The CW today gave early renewals to its three strongest scripted series: flagship The Vampire Diaries, veteran Supernatural and 90210. The Vampire Diaries will return for its its fourth season, 90210 for its fifth and Supernatural for its eighth. There are no surprises in the pickups as all three had been certain to return. Of the network’s bubble shows – Gossip Girl, Nikita, The Secret Circle, Ringer and Hart Of Dixie – the bets are on Gossip Girl, Hart Of Dixie and possibly Nikita coming back. Gossip Girl is a big DVR gainer and has been a signature show for the CW that could go well together with Carrie Diaries, Hart Of Dixie has been very strong in online viewing, and Nikita is a big international seller for the CW’s sister studio Warner Bros TV. Further complicating things for Ringer, which already had little chance of continuing with its low ratings and dense-bordering-on-confusing storylines, is the fact that star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who plays two roles on the show, is pregnant. (Unless both twin sisters fell pregnant at the same time.) Word is the CW will also pick up as many as 5-6 new series, with Arrow, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty & The Beast, First Cut, Cult and the Hunger Games-esque The Selection considered frontrunners. The network is said to be looking to have a lot more originals on the air throughout a season next season.

I love Nikita. I mean, how rare is it that you can take a really good action movie and adapt it into a really good TV series 7 years later and then come back and adapt it into another really good TV series 20 years later without either of them feeling like retreads? All 3 projects feel like they’re the same thing, yet they are very different beasts. I really hope Nikita gets to go past 2 seasons.
I really wouldn’t call the American version of the Nikita movie good, or the original series either for that matter. But the original French film set out an incredible premise, and the current series has finally done it justice. The old series, which was campy, blatantly Canadian, and filled with terrible acting and action, ran for 5 seasons. The current series has none of those problems, and I would be appalled if this one ends after just 2 years.
I recommend you watch the last three episodes as well as tonight’s. Power and Wrath are some of Nikita’s greatest episodes IMO (especially Power – my personal favourite episode yet).
Nikita’s a great show, but for whatever reason the ratings aren’t that great. Could be because the majority of the CW’s audience cares for the love-related storylines and Nikita focuses more on storytelling and action.

The CW may get a lot of boycotts from angry viewers if they take away all our favorite shows like Ringer and Nikita and try to shove a bunch of new shows in our face.
Frankly I don’t care about a bunch of new shows with new characters they want me to get hooked on, just so they can cancel them, too!
Let us have the shows we love, if I have to pick one I pick my favorite Ringer, but I’d rather have the shows we love than throwing out all of them and starting over with 5-6 new shows. I’m sick of networks getting us invested in shows and characters and storylines and then canceling them.

Me, too. Nikita is an amazing show and it’s a pity it doesn’t get higher ratings because it definitely deserves them. I’d been expecting cancellation but this is giving me hope. Fingers crossed it gets a third season.
I would absolutely love, love, love if they brought back HART OF DIXIE. It’s such a fun, light show, easy to watch as I do things around the house…there so much talent on that show.

NIKITA is CW. Without NIKITA CW is non existent
Lol, what? Nikita has been on for what, two years and it’s CW? That is not even remotely true. The only show I watch on this network is Hart of Dixie. I thought i’d never watch CW ever again after Smallville said it’s final good bye. Point is, Supernatural IS CW. I’m not even a fan of Supernatural and I know this. I haven’t watched Supernatural since…well season 1. Nikita is not well known. I completely forgot that it even is on anymore. For a show that makes CW, it sure fails at actually making an impact on non-viewers.
Also, the Vampire Diaries is very well known, which also sort of represents CW. I wish Hart of Dixie did, but it doesn’t.
I’m hoping for a renewal for “The Secret Circle”. The writing has been on the wall about “Ringer” for awhile, and I can’t see them renewing “Nikita” after multiple 0.4 ratings in the demo…
To be fair, this is the CW we’re talking about. It seems like the majority of the CW tune in for love-focused storylines (except SPN, who have a big following and a fanbase lasting 7 years). Both Nikita and Ringer have focused more on the story and action so it may not appeal to this audience.
Nikita is one of the few shows on the CW that cater to a really big audience – males and females of many ages, and has an international following. I’m not saying Nikita’s a certain renewal – I’m actually preparing myself for its cancellation – but I just think it deserves better than it’s getting.
Please bring back Hart of Dixie. The show became my guilty pleasure. Such an sweet fun show.

I would renew Heart of Dixie, Secret Circle, and Nikita. I love all three. I stopped watching Gossip Girl after a few seasons because I found that I recorded it and never felt like watching it. The same thing has happened with Ringer…I have about 10 episodes on the DVR to watch but can’t get around to doing it. The other three shows I look forward to watching every week.

