Looks great, but why can’t they use the theme music to get us really excited? It’s no faux pas to incorporate one of the most iconic themes ever… Leaves me wanting more, and not in a good way.
Valid point. It looks like just about ANY action film, doesn’t it?
If I didn’t know beforehand that this trailer was for a Bond film, I might have never guessed (even with Judi Dench’s presence).
YES PLEASE!!
Very underwhelming trailer…
A very standard trailer, manufactured along standard lines… quick glimpses of stuff, with big hits of music to make them seem more amazing, surging to loud bang at the end. But somehow, I’m not thrilled.
Looks good. Looks like a lot of the same, but also different enough. Looking forward to this one.
This film shall be Badass.
Extremely Badass
Bond is BACK!
oh god. somebody forgot to tell mendes it is not ‘apocalypse now’ it is a ‘bond’ film and it should be fun to watch.
Can I say HOLY SHIT! on this site?
WOW…that was weak as hell. Not gonna see that crapfest.
If this Deadline post were a Bond film, you’d be the villain. Or at least an evil henchperson.
Yes please!Can’t wait.
007 Bond is back. SkyFall seems to be making none of the same mistakes as Quantum of Solace – not a bad film, but disasppointing given what fans expected because of the high-brow quality of Casino Royale. The trailer can be summed up by one word: foreboding. That’s NOT a word common to Bond movies but I believe it’s going to work.
Without publishing my disatribe comparing “Quantum of Solace” with “Casino Royale”, I must disagree with you.
On the contrary, “Casino Royale” was low-brow; that’s why it was so embraced by the lowest common denominator – the general audience. “Quantum of Solace”, on the other hand, was much more intelligently written and sophisticatedly executed, with less pandering to the masses; hence, its immediate dismissal by the new “Bourne”-conditioned audience.
Oh, give me a break. ‘Solace’ was a victim of circumstance: Craig says that he and Forster were the only ones allowed to touch the script as a result of the writer’s strike, which explains why there action sequences every five minutes.
I’m there… That looks awesome…
I was excited for this, but the trailer was very ho hum. I was expecting a tad more intense action scenes.
Hell yes!
God bless you, Sam Mendes! You are my hero. This film will absolutely kick arse!
Sam Mendes directing, Roger Deakins on DP duty and Javier Bardem as baddie…can’t wait!
I second this (I’m particularly delighted about Roger shooting a Bond film).
Looks stylish and well-directed. ‘Quantum of Solace’ was lacking in many areas: narrative coherence, clearly-defined emotional and physical stakes, visual atmosphere, a certain Britannia, personality. Everything about this trailer screams ‘big’ (the size, not the film). This time around, all the money seems to be up on the screen.
It looks like they dissed that Jason Bourne gritty junk from Quantum of Solace. I like the Bourne movies but they aren’t at the level of Bond. More like a nice BMW (Jason Bourne) versus a Ferrari (Bond). No comparison.
I love it. It looks completely
original from the other ones and I’ve watch ALL OF THEM once a year
on the Bond Thanksgiving Day Marathon.
The locations look like From Russia
With Love. Only this version is much more serious looking. Love the
new locations over the gutter stuff from Quantum Leap oh I mean
Quantum of Solace.
I’m hoping that this one takes
espionage and plot mystery to a level never before seen in a Bond
movie. From looking at the trailer it looks like it’s their
intention.
Bond killing everyone in sight and
having an even more solid romance story than Casino Royale just might
make this the best Bond film ever. Or am I hoping to much… lol
Oh, I hope he finally becomes more
sophisticated since he certainly looks a little older since Casino
Royale. With still that Craig brut “kick ars” nature of
course.
Can’t wait. The subway crash & all those coffins were very interesting.
Hell it even has what seems to be a whole lot of horrible Beetles getting smashed up.
CAN’T WAIT!
Neither shaken or stirred.
That has a very Dark Knight vibe to it. Feels like they watched all the trailers for the three Batman movies over and over, then tried to replicate it, down to the music. They even ditched the traditional James Bond theme music.
Interesting comparison, as Christopher Nolan has made no secret of the fact he’d rather be doing Bond than Batman.
Your attention span is severely lacking.
This is not replicating TDKR in any way. And the “traditional James Bond theme music” was NOT ditched. It´s there at the end of the teaser. Listen before commenting.
I did listen. Twice. The traditional music isn’t there. No James Bond music, no hot babes, two typical elements of a Bond trailer. And the white tiled room with the one-way mirror where Bond is being interviewed at the beginning of the trailer looks quite a bit like the white bricked room where Batman interogates Heath Ledger’s Joker.
Of course, the Bond theme is there.
How can you not notice it?
Mistaken attribution. The homogenized sound design for action trailers today is directly attributed to composer Zack Hemsey’s trailer music for Inception. That track’s influence in trailer world has been huge, even unscrupulously copied by composer Steve Jablonsky for his TRANSFORMERS 3 score (see http://zackhemsey.blogspot.com/2011/07/its-our-fight-bysteve-jablonsky.html).
Originality aside, this is a cool teaser for its menacing vibe, if a little underwhelming versus the phenomenal teasers for the previous two Bonds.
I’m just glad Bond is back.
Looks great! Can’t wait to see Shanghai scenes!
Shanghi via the back lot at Pinewoood.
Only true foreign location is Istanbul.
After the money pit that was Quantum Of Solace I’m glad that financial constraints appear to have forced the producers to craft a better Bond film that relies on story and character rather than outrageously expensive (and utterly forgettable) set pieces.
Even as a non Bond fan I really like the look of this.
Somebody please fire Daniel Craig and hire Michael Fassbender. Everyone is tired of Bond looking and acting like an ex-con. Bond is supposed to be the epitome of suave and sophistication for crissakes!
“Bond is supposed to be the epitome of suave and sophistication”
That’s what I thought as well. I have nothing against Daniel Craig, but he just seems an odd choice to portray James Bond.
I like Craig. He’s a great Bond.
Your’re in the minority…Only Sean Connery’s better
Looks very foreboding – almost un-bond like. Could be another big step away from the ‘traditional’ bond films as Casino Royale was. Quantum of Solace was fantastic in tone, execution and theme and totally different that Casino Royale. SkyFall could be another complete tonal difference. Way to go EON!
