! At least Janet Montgomery can move her face and she can ACT…..
Always knew Unforgettable would stick around. GO POPPY!
Think NYC 22 should be in contention if they’re actually going to consider GOLDEN BOY. The show creatively works on CBS, and is leagues above BLUE BLOODS & CSI’s in terms of character & story. You can’t launch a show in April and expect monster ratings with little promotion. That considered, NYC 22 is bringing in a solid total audience. And GOLDEN BOY is no better off in terms of casting – in fact, NYC 22 has a more recognizable cast and bigger talent pool behind the show. CBS…come on now!!
Any chance the Louis CK project will be picked up?
that script was awful.
It should be
