Maker of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 Atlas Productions filed suit today in Los Angeles Superior Court against Relativity Media, RML Acquisitions and Netflix over failure to pay license fees and alleging copyright infringement. Atlas accuses the companies of breach of contract and failure to pay $1.5 million in license fees in connection with post-theatrical distribution of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 including video on demand on Netflix. Atlas Productions says that despite demands for two separate payments of $750,000, no payment has been made. A separate part of the suit accuses Netflix of copyright infringement. Atlas seeks $1.5 million plus interest plus unspecified general damages as well as court costs and any further relief the court deems appropriate for breach of contract plus additional damages on other causes of action including copyright infringement by Netflix. You can read the lawsuit here.

Guess they need to make their money back for that terrible film somehow. Heh.
Spot on
Saw that movie, wish I hadn’t. Netflix should counter-sue for artistic pollution and wasting innocent viewers time.
The ultimate pro-big-business movie has to sue big businesses? Come on, there’s at least a bit of irony there.
Well, it wouldn’t be true to the spirit of Ayn Rand if it wasn’t at least a LITTLE hypocritical.
Yes, a lawsuit over a massive flop makes lots of sense, for the lawyers!
Can’t be any more absurd than the tedious turd of a movie!
HA! I guess this lawsuit is the ONE way they found to make money on this alleged “film.” What a pile of shyte it was.
But just like the hypocrites they are, they whined to the courts because things aren’t fair.
Survival of the “fittest,” my ass.
Relativity doesn’t have money to pay someone they owe? I’m SHOCKED. SHOCKED. Uh, Nicki this isn’t exactly breaking news.
1.5 MM for the streaming rights to a movie that made $4MM at the Box office world wide??? That seems a little off in my book.
that’s what happens when you get in bed with these psychos.
They must be under the delusion that someone watched it.
LOL, this wasn’t and never will be a “movie” — at best half a movie that should never have been released until the second half was completed. Oh, that’s right, they didn’t have the money. And now they’re trying to get it. Netflix should be suing Atlas Productions for misrepresentation.
And beneath it all, Ayn Rand is spinning.
And Netflix Shrugged…
s
They’d have to pay me $1.5 million to watch it.
LOL. Ordinarily, I’d root for the producers in a case like this. But the particular batch of bozo know-nothing “producers” (read: exercise equipment company CEO) behind this schlock fest decided to offshore work for the sequel instead of keeping it local. Although the ‘film’, such as it is, is shooting in LA, the computer graphics and visual effects work will be done in China. So I hope they get crushed with legal fees and lose every dime they invested in the movie. Serves them right for not giving work to the LA talent in post.
I think more people read this story than saw the movie. How soon before Atlas sues deadline.com for a cut of their profits?
Wow. NO bias here!
If they did breach contract… then a suit is logical and warranted!
If they did not, that will come out during the suit.
Why all the hate for the movie? I really enjoyed the message.
Am I to assume most of the comments above are from typical brainwashed Statists who just didn’t get it?
