It was a night of finales and premieres and Howard Stern promising to play nice in primetime. The self-proclaimed King of All Media’s debut as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent (3.6/10) was down 16% from last season’s May 31 opener but still won the 9 PM slot Monday. The two-hour season premiere came in just short of last week’s The Voice finale. On CBS, the hourlong finale of How I Met Your Mother (3.6/10) was up 9% from two weeks ago. The Two And A Half Men (3.8/10) finale was even with the previous week. Mike & Molly (3.3/8) and Hawaii Five-0 (2.7/7) were up 6% and 17% respectively in their season-enders.

CBS took the night in adults 18-49, but ABC won in total viewers.
The semifinals first hour of Dancing With The Stars (2.4/7) was down a touch from last week. Dancing With The Stars (2.9/8) also dipped a bit in its usually strong last half hour from 9 to 9:30 PM. The 90-minute premiere of The Bachelorette was 2.6/7 in its 9:30-10 PM slot and 2.5/7 in the 10-11 PM time period. That’s makes single mom Emily Maynard’s search for her man down 11% from last season and the series lowest-rated premiere. The Smash (1.8/5) first-season finale was even with the recently renewed series’ performance last week. The end of the seventh season of Bones (1.9/5) on Fox saw the series add 1% to last week’s numbers but hit a finale low. The second-to-last episode ever of House (2.2/6) saw Hugh Laurie and his band of medical misfits up 5% from last week. The finale of Gossip Girl (0.6/2) was up from last week, while the Hart Of Dixie (0.6/1) finale was steady from the week before.

I am not a reality show fan, but AGT just has a second rate vibe to it. It feels like it is just there to fill a reality program slot for a network because they did not pick up American Idol when they had the chance.
Watched most of the show which, certainly, AGT paid tribute to its newest judge, Howard Stern.
I am guessing the producers will take off Howard’s leash quite soon, because for the the moment, he was as interesting as vanilla pudding…maybe?
The new “America’s Got Talent” is a major disappointment. It’s now about celebrity judge egos and making fun of bad talent. I tried tuning in several times during the premiere, but couldn’t stand it.
Slow, tedious, and not enjoyable.
It’s awful-horrible “talent” and Howard Stern is no big deal to me. SMH.
So you get Howard Stern and you still premiere 16% under last year’s AGT premiere. Just more proof that NBC can’t do anything right (especially launching shows). The bad results of premiering AGT earlier than last year will just be repeated with too early premieres this fall (right after the Olympics).
As Univsion pointed out after beating NBC 195 nights, NBC is “Might See TV” at best and slipping further and further into an abyss.
But in fairness, AGT’s premiere last year was on June 2… well after the season was over.
This year, it was against season finales of some pretty strong-performing shows on other networks.
So a 16% decline given this different climate isn’t that big of a surprise. Howard may not have added a lot… but if it were the same group of judges, but in this situation, it could very well have been lower.
Hadn’t really watched it before, I watched it for Howard. But the show is just such crap. Rather than Howard lifting the show up, the show dragged him down.
You know how the MTV VMA’s have edgy hosts (Chelsea Handler, Russell Brand) and then tell them, “Now don’t do or say anything TOO outrageous!”
That’s what this move reminds me of.
Every so often I’ll tune in to AGT out of boredom. I watched it last night to check out the Stern Debut. Howard’s ego came off as ‘as big as all outdoors’. He made the show all about him.
I’m sure the other 2 judges were NOT happy.
Add to that that the show lets ANY untalented hack “audition” for this show. It’s not unlike a reality show garbage dump. I don’t want to see anyone under the age of 16 do ANYTHING. I do not want to see a man with black and rotted teeth stick nails thru his face.REALLY !!! Last night there were 2 good acts in 2 hours. The father/daughter singing duo and the VERY INCREDIBLE ‘EARTH HARP’.
I won’t be watching again. The 2 hours of listening to Howard Stern talk about himself was enough to last me the rest of my life.
The “King of all Media” is a legend in his own mind. Apparently his loyal subjects are not so loyal afterall.
This coming from the same person writing under different names to bash him. Like we are going to take what you say seriously.
And the ratings are fine.
No. baba is a one-time basher.
America’s got talent is my least favorite reality show out of all of them.
It was a bit of a mess if you ask me. Howie and Sharon looked uncomfortable and subdued while Howard hogged the spotlight. There was no real chemistry between the three.
The bad acts were unfunny and quite repulsive. The show was trying to hard.
Hadn’t seen it before last night. The show is an overproduced, self-congratulatory mess. Network tv has primarily reduced itself to a pandering, trailer park mentality.
The show and his jokes are old….and so is he.
I’m not going to be down on two summer shows like AGT and The Bachelorette that both got strong demo numbers and viewer numbers aginst heavy competition. Clearly, both are going to be summer hits.
People who hate Stern will never watch this show. The network should cut its losses and apologize to America and its other stars. This was the dumbest move I’ve ever heard of. Stern, like Limbaugh, has made a fortune belittling and insulting women and, in this case, clearly viewers are paying him back.
This is nothing more than a publicity stunt by NBC to garner more ratings and they failed. Nobody takes Stern seriously on anything except when he does that idiotic radio show of his.
AGT with Howard is much better than the previous years. The show itself has always been second rate behind Idol and Stars. Give it a few more episodes and the live shows and it will be even better.
These ratings should not come as a surprise to anybody in the tv business with a functioning brain. Idiotic idea.
The show itself is garbage. Ive never watched it before, i dvr’d it just to see Howard for a few minutes. He never comes off well when hes not in the comfort of his radio show. As a long time fan of Howard, who has become tired of Howard, it was sort of sad watching him standing and clapping at some of these acts. I dont blame him for taking the job. Id stand and clap at dopey acts for a lot less….
Yea, its the same person bashing Howard under different names on this board.
Lame
I’m still trying to figure out what Stern brings to the show.
Frankly, he was rather boring, spent too much time talking about himself, and rather than being “brutally honest” he was nicer than Sharon.
The thing is the judges need to be entertaining on a show like this because the acts rarely are. Stern hasn’t been entertaining so far and the other two might as well not be there because they made it the Howard Stern show.
Gotta let stern loose ,,only reason I’m watching is for stern ,,,let stern b stern
