Comedy veteran Ric Swartzlander (Garry Unmarried) has been tapped as executive producer/showrunner of Cougar Town as the comedy is moving from ABC to TBS with a 15-episode fourth-season order. He succeeds Cougar Town co-creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence who is stepping down to focus on development under his Warner Bros. TV overall deal but will remain involved and is keeping his executive producer title. (Lawrence has extra connection to the show as his wife, Christa Miller, co-stars on it.) Lawrence co-created Cougar Town with Kevin Biegel, who will become a consulting producer. Swartzlander has ties to both TBS and Cougar Town producer ABC Studios. He did a pilot, In Security, for TBS and recently worked on the ABC/ABC Studios comedy Man Up! His single-camera credits also include the ABC Studios-produced Samantha Who?

no one wants to see more episodes of this show.
That’s an incorrect statement.
Speak for yourself. I want to see more episodes of this show and I know many others who wants to see more episodes too. So not just “no one”.
Anyway not familiar with this guy, but hoping the show continues to hold up the quality of season 3.
And you are the all knowing? Did you ask anyone? Where did you take a poll? C’mon, get real……they have a huge fan base that will switch the channel to TBS. By the way, I don’t think anyone cares if you don’t like the show.
Really, nobody does. Take a chance on newer material TBS. You’ve become the Leftovers network, and nobody likes sloppy seconds.
We do!
Is he good though, I love CT and hope it stays the same
I love it when someone says “no one” wants this and “nobody” wants that as if they have direct knowledge from the entire world. Always amusing.
I am glad this show will live on. It’s quirky, sharp and quick. The writing is clever and the actors are spot on. A lot of people don’t get it.
Lets hope this doesn’t turn into Man Up! That show was complete shit!!
The real story is how will Bill Lawrence leaving the show effect the story line that Eric Lynch (Eric the Actor) was going to have this season.
Samantha Who? and Cougar Town are pretty similar in tone – hopefully this means we won’t see things change too much.
Guess the first poster should have said “nobody who has taste” wants to see more episodes of this terrible, lame, unfunny show. People who watch this show are the same types who would vote for Sarah Palin.
LOL! Some Deadline commenter’s never fail to make me laugh
(not as much as Cougar Town does though, obviously.)
Wrong again…no way I would vote for Sarappaling. But I LOVE Cougar Town. Perhaps those who don’t love it, just don’t get it or the comedy of it? The lines are clever and humorous…maybe too much for the naysayers to understand?
I’m sure there are some clever moments. Some moments doesn’t mean it’s a clever show. And we’re sorry we’re not on your level, Barry. But we are happy we amuse you.
The internet is AWESOME!
“I hate…”/”I love…”
“I’m anonymous.”
(Pointing a finger at myself here, Sparky.)
Obviously they wouldn’t have picked it up if they thought it didn;t have ad revenue/viewer potential.
CT is a fun show that’s gifted with a character dynamic (chemistry) that speaks to fans of it.
Diss it all you like but the actors/characters work well together and (from my single-viewer perspective) I’ve loved what they’ve done.
But I’m not “The Boss” of TV so feel free to fire away.
I’ll be following it.
(Have a GREAT long weekend!)
Have to say this third series of the show has been very uneven and im not sure it should go on,but i’ll give the new guy a chance but with much lowered expectations
Funny, I thought it was exactly the other way around: In my opinion Cougar Town’s third season was the best so far in the shows run. I wonder if the new guy will be able to hold up these standards. But unlike over at Community’s (for which I have the feeling that the showrunner change will have a much, much heavier impact), here the show’s creator will at least have a few words to say about the production.
I’m a huge lib (no Pain fan here – although my mom is a Palin and CT fan) who loves Buffy, Arrested Development, Modern Family, AND Cougartown. I know it’s not a critical darling but I’ve always found the writing to be very funny and the characters really likable. So I’m glad it’s staying around and just hope it doesn’t change after the move. And I also hope Eric the Actor gets his moment to shine!
I’ve worked with Ric. He is as smart and funny a guy as there is in the business. Say what you want about the show, but it is in very good hands.
I’ve watched the show a few times and thought it was cute enough. Any news about a decent show making it is good news, especially one this close to syndication. People are still working in tough times, think of it that way. Hats off to all involved.
