LOS ANGELES, CA – May 2, 2012 – Robert Pattinson has come on board to star in the upcomingfilm “Mission: Blacklist” with Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire committed to direct. The screenplay was adapted by “Band of Brothers” writer and producer Erik Jendresen from the Harper Collins novel Mission: Black List #1 written by military interrogator Eric Maddox with Davin Seay. Ross M. Dinerstein, Managing Partner of Preferred Content, is producing alongside Jendresen and Kevin Waller.
Embankment Films, the international sales and distribution company recently launched by international sales veterans Tim Haslam and Hugo Grumbar will begin selling the film at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
”Mission: Blacklist” is a psychological thriller that details the true, inside story of the search for Saddam Hussein and the interrogator, Eric Maddox, who spearheaded his capture.
“This movie is a gripping, edge of your seat thriller,” says Dinerstein. “I have been inspired by Robert and Jean-Stéphane’s dedication to tell this story in the most authentic way possible, and I’m thrilled to add Hugo and Tim to our team.”
Pattinson can next be seen in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis,” which is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Sauvaire’s last film, “Johnny Mad Dog,” premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Prize of Hope.
WME represents Pattinson, Jendresen, and Sauvaire. Pattinson is managed by 3 Arts Entertainment and represented by the Curtis Brown Group in the UK. Sauvaire is managed by Anonymous Content.
The deal was brokered by WME Global’s Graham Taylor and Deborah McIntosh and PreferredContent’s Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza. WME Global and Preferred Content will be corepresenting the North American rights.

I loved Band of Brothers, so this sounds promising.
Awful “actor” and his movies outside Twilight didn’t set the box office on fire. How many chance will he get? The clock is ticking. tsk tsk
Well Remember Me did $56.5 million worldwide and $12.5 million in dvd sales on a $16 million budget. Water For Elephants did $116.8 million worldwide and $14.3 million in dvd sales on a $38 million budget. I don’t think either producers are complaining too much. See this is what happens when you let people feed you information without checking it out for yourself.
Would you stop it with those Worldwide numbers? Why twihards bring those worldwide numbers every time when people say that Pattinsons movies failed? Remember Me had domestic total gross: $19 millions. Water for Elephants had domestic total gross: $58 millions. International numbers matter when it has at least $200-300 millions. When movie get worldwide gross around $300-700 millions – then it matters big time. When they have some $50-60 it doesn’t matter.
John Carter has worldwide gross $269 millions. And it has budget $250 million. It doesn’t mean that producers of John Carter put 19 millions in their pocket. They lost around 200 millions of dollars on that movie!!! It doesn’t work like that – Remember Me had $56 millions worldwide which means that producers put $40 millions in their pocket. They did not.
They cast Pattinson in Water for Elephants because they thought that he will bring his Twilight fans with him. And movie would get some 80-100 millions. He did not. His so-called fans don’t care about him when he is not Edward. Even ridiculous Zac Efron with The Lucky One will bring more money than Pattinson with any on his solo movie
Why twihards bring those worldwide numbers every time when people say that Pattinsons movies failed?—-> Maybe to show that in FACT his movies DIDN’T fail? Duh.
International numbers matter when it has at least $200-300 millions. —> Did his other movies make Twilight numbers? Of course not – Twilight is a whole different animal. did they make money for the studio? YES. Therefore, it matters.
WFE numbers on a 38M budget is a great return, especially when I keep hearing on the state of the movie industry nowadays.
Chris, Ditto there, David Cronenberg, as well as several other directors have praised his acting skills. Seriously, Cronenberg would hire an actor if he didn’t feel he was up to the job. Many of his co-stars, eg Pierce Brosnan, Reese Witherspoon have praised him as very dedicated, hard worker, as have critics as far an wide as the NY Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Arizona Chronicle, as well as Roger Ebert have praised his acting. Entertainment weekly said of him (last year before his latest films, Bel Ami and Cosmopolis wrapped) “Pattinson like James Dean holds back so much taht when he lets loose, it’s cathartic.” Just because an actor stars in a film based on a teen fangirl book, does not make him a bad actor.
Well,Said.
this sounds like an indie film, so i wouldn’t expect it to “set the boxoffice” on fire. how many chances will he get? didn’t know there was a set limit for actors. good thing you don’t have to worry about it.
