EXCLUSIVE: Saturday Night Live cast member Taran Killam will spend his hiatus doing a prominent movie. He’ll join the cast of Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave, which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Paul Dano. The film shoots this summer in New Orleans for New Regency. Bill Pohlad’s River Road and Plan B are producing. Killam will play a traveling showman who abducts a free black man (Ejiofor) and brings him South, where he is sold into slavery and endures a brutal 12 years. Killam joined SNL two years ago. With Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and perhaps Jason Sudeikis exiting, Killam has an opportunity to become the show’s next breakout star. He is repped by CAA and Principato-Young.

Except he’s not nearly funny enough to be “the next breakout star” of SNL.
Good for him ! Taran is the best new SNL cast member, and he can go toe to toe with the wonderful Bill Hader & Kristen Wiig.
The guy’s funny — give him a shot, magpies!
congrats to taran! he is one of the most talented and sweet people i know! woo-hoooooo!
This guy seems poised to be the next Will Ferrell, so it’s intriguing to see him land this role, as its completely unexpected. Good for him, I look forward to seeing his star rise in Hollywood
Taran IS funny, and also one of the sweetest, nicest guys to work on the show in a long time. I’ve been there for almost 20 years and he is truly one of the good ones.
Taran is a phenomenal performer, looking forward to this
Why does a comedian do a movie about slavery?
In fact, why does anyone do it?
Seriously, only two foreigners would think this film is going to be popular. American are too guilty and in denial to see it and Black people? We run from these movies.
