LOS ANGELES — The Classification and Rating Appeals Board today upheld the NC-17 rating given to the movie Chained. The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) had assigned the movie the NC-17 rating for “some explicit violence.” In the appeal brought by Anchor Bay Entertainment, the Appeals Board heard statements on behalf of Chained from Kevin Carney, Executive Director of Marketing at Anchor Bay, and Jennifer Lynch, the Director of the film. The Classification and Rating Administration was represented by Chairman Joan Graves.

I know nothing about the film’s content and if the rating is valid, but didn’t Lynch have a similar ratings board issue with Boxing Helena? That was a dreadful movie that I only saw to see what all the hoopla was about.
PR move anyone?
NC-17 for violence? That must be some really nasty stuff, probably involving sexual situations. I can’t imagine that rating for violence alone, given what kind of gruesome, brutal films get R ratings.
Its about a serial killer who kidnaps a kid and tries to make him his mentor and teach him what he knows
I have seen the film and it is no worse than Saw or Scream or any of the horror franchises. The plotline with a young boy who is abducted and then must act as a kind of servant to a serial killer played by Vincent D’Onofrio in a brillant understated performance is what I am sure is bothering the ratings board. There is no violence of any kind or sexual abuse against the boy and after about the first fifteen minutes the film moves ahead by about 10 years where the young boy is now a young man who must decide whether he himself can keep his humanity and avoid following in his “master’s” footsteps. I think that this is a filmmaking at a very high level and that Jennifer Lynch deserves to get her film seen by a wide audience.
From what I’ve read “their” main reason for slapping the NC-17 rating on the film was for the throat cutting scene. Hopefully it won’t be edited too much for fear of losing the authenticity of the film.
They have there heads up those big, sedentary, irrelevant, fannys. Did they see Lifetime channels” Blue Eyed Butcher”? What hysteria will ensue when these ‘brown shirts’ see “Paperboy”! A brilliant film, f**k em! These people are in a business that might be part of the governments “nanny state. I’d rather see violence etc., in art (film etc.,) rather the ‘entertainment’ on the news! But, sooner than you think, they’ll be banning and burning books! Go tell your family, you child what to watch. I already have parents.
“Chained” is about many things, the actors are wonderful, Vince, always great, Ms. Lynch always taking chances and of course, if she was a guy director, well, everybody would run out and see it. They certainly went out in droves to see the “Saw”‘ “Hostle” and this film is a showcase of a different kind of story. Watch befor you have something to say…so you might have a real have an opinion. You twits!
