Fox will follow NBC in presenting its fall lineup tomorrow. But unlike the peacock network, which is overhauling its schedule with four nights of comedies, Fox is not expected to make drastic changes. The network would not comment, but I hear that it will stick to its plan to launch an all-comedy Tuesday night with Raising Hope, Ben & Kate, New Girl and Mindy Kaling’s It’s Messy. Glee, which anchored the Tuesday comedy block for the last two years, is rumored to be relocating to Thursday after X Factor. In its sophomore season, Kiefer Sutherland’s Touch may join Fringe on Fridays for a sci-fi-themed night, while new medical drama The Mob Doc drama looks Monday-bound, inheriting the night of Fox’s veteran medical drama House and possibly airing with Bones. As expected, given its 15-episode-a-season order, I hear Fox is holding back its highest-profile new series, the Kevin Bacon-starring The Following for midseason, along with new comedy The Goodwin Games.

Assuming that Greys Anatomy, The Office/Parks and Recreation, and POI (or 2 hour comedy block) stays where they are, thurdsays at 9/8 central will be a competitive time slot
Competitive? That’s some insight. You could have written this in 2007.
So two hour X-factor on Wednesday? Ugh.
All eyes are on TV in the fall. Once it’s starts warming up in the Midwest and East during mid-season viewership drops. Why on earth not launch The Following in the Fall? 15 straight episodes a la cable tv. And Glee to Thursdays? Why waste such valuable real estate on a show a heartbeat away from being irrelevant?
Doesn’t FOX still have MLB? If so, there’s no way that The Following could run without breaks or skewed airtimes.
Glee will be destroyed on Thursday night! Up against Greys, and the Vampire Diaries plus they won’t have all of there regular cast anymore what is FOX thinking?
Glee not having all of its regular cast is the reason of the move. They are not risking Glee without a lead-in. The Voice is the best they can offer. They are playing it safe. For Glee, at least.
The problem is the Wednesday comedy block. New Girl went from tent pole of the night to show that needs a lead-in in less than one season. Until last week it lost around 50% of the demo of the first episodes. Either the new shows are really good or they are going to have problems with that night.
You probably meant “X-Factor” since The Voice is on NBC.
It’s not up against The Vampire Diaries. That’s airs an hour earlier, at 8.
Glee isn’t going to stand a chance against Greys and TVD. RIP to my favorites Kurt, Finn and Rachel.
lol against the TVD? Really?
In case you haven’t heard, Vampire Diaries will be moving to Thursdays at 9pm. So it will in fact be facing it.
No TVD is at 8. Glee is scheduled for 9pm.
Sending Touch to the Friday night deathslot to die is a smart move. Won’t last anyway, why waste a good timeslot on it?
Holding The Following to midseason (like NBC is holding Hannibal to midseason or spring) leaves the serial killer field free to CW, for Cult. Good news for CW – all these serial killer shows could hurt each other because of overload. Oddly enough, Cult is the one I’m most looking forward to, despite not at all being the CW demographic.
Too bad they didn’t start Touch off on Friday; maybe The Finder would have had a chance.
Kiefer on Friday? Really?
Glee already airs opposite the #1 scripted show on TV, NCIS. As for The Vampire Diaries, it wouldn’t have lasted more than 13 episodes on any network other than The CW.
In response to Glee being killed on Thursdays,
Glee has a selective audience, I think the viewership may drop, but not drastically and hold out the rest of the season. But then again, you never know.
It has dropped some viewers but still popular. I think that the change will do Glee some good-bring in more adult viewers. The Glee club kind of ran its course with the desire of winning Nationals. Have to see how it has turned out this season. But more adult themes-college, life out on their own might be what the show needs now. Besides, there were too many characters to give each of them proper story line time for a season. I think thinning the principle cast down would give more leeway to story lines and subject content. Something I think the show needed alot.
Back to 9pm for Glee will be smart: riskier storylines as in first season, the move to 8 was great for the teenagers but restricted the show. Cutting the cast is also overdue – too many castmembers are weak actors and can’t carry storylines. A focus on Finn, Rachel and Kurt will allow strong storylines and if make their writing less clunky could work.
Solid, well thought out plays.
Yes, in my experience, a well thought-out plan yields the best results. That’s why I’ve always liked the ending of the film version of “The Firm”; the protagonist was sure to cover all of his bases, given every possible scenario.
So used to Glee being lead in for Tuesday. It always came in second after NCIS. So for a move to Thursday may be a wise thing to do. The voice will lead in for Glee and as being hour later this will give the show an opportunity to revise to more adult subject content. Much to my liking anyway.
I don’t get the desire for Vampire Diaries so to me there won’t be much competition for Glee at that time-slot. But if Grey’s Anatomy stays opposite Glee, Grey will be number 1 then Glee second. Same as on Tuesday. Hope so anyway.
Touch poor ratings justify its moving to Friday. But I doubt Touch is scheduled on Friday in fall. It’s probably meant in midseason, to take slot Fringe series finale opens around Christmas. Plus, thus Touch can serve as backup for case some Mon-Thu drama falls apart early.
Fox goes with Mob Doctor in fall for logistics reasons. It has 13 episodes order with possible 9 back order. It can’t reach 22 unless it starts in fall. It pushes The Following (13 to 15 episodes) to midseason, as it can’t reach 22 anyway.
It’s head scratching why Glee should be given good X-factor lead-in. Instead, Fox should try launching new comedies there. Especially now that it’s clear CBS is not expanding comedies into that slot. 4th season show Glee should be able to stand alone. If not – no problem, let it die peacefully.
I think it’s more of a case that the craptacularly awful The X-Factor needs a good lead-out than Glee needs a good lead-in. Moreover, if I were at Fox, I’d schedule X-Factor to *follow* Glee rather than the other way around.
Do you people not know how to read a schedule? The Voice is on NBC, X Factor would be Glee’s lead-in. And Vampire Diaries airs at 8, while Glee would air at 9.
Overall, this is a pretty strong schedule, since there’s little room to play with, due to Sunday animation shows being locked and X Factor coming back.
I was about to post this! Everyone seems to not know what airs on what network on what time.
I find people confusing ‘The Voice’ with ‘The X-Factor’ hilarious. It’s all the same tired crap anyway.
Forget the day, keep glee at 8 so kids can watch before having to go to bed
They are making GLEE for kids now?
What’s going on Wednesdays? I think it’s a waste to have “X” and “Idol” go to 9:30 or even 10:00. I could see why the network might be reluctant to put two comedies there, but why not a drama?
What happened to FOX being FOX an exciting network. Seems like The CW has those shows now.
Fox should have picked up Untitled Karen Usher
Certainly along the line with iother shows that have worked. Audiences love Julian McMahon and Angela Bassett is superb. Does not sound like they thought this no brained out!
Thats not entirely true. True, their numbers were down, but topped all lead-ins the entire
Season save for one week, when Glee had its tribute to Whitney Houston. Therefore, it’s not New Girl’s fault. It was a lead-in fault. Hopefully, they will be better supported going forward. Hard to keep momentum with lead-ins like “I Hate My Teenage Daughter”.
Not content with Fringe stinking it up on Friday, Fox now sacrifices Touch. Too bad. Fringe is at least on its last legs, but Touch had a chance to grow. Paired with crappy old Fringe, it’ll probably get dragged down into ratings oblivious. Hope this rumor isn’t true.
NCIS is #1 in viewers but not in the demo. Greys is #1 in demo of every drama on tv right now and chances are it shares more demo with Glee than NCIS.
Glee and Greys are my two favorite shows but if I have to choose, sorry Glee, if will be Greys all the way.