I beg to differ in that the clock is ticking on his career because since he became a star just a little over three years ago, he has not had a massive failure (a John Carter or an Abduction). True, his non Twilight films were not blockbusters but combined, grossed 180-200 million worldwide including dvd sales and did not lose money for investors. As for his talent, it’s subjective. Where some see none, others see the quiet stoicism of a young Gary Cooper. You might want to ask David Cronenberg, one of the most talented and respected filmmakers in the world, his opinion of Pattinson’s talent. In his upcoming Cosmopolis, Cronenberg said that Pattinson is going to -and I quote- “Blow minds. He is the most intense actor of this generation”. What most fail to realize is that Stephenie Meyer described her vampires as moving statures, internally frozen like granite and in attempting to portray this, he got labeled as a wooden actor. With his screen presence, talent and box office launch, he is being groomed to be one of the major stars of his generation. And all he has to do is make the right decisions. With Cronenberg and now this project, it looks to be that he is doing just that.
Comparing Robert Pattinson to Gary Cooper? This is why people think Twilight fans are insane.
FYI, I remember the Gary Cooper comparison was made by a critic who reviewed Water for Elephants. Can’t remember who though. But it sort of stuck with me because once I read that, I could see it a bit. I believe he has potential.
Mary, I heart you for this comment.
Wow its sad that the same nasty, uneducated people keep posting on all articles about Rob. The did it with Bel Ami, Cosmopolis, and now this. First of all, Remember Me and Water for Elephants tripled their budgets at the box office which in todays movie business is a BIG deal. Second, if the criteria for some on here for a great director is an Oscar, than you have eliminated 90% of all directors. The director of this movie won a presigious award at Cannes. Most films dont even make it to Cannes so that is a big deal. Also Cronenberg is one of the most respected directors in the business. He is respected by ALL areas of the business. Third, this movie is a BIG deal. It is about one of the most important accomplishments of the modern US military and being offered the lead in a momentous accomplishment. So I suggest all the haters who hate just for the sake of hating get educated from now on before they make any further comments which embarrass themselves.
He is OK (not spectacular) in his native accent but in an American accent? Bleh. Stiff, stiff, stiff. Too bad it looks like he is playing an American again in this.
Wow! Another new and interesting role for Rob!
This sounds like an amazing movie. I love Erik Jendresen, and I’m sure this will be great. An interesting role for Robert Pattinson; I’m excited to see it.
Ug…… why him? will there be sparkly vampires in it?
If there are no sparking vampires, I refuse to watch it.
Gotta give it to him though. This dude makes interesting choices. I saw him in Cosmopolis trailer. It looked sick! If he delivers there and here, I’ll forget Twilight. Everybody needs to eat and pay their bills.
I’ve been of the opinion that Cosmopolis will be the film in which people sit up and take notice of Robert Pattinson’s talent and that it will be the stepping stone to stardom. Now with his being chosen to star in Mission: Blacklist, I think we can assume this film could very well lead to superstar status for Mr. Pattinson.
I absolutely agree with this statement! Cosmopolis looks awesome and I’m truly hoping for the best here.
lol, rob pattinson and kristen stewart are about two of the only actors that i see that can bring out the most viciousness in people for no reason. it’s kinda funny, because every time there is news out about them you can guarantee that the haters of them are going to make themselves well known.
They bring out the most viciousness in people because they can’t act! They get cast in movies in the hope that they can bring their retarted Twilight fanbase to their new projects. Hasn’t happened yet.
nice….
If you are going to use a politically incorrect word to describe a group of people, please learn how to spell it correctly or you may be taken for one of them yourself.
That’s not true. Than he would do blockbusters and not art movies like Bel Ami or films like Remember Me. People in the industry can see that he’s talented. Twilight means a risk because his fans aren’t Twilight fans. Twilight fans only want him as Edward. They aren’t the ones who follow his career or go watching his other movies and the people who cast him know that. But they still cast him because they have faith in him. Like David Cronenberg did for Cosmopolis.
why do jerky ass people get down on twilight or twilight fans. I am 30 years old so I am not just a star crazed teen. And guess what I love twilight, and can’t wait for the last one to come out. Really I did not even know who Robert Pattinson was until I watched the first one and I love them all never read any of the books but I will be sure to see any movie that he makes people say he has no talent but I think he has loads of it and not just acting he can also make beautiful music so I hope all these haters and losers, that are completely just jealous of him can sit and spin they don’t have to watch the movie but give him break and let us people who will most definitly watch and love any movie he is in. GO ROB Twilight would not have got a second glance from me if not for him and let’s be honest there wouldn’t be a series at all without our handsome Robert Pattinson.
