Upcoming contemporary thriller series Hannibal will be broadcast on Sony Pictures Television’s AXN networks in 18 languages across 63 countries. Production is expected to start in late July on the 13-episodes that trace the early relationship of Thomas Harris’s legendary character, Hannibal Lecter, and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler. Hugh Dancy is playing the FBI agent. Gaumont International Television is producing in association with SPT Networks. Bryan Fuller exec produces and David Slade directs. NBC has already picked up the series to air mid-season with a near day-and-date release set across AXN’s footprint.

Glad to hear this show’s being picked up. I’m not immensely taken in by the whole concept, but generally speaking if Bryan Fuller’s involved I’m interested. Now I just hope they pick up Mockingbid Lane, because Fuller’s style and the Munsters sound like a perfect match.
If they don’t have Anthony Hopkins, or Brian Cox as Lecter, then this is a pointless production. They’re just wiping their own asses with their money.
It’s baffling how much money has lined up around this project given that they have yet to cast the title role. If the script is so good, why has that key piece of package taken so long to complete? Something’s fishy here.
They don’t make ‘em any duller than Hugh Dancy – talk about someone who’s had way to many chances….
Meanwhile, Lifetime is developing the series CLARICE, which will follow Clarice Starling post LAMBS pre HANNIBAL. The horror…
David Slade is the one who’s going to make this one work.
I’m thinking they must know who is going to play Hannibal already – that will be what sells this – can’t wait to find out!
Is there really any more blood to be taken from this stone?
Yeah, no they don’t. Not even close.
