Fox’s streak of 19 consecutive Wednesday night ratings victories in adults 18-49 and total viewers carried over to the summer. The network won the first off-season Wednesday with a two-hour So You Think You Can Dance for a 20th nightly crown in a row. SYTYCD (2.6/8 in adults 18-49, 7 million viewers) was up 8% in the demo from last Thursday’s season premiere.
CBS’ new reality series Dogs In The City (1.3/4, 6.7 million) didn’t have much ratings bite. It was down 13% in the demo from the premiere of CBS’ reality series Same Name last summer (which aired at 9 PM) but up 25% in total viewers and edged SYTYCD for the No. 1 spot among viewers in the 8 PM slot. Dogs In The City was also down from the debut of the previous dog summer broadcast reality series, the 2008 America’s Greatest Dog (2.1/8, 9.5 million), also on CBS, and from the opener of the first new reality series debut this summer, ABC’s Duets (1.7/5, 6.7 million).
NBC barely got on the board with Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final despite featuring teams from the top two markets (or in close proximity to them) — the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils — and despite going into overtime. Time-adjusted numbers for the game won’t be available until later today, but in the fast nationals, it posted a 1.0/3 among adults 18-49, down 44% from last year’s Game 1. For now, it ranks as the lowest-rated program on the Big 4 broadcast networks and Univision despite a slew of reruns on ABC and CBS.

not too surprised about the hockey ratings. it’s two of the least popular teams in the league (fanbase-wise). just because they are in big market areas means nothing when no one in those areas care about the team.
Dogs in the City belongs on Animal Planet. It’s a soft cable show. Animal Planet already has a “fix my trouble cat” show, so this would fit nicely.
Last night’s premiere was horribly produced. The retired cop and adopted Chinese girl (she was fuckin’ annoying) — what was wrong with their dog? NOTHING! They thought she was overweight, but it turns out she wasn’t. Wow, what drama.
The hockey game was pretty good, actually.
SYTYCD is a third rate show catering to a small niche audience, thus the pitiful numbers. The judges don’t help matters much either – Nigel is a so so personality and a bit of shill. Mary is a loud mouth and her constant screeching is quite off putting.
Watched five minutes of it and will never go back.
Here’s the problem with the hockey gsme…
It’s HOCKEY!!!
Considering the NHL is screwing up the whole broadcast scheduling of this series, as it’s airing on two networks and the fact you have two teams nobody truly cares about, the ratings are going to reach an all-time low for this series and for that buttgoblin who is just ruining this league with his insane ideas. As for that horrible CBS reality show Dogs, no surprise there as the concept for this show is just outright stupid and idiotic in scope.