Who would have thought I was going to follow the career of Robert Pattinson after Twilight, seriously this young actor knows what he’s doing, I’m excited to see “Cosmopolis” and now this film. If this continues I’ll be a fan for life
what makes me happy about this film is jendresen. i love band of brothers.
You know what really gets me is people say hes an awful actor based on the twlight films and most of these people are men.. I think maybe you should realize the other films didnt do as well is because there comparing him to twilight. Not fair give the man a chance. I think he is brilliant! And cant wait to see what he does next!
It’s not only Twilight. He sucked in Remember Me and the elephant movie too. He’s had many chances to prove himself. He got bad reviews for both performances outside Twilight. He simply can’t act. Deal with it, twihards.
Its a lie. Reviews are mixed. And hes absolutely different in each role. I like his acting since The Haunted Airman … Toby Jugg.
Did you watch his acting as Salvador Dali??? He was amazing! Did you watch anything except ‘Twilight’, ‘Remember Me’ and ‘Water for Elephants’? You are envious about his fame!
He was good in Water for Elephants. He gets some positive reviews for this movie and the bad ones were full so Twilight. These films are the reason why critics can’t say a good thing about his acting. But Cosmopolis seems so change that. He only gets positive reviews so far. But that’s just because of David Cronenberg right?
No thanks. This has a no name director and Robert-I can’t act my way out of a paper bag-Pattinson. A movie about military interrogations in Iraq; don’t we already get enough of that watching the nightly news? Most people aren’t sitting on pins and needles waiting to go see a movie about current events.
Cronenberg seems to think he can act, so I would think he is worth a second look. Unless you are a better judge than a highly respected director…?
Your comment might mean something to me if I actually cared about Cronenberg, but seeing as I don’t like his types of films, and the fact he’s never won an Oscar or had a film that made much money at the box office, again I say I could care less.
You care less but you keep commenting here….
An actor just making a movie, why do you need to be so negative? Not every movie is aim for box office (especially this is not produce by big name) or Oscar.
Also, don’t insult a director when you have never watched his movie. He is in this industry for so long, definitely he is respectable.
We the audience make the determination if an actor or a performance is good or not. I don’t care what Cronenberg or any director says. The proof is up on the screen. So far everything Pattinson has done has sucked.
LOL
in total on the contrary
@ Mary Agree with your comment. I’ve seen Water for Elephant and he is a weak point in that movie. Never seen Twiligh though because I don’t prefer sparkly vampires.
So don’t watch his movies, dear Mary
LOL exactly. All this hate – no one’s forcing them to see his movies.
If you think everything Rob has been in sucked, that’s your opinion. That’s why they make chocolate and vanilla. However, being he has brought in so much money on a handful of films, and has premiers attended by thousands…. looks like others have a different opinion. You deal with it. Millions of people enjoy his acting!
Hilarious. And what Cronenberg could say? “Hey people. This is my new movie and my actor sucks. He was very bad”… Every actor and director praises their co-star. Did you heard how Charlize Theron praises Stewart? It doesn’t mean that Kristen suddenly becomes talented. Or every celebrity occasionally praises Lindsy Lohan and says that she is talented actress. That’s what they do in showbiz. Thwy constantly praise each other.
Kristen is very talented!!! Just watch her in the movie with J.Foster or ‘In the wild’ with S.Penn, or the movie where she is a stripteaser. Don’t judge actors if you didn’t see their early movies. Kristen is a genious actress.
Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003 and hanged in 2006 hardly current events, genius.
It’s all roped into 9/11 and the war on terror. The war in Iraq just ended. We’re still at war in Afghanistan. Almost every single movie dealing with these topics has bombed. Pattinson has no appeal outside of Twilight, can’t act and the director is an unknown.
Thank goodness Hollywood has you to listen to. Too bad Fincher didn’t have your counsel when he made The Social Network or Katherine Bigelow when she made The Hurt Locker. You could have saved them the trouble with your wisdom about current events. Actually, why don’t you stop Bigelow now before she makes a huge mistake with that Bin Laden mess.
E, Funny that you call someone a “no name director” when you yourself can’t even post your own name. Maybe irony is to “current” for you to grasp
Movies dealing with military current events have almost all bombed. The Hurt Locker was a critical success, but that was the exception.
The Social Network, dealing with a website, is not really comparable.
Pattinson may still need to prove to many that he can act, but I think he’s proven that atleast he can make smart choices.
