The Disneyland-themed episode of ABC’s Modern Family (4.3/12 in adults 18-49) last night was up three tenths from the fast national last week (two from the final) to post a two-month high for the hit comedy and its most competitive finish ever against Fox’s American Idol (4.4/12). Both series will likely be adjusted up in the finals. The rest of the ABC shows were within a tenth from their results last week: The Middle (1.9/6) was down a tenth, Suburgatory (2.1/6) and Revenge (2.2/6) were up a tenth, and Don’t Trust The B—- (2.3/6) was down a tenth from its fast national, even with the final.
Idol was down two tenths from its fast national last week but still delivered another Wednesday victory for Fox in 18-49 and total viewers. CBS’ Survivor (2.7/8) was up a tenth from last week. Criminal Minds (2.8/8) was down two tenths while the season finale of CSI (2.4/7) was up a tenth from last week to win the 10 PM slot but down 8% from last season’s finale.
NBC’s Off Their Rockers continues its wild ratings swings. The 8 PM episode (1.5/5) was up 15% after a 24% drop last Wednesday. The 8:30 PM episode (1.6/5) was up 14%. Rock Center‘s three-week streak of ratings increases was snapped last night when the newsmagazine (0.8/2) dropped 20%. The newly renewed Law & Order: SVU (1.7/5) was down 11%. The CW’s America’s Next Top Model was down a tenth.

I thought the pilot of SUBURGATORY was decent, but after four eps I lost interest. I tried jumping back in when it returned in January and then again when Alicia Silverstone started her guest arc – same results (zzzzzzz). I really hope ABC moves it to another night and pops in a new comedy to try out between the far superior and underrated THE MIDDLE and the smash that is MODERN FAMILY.
I kinda feel the same way about “Suburgatory.” I still enjoy Jane Levy’s scenes and the high school world created in “Suburgatory,” but I find myself fast-forwarding through any of the scenes in the grown up world featuring Jeremy Sisto.
Wonder if the uptick for Modern Family had anything to do with the president’s endorsement of gay marriage. I can just hear people talking about it around the water cooler and those against it being told by co-workers, just watch Modern Family tonight…
Water cooler? What are you, 90? And you think people are going you watch a gay themed show because of Obama, and suddenly everyone loves gay people? Wow. 31 votes of the people, 31 votes against gay marriage. Obama can’t change that.
You gotta love Nbc. SUV is renewed & is immediately rewarded with an 11% percent drop. Some network-if it can still be considered a network. CW is just as bad,or,even worse(if that’s even possible). It may have been smart for Nbc to pick up that Roseanne-Goodman show because at least it may have generated some positive buzz for the network. I’ve heard some fans who saw the pilot taping saying it was very funny, but,I don’t know. For some reason they haven’t picked it up. In Nbc’s continued stupidity they seem to believe a show about guys with kids who refuse to grow up will bring this network to the promise land. That particular signing made me think-Here we go again. Anyway, the fall season should be great as Nbc & the CW continue their respective races to the bottom. Regardless of which one gets there first-the losers will unfortunately be the viewers. Thank you.
I certainly agree with the Suburgatory comments on here. I tried to watch that and it just doesn’t fit in between two hilarious and warm hearted family comedies like The Middle and Modern Family. Last Man Standing does fit, perfectly. Apt 23 doesn’t belong on Wednesday either- a 2.3 demo rating from a lead-in of 4.3 is pitifull. I tried to watch that and all I could get to was the lady sitting at the restaurant table feeding her dog and mumbling some incomprehensible googledeboop and it wasn’t even a tad bit funny. Remember, last May when Cougartown was pulling 2.4 to 2.7 behind Modern Family and against a stronger-than-ever Idol that was pulling 25 million viewers and a +7.0 demo. Now Idol can barely pull over a 4.0 demo and barely reach 16 million viewer, yet there is no improvement in ABC’s 9:30 timeslot because they continue to squander the 2nd half of the hour on garbage. Bring back “Better With You” is the comedy pickings are slim this year. Didn’t ABC have their hands on a new show from the writers/developers of Modern Family? Wonder what happened with that???
Say good-bye to Rock Center and The Rockers show should just be a mid-season replacement for next year. Apt. 23 is hit or miss.
