BREAKING: Act Of Valor co-director Scott Waugh has been offered the job of directing Need For Speed, the DreamWorks adaptation of the EA video game. George and John Gatins developed the story with George Gatins writing the script. These talks have been going on for weeks, though DreamWorks has been denying all along that this was any more than “an idea,” as recently as two days ago. I’m told they are a ways from agreeing on money, so nothing is firm, but it clearly is more than an idea. Waugh and his Bandito Brothers cohorts are repped by WME. Need For Speed was the first major project expenditure that DreamWorks made once the company came out of suspended animation while waiting for Reliance to invest cash in a re-up.

Dworks is just so sad. Sourian & Co. couldn’t (over)develop a hit to save their lives. From IM#4 to C&A, their latest offerings are a joke. Nothing good. Nothing memorable. Yeah, okay, The Help. There’s one.
Need For Speed should be another piece of memorable and financially successful moviemaking in the current DreamWorks tradition.
In what way was “She’s Out of My League” a sample worthy of hiring George Gatins to pen a racing flick? Yikes. Good luck with that, DreamWorks.
Why do we need this? We already have this franchise. It is called The Fast and The Furious.
video game movies will be the next big blockbuster wave. auds are turning off noise on wannabe franchises like battleship and john carter. vid games will be next comic books. this is smart for dreamworks.
