Rebecca Hall is in talks to join Iron Man 3. The Town star would take over the role in the Marvel franchise that Jessica Chastain was up for until this weekend. “I’m sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in,” Chastain announced on her Facebook page on Sunday. If Hall steps into the role Chastain was considering, she will not be playing Iron Man 3’s female lead. Gwyneth Paltrow will return as Pepper Potts. Paltrow, who was in both previous Iron Man movies, made a short appearance as Potts with Iron Man himself Tony Stark AKA Robert Downey Jr. in the recently released The Avengers. Hall’s likely role will be that of a scientist rivaling Stark in her genius and skills. Shane Black is directing Iron Man 3. The sequel, which will shoot in China and in North Carolina, is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2013. Iron Man isn’t the only member of the record-breaking box office sales Avengers team with a sequel in the pipeline for next year. Thor 2 is expected out on November 15, 2013. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed today that an Avengers 2 is in development.

Is she’s available, they should expand this “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” reunion and cast Michelle Monaghan.
This is a good call for Jessica. She’s too precious to sell out. Once that step is taken – there is no turning back. Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Scarlett Johanson, curious to see what happens to Emma Stone, Katie Holmes (well her marriage hurt her prospects), did Portman really gain from Thor. All good careers and great money – but Jessica does not need this now. She’s just starting.
Huh. Well I guess it would make sense, as Iron Man’s prefect nemesis would be a human can opener.
As for Chastain, she should ask Emily Blunt what wonders turning down the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2 did for her career. A prominent role in a lucrative franchise versus a Jack Black egofest? Mmmm.. tough choice indeed, Em.
I find the revolving door for this role kind of interesting (didn’t Chastain turn this down once already?)…a sign that not everything in the script is even close to being locked down yet? (See also Ben Kingsley’s recent comments, where he literally seemed to have no clue about who or what he was playing)
Blunt didn’t turn down IM2 — FOX held her in a contract which stipulated that they had “first dibs” on her “services” for the period that both productions were scheduled to film. Same problem as what *almost* recently happened with Jennifer Lawrence and the “X-Men: FC” sequel vs. “Catching Fire.”
Oh, and some would argue that Dunst recently made a nice “comeback” to “legit” cinema with “Melancholia.”
Kilmer and Keaton are attempting to “make amends” within the industry as well…
I think Emily Blunt was locked out of signing up by being tied down to Gulliver’s Travels by a contract that was invoked when she got the Iron Man offer… I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt here until I’m told otherwise. That film could not have even looked good on paper…
Shooting in North Carolina? Really – after yesterday’s anti-gay vote?
I trust Robert Downey Jr or Gwyneth Paltrow will put their foot down and insist the shoot relocate. Send a message to the bigots.
Considering the despicable vote in North Carolina, I don’t think I could buy a ticket to Iron Man 3 unless they found someplace else to shoot… Boycott NC!!!
Emily Blunt was forced to drop out of Iron Man 2 because the studio behind the Jack Black movie had options on her and scheduling couldn’t be worked out. She didn’t have a choice.