If you forget about a show or don’t feel like catching up, it’s likely the show just doesn’t appeal anymore. I stopped watching Chuck, Castle, Parenthood and a few others. I don’t ever feel like catching up like I do for: Hart of Dixie, Once Upon a Time, New Girl and Glee. I catch The Walking Dead & Fringe as they air on my TV. The rest I just watch on Hulu when they come out.
90210 is awful! The only redeeming quality that show “had” was the gay character story line of Teddy. They lost a huge chunk of viewers when they lost that story line. If they want even the slightest success in Season 5, they’d be smart to incorporate that character somehow. Although perhaps the show is beyond saving at this point. Love The Vampires Diaries, but the “originals” are grating on my last nerve, give them a spin off, there’s too many characters and so many are useless and non likable. Never saw 1 episode of Supernatural.
Well, the good thing about Season 4 was Ivy and Raj.
I don’t want the CW regularly — My favorite shows are The Good Wife, Mad Men, Modern Family, Breaking Bad, etc. but for some reason I ended up watching 90210 at the start of season 2 and I was hooked. It was GOOD. REALLY GOOD. It sounds unlikely but it’s true… Some rotten acting and most of the quote unquote ‘teenagers’ were in their thirties, from what I could see. But the writing was quirky and unexpected and FUNNY. I watched that whole season and season 3 but for some reason this season ISN’T THE SAME. It’s like the writers stopped being original and weird and tongue in cheek and started copying their stories out of some tv playbook. WHAT HAPPENED?? And can they go back to their weird ways — Jasper, Gay Teddy, Guru Sana, Naomi as the Avatar.
TSC will be likely cancelled, Nikita will bel likely renewed because of its international success.
Tommy you are not looking at the big picture at all. Nikita is a sophmore show on fridays only 0.1 under TSC demo. How do you really think it would do on a friday night where many people are out and going to the movies watching Hunger Games and Avengers

This is the most logical scenario. If TSC is renewed, it’s going to be moved to Fridays. If it can only manage a .5 after the highest rated CW drama(and Nikita had a much better retention last year), it would probably fall even further on Fridays. Nikita is more likely to be renewed, in my opinion

It’s likely Ringer & Secret Circle will not be renewed. So pretty much everything the CW tried this season will have been awful like hater,remodeled and so on. The failures would be Ringer,Secret Circle,the soon to be cancelled LA Complex. The only show that may be renewed is Hart of Dixie. They should pick it up as it would be a success(sorta) & is better than some of their other programming.

I think Nikita will and should be cancelled, it’s had four 0.4s and 6-7 by seasons end.Cw will more of a joke and laughingstock if it renews it.I like Nikita though.I want GG, SC, HoD renewed. I don’t understand why they’d cancel Ringer but keep Nikita when they’ve both had 0.4-0.5. for second half of the season and why renew Nikita but cancel SC when SC has done much better in ratings than Nikita. People hate on cw /dawn Ostroff for renewing GG yearly despite less than great ratings but it never hit a 0.4 yet and it’ll be the same thing if Mark Pedowitz renews Nikita.Nikita will have 0.2 or lower this time next year if renewed .

SMG earned $2.2M pretax $$$ from Ringer, plus any she $$$ she earned from her co-producer credit. I doubt the Prinz family will be living on the street. I read several SMG interviews in December and January (I think) where she was saying she put her family over her career and that is a wonderful opinion to hold.

Its a wonderful show & has a very devoted fanbase even if small. Its been getting better every single episode & you don’t have to watch the awesomeness then.
I was into Nikita until they shifted direction in the second season with Michael joining Nikita on the run, looking for Percy’s black boxes. I liked the first season set-up with Nikita on the run, Michael chasing her, and Nikita’s mole inside Division.
Here’s hoping for a renewal but realistically its ratings are in the basement, and it’s not a big DVR gainer like Gossip Girl.

I love The Secret Circle and Ringer, I really hope they bring both shows back!! At least Vampire Diaries has been renewed! I’ve been an avid GG watcher for years, but they’re starting to run out of storylines.
oh no CW is my fave channel and i watch every show listed minus supernatural. Have watched the first to eps of girls and can’t say i will be watching anymore as it’s not my cup of tea.

Hart of dixie is a nice family show, it’s funny, romantic, heart warming and entertaining so i really don’t want to see it end. I was a huge fan of the o.c and it’s nice to see rachael bilson back on t.v.
ringer is awsum too, not sure why viewer’s find it confusing? They are meant to be identical twins. One is on the run, the other is out for revenge. Whats so confusing about that? They show you who is who all the time so your always aware of which twins is who.
As for gossip girl though, i do think it’s time they put that show to bed. They are all suppose to be grown ups, living as adults but not one of those characters are doing so. They all still run around like teeniboppa’s sleeping with each other’s partners/ex’s and the writer’s for this season have been adding in the most ridiculous storylines. This season made gossip girl lose it’s credibility!
I have to agree with you although I don’t watch nakita I can see why others like it, and it appears to be well filmed. As for gossip girl it lost its way in season three; and quiet frankly has just been telling the same stories just moving around the characters. who has blare dated and chuck gone nuts about; with a few crazier storyline thrown in. And lets face how many times can sabrene play the wounded spoiled princess it was tired after season 2; haven’t they run out of things for her to throw her tantrums over yet I know I stopped caring after season three. Then again like i said its all the same stories they just switched the characters around.
I hope they renew Hart Of Dixie, after TVD, it is my favourite show on the CW.
They could easily cancel just 2 shows and have five new hours on in the fall if they do what has been talked about and put GG on in midseason for final season like they did with One Tree Hill.

Ringer is not a confusing show if you pay attention to it, which as a viewer we are supposed to do. The fact that 90210 would get renewed over Ringer is a travesty. 90210 has been HORRIBLE this past season and really should end. Ringer is filled with twists that you would never expect, smart tv.
I love Ringer. It is a great show and should not be canceled. It doesn’t have “confusing” story plots. Really? Who can’t follow the story plot? Maybe if you haven’t been watching the series. It really isn’t THAT hard to catch up even if you haven’t watched every episode.
It gets a lot of online viewing, iTunes viewing and international audiences as well, so do not sell Ringer short!