Most reasonable post on here. He’s making some varied, good choices in terms of his roles. I’m not a fan, but I can respect that. I’m a bit puzzled as to why a Brit in his mid 20s was chosen to play the part of a buff, American from Oklahoma who was in his early 30s. Kid can beef up, but he still looks a little too young in my opinion for the role. I will be interested to see who will buy this at Cannes.
@L His name will draw a crowd of buyers so it’ll be interesting to see the result. This is a smart move for his career but he still needs to deliver the quality.
Robert has a lot of talent. He actually takes his work seriously unlike some actors that are continually attached to his rear. Robert has made successful movies, and he will continue to be the most successful at the box office. He already is.
Really? Why is he serious and other actors are not in your opinion? Have you been reading too many tabloids? And I can’t think of a single actor that’s attached to his rear (wtf does that even mean) unless you are thinking of Zac Efron. He’s fine, but stop comparing him to Gary Cooper (ridiculous) or trashing the other actors in his age group. That is why twi-hards are generally thought of as cray cray.
Robert Pattinson has become in a tabloid meat. Thanks to all those insaneTwihards, he has lost respect. For example: Cannes. How can you take seriously when many Twihards block Twitters and FB’s festival? How can you take seriously when those insane go to Cannes with a picture of a vampire that sparkles? He has to do is get rid of them because wherever you go, remind him that he has played a vampire. They are the ones that do not support it at the box office outside of Twilight. Rob needs a new audience and that will not happen until disposing of Twihards.
This is a role for an actor with presence. Can you realistically imagine Pattinson playing a though military interrogator? The vampire boy can’t act.
Point noted. You are entitled to your opinion but some people think otherwise, that’s why he is attached to this movie.
This is not going to be a big budget action movie, if Rob is not attached to this, many people may not know its existence. So Rob did attract attention to this movie and hopefully translate to the financing.
Amazing role. Great that they want to make this movie. Great director, actor, and writer. Great job Mr. Pattinson. Cosmopolis and now this. You are certainly choosing wisely. Cannot wait to see you in this.
Well, I guess the dude is still popular. I guess you either hate or love him. The premise sound interesting but I’m not gonna see it until some positive reviews for the movie. I’m already doubting if I’m gonna see Cronenberg’s movie this year and I’m a Cronenberg’s fan. Personally, I prefer Cronenberg/Mortensen team. Eastern Promises was aweseome and I heard sequel rumors before.
I am happy to see Rob working with a French director.
Actually Rob was compared to Montgomery Clift for Water for Elephants by a critic. It’s the costume maker who compared him to Gary Cooper. Well, all classical Hollywood actors made bad movies.
At least Rob is brave to take on an unexpected role. Rob has charisma and screen presence in abundance.
another stepping stone for a very intense actor, congratulation Rob
It’s so funny that everyone is saying that he gets cast just because people want to make money with his Twilight fame. Right because Remember Me was such a success and Bel Ami will be so good at the box office… And that’s why he’s doing all these big blockbusters… I think it’s clear that Twilight fans aren’t the ones who follow his carrier or watch his movies so they can’t be the reason why he gets cast. Just an example he got cast for Remember Me BEFORE Twilight was out:
“Honestly,” Coulter recalls of an early luncheon meeting with Pattinson, “he was not known, Twilight had not been released and there was no way to see it. We just knew he was interested. Sitting in front of us was a guy who was scruffy, intense, charming, unpretentious.
After lunch, Coulter told producer Nicholas Osborne: “I don’t know why but I have the instinct that this guy could do it.” It would also clinch the production deal because Summit would commit to the $16 million budget. “Clearly,” Coulter says now, “that’s not lost on a director. That certainly gets your attention. But, if we didn’t think he was right, we would have said no.”
But it’s still all just because of twilight, right?
The most weird thing is nobody is expecting batman fans to follow C.Bales’ movies,so why they are expecting Twi fans doing it with Roberts’movies?
THIS so much. No one of the Twilight fans will follow his movies. There is a huge difference between Rob and Twilight fans.
Rob is a wonderfully talented young man. He is well mannered, modest, handsome, & ubber talented. Ive enjoyed all his work. Yes i love Twilight, but i follow Robs career not Edwards. I can not stand it when people say his fans love him only as Edward because it ISNT true! Rob has more talent in his piano playing pinky then most people in their entire body!! If you dont like him then leave him & his sites alone!!
agreed 110% Love him and anything he does
i have posted 3 comments and they r not on here. anyway Pattinson is awesome in everything he does so haters need to quit hateing
