Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are going to be packing heat. The duo have signed up to do a cop buddy movie. Bridesmaids Paul Feig will direct the as yet untitled project. Katie Dippold of Parks and Recreation acclaim is writing the screenplay. The movie details the strained working relationship between an uptight FBI agent, played by Oscar winner Bullock, and an unconventional Boston cop, played by Oscar nominee McCarthy. The movie is bit of a reunion for Feig and McCarthy, who worked together on 2011 comedy hit Bridesmaids. Feig will executive produce. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Dylan Clark will produce the Fox distributed film. Dippold is repped by WME and 3 Arts. Feig, McCarthy and Bullock are all repped by CAA.

Love the people involved, but “will write the script?” That’s why even successful movies have terrible RT scores. How is someone supposed to write something great in a few months? It’s great when people make money, but people like Chernin could make money on Wall Street. How about looking for a great spec and plugging this talent into that?
Granted, all the specs I get aren’t funny or even passable, so maybe that explains it.
It was a spec, and a very good one at that.
Hardly a good script. In fact, not a strong comedy script whatsoever.
Maybe it’s being punched up now or something. But the draft that sold was very mediocre. Not a laugh to be had in the first 20 pages.
I can see why Bullock signs on to this one. Kind of amazed that McCarthy does though. I’d think she’d be seeing considerably stronger comedic material. But who knows.
You must be comedy-deaf. The script I read was great, there were 2-3 solid jokes per page. But I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree about the meaning of the word “good.”
Then you sir are an easy comedy lay.
There are a lot of great comedy scripts out there. And some solid female comedies, no less. This isn’t one of them.
Hey, would love to read this script. Anybody willing to share a copy? I’d be forever indebted. Anybody? Would love to read the script.
What was the name of the spec? Did Katie Dippold write it?
Dying is easy, comedy is hard, Mr. Crankypants.
Sounds fantastic! What do you mean bit of a reunion — it does reunite them
WME writes them, CAA packages them, again.
Got the perfect title. Let’s call it “$213,000,000 Domestic”
Or how about MISS CONGENIALITY 3: EVEN CONGEALIER?
Heck yeah…can’t wait. Love me some Sandra Bullock!
Hot Fuzz in drag?
Kudos to Ms. McCarthy.
She’s fantastic. Can’t wait to see her in a lead role like this.
(And that Bullock broad ain’t too bad either.)
Way to go, ladies.
So, you’re my new paaaht-ner, eh? You like the Sox?
It’s partner, you Beantown moron. And I’m a Yankee fan.
That’s it, it’s go-time!
Melissa McCarthy is great ill watch her in anything
Love me some Sandra Bullock. Also love the fact that Melissa McCarthy has become a full-fledged, Oscar-nominated movie star. Nice.
This director keeps attaching himself to every film out there. Try actually making one with Judd Apatow holding your hand. It’s going to be hard. At least you’ll still have your quirky suits. LOL.
Correction: WITHOUT Judd Apatow holding your hand.
Commentators on this website need to get a grip. Seriously, as a certified physician I prescribe everyone that negatively commented on this clearly amazing package to head on down to the grip store and get one. I hear there’s a sale in the bitter, unemployed aisle.
Hope it’s funnier than Bridesmaids, not too great if you ask me.
Amen. I hated that movie. Loved the concept and hoped it would be great, but what an overrated piece of garbage. That looked like they were shooting Kristin Wiig’s first draft. Somebody needed to come in there and trim the fat add some funny material…
Oh, what the hell. The film was a huge hit. It even got an Oscar nomination for the script! I still can’t believe that one.
But, I hated it.
I took note of a script that Katie Dippold wrote for Parks and Recreation once, and it was really sharp and funny. I bet the script for the cop/buddy movie will be great, with stars like Bullock and McCarthy, especially.
Get ready for some major production polishes. They’ll be re-writing this one as they film it. Probably have another 9 or 10 writers before it’s done shooting.
