Movie trailers are almost a commodity now, turning up in numerous places online, so movie companies must do something special to make theirs stand out. Having compelling footage helps, but Universal‘s Snow White And The Huntsman has gone a further step, releasing an interactive trailer that offers viewers behind-the-scenes clips, trivia about the movie and various features. Of course there’s an upsale at the end too, encouraging viewers to buy advance tickets. The movie opens wide June 1.

Universal has had so many flops and losses that this movie is their last hope. I feel like they’re overdoing the promo for Snow White though. I’ve been seeing tv spots and trailers for this thing since last November.
Flops really? Safe house, lorax, American pie all have grossed over 200 million worldwide. Contraband made money. Five year engagement just got released at a bad time (1 week before Avengers).
Battleship is the only one that didn’t perform as expected, but it should finish over 300 million + dvd/blu ray and tv showings. They have had a good year. Don’t knock them for no reason idiot.
On topic, Snow White looks pretty cool. Almost everyone at my school is talking about it. Hopefully Rupert Sanders can pull it off. He deserves the success
always nice to see someone call someone an idiot.
Yeah erm no. With promo costs included Safe House did not break even and Five Year Engagement + Battleship bombed.
And this movie is fecking horrible. Universal had the scathing reviews deleted in less than an hour following the London premiere. Should be interesting to see how long they can keep this under wraps before the inevitable terrible WOM kicks in. This baby is gonna fall like a rock after OW.
BATTLESHIP will likely break even or come out just over profitability after all is accounted for (incl. DVD/BD sales, toys, VOD, etc).
This is too complicated. I gave up after 30 seconds. This is the YouTube generation, we need a quick fix.
The interface is poorly designed, but the concept is fine. Even for the YouTube generation! Just don’t confuse them, they’re easily confused.
Charlize really brought out the coolness and awesomeness in this that it makes me wanna see it. The trailers are superb!
The UI on this trailer is a little off. Took me awhile to figure out how it works, and can’t understand why the “video”, “fact”, “discussion” or “map” doesn’t just pop up below when an new que marker hits since the space stays empty for it the whole time. I had to scroll back a couple times to find certain marks that were only up for a second or two. Might make for repeat immersive viewing and tracking engagement across clicks/mouse hovering, but if you get someone to watch 50% of that content, you’ve done your job, so why make it harder for them to enjoy the content. It’s like 1/2 what used to be DVD bonus footage all jammed into one interactive trailer. I’m impressed. Gotta admit, the digital agency that produced this is doing great work, but still think it could be improved slightly for future “interactive” trailers.
I have to admit this hooked me, but I’ve been a sucker for useless facts since pop up video. These new interactive trailers satisfy my need for more input and button clicking all at once. Kudos to the marketing team.
I thought it was very thorough and kinda fun. Makes me wanna see it!
Its kinda but, sooo last season
