TNT has given a series order to Monday Mornings (formerly Chelsea General), a medical drama pilot from Emmy-winning writer-producer David E. Kelley and practicing neurosurgeon/CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, on whose book the project is based. The cable network has picked up 10 episodes for a premiere in summer 2013. The series, starring Ving Rhames and Alfred Molina, will air on TNT and Turner networks around the world. Monday Mornings was one of three pilots in contention for a series pickup heading into TNT’s upfront presentation next week. TNT yesterday passed on one, Western Tin Star, while the other, search-and-rescue procedural Scent Of The Missing, remains in contention. Word is TNT plans to shoot a few more procedural pilots and will make a decision after seeing all of them. The network applied similar strategy to Tin Star, which was shot last fall but held back to screen with the other two pilots. Meanwhile, Frank Darabont’s period pilot L.A. Noir is still filming. It will be evaluated on its own as a potential Sunday genre show for the network, which airs sci-fi drama Falling Skies on the night, and not with Scent and the group of procedural pilots TNT plans to order.
Monday Mornings, produced by TNT Originals and David E. Kelley Prods, stars Rhames, Molina, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, and Emily Swallow. “Monday Mornings is a superb drama brought to life with passion by a gifted ensemble cast and some of the best creative minds working in television today,” said TNT’s head of programming Michael Wright. “Set at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Ore., Monday Mornings follows the lives of doctors as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings. The title refers to the hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care. Kelley and Gupta serve as executive producers on the series. Kelley penned the pilot episode, which was directed and executive produced by Bill D’Elia.

oh good. we needed another medical show. Thanks TNT for your original programming. YAWN. I also saw that wonderful new reality show The Great Escape another one that will go into the TV hall of fame.
IS THERE ANYONE ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN AT THE NETWORKS? PLEASE
just watch and see…this writing, casting and crew magic. I know .I was there.
or don’t watch .yawn…
Well, it’s not like TNT does a lot of those. This is a different take and gives folks a look into an aspect of practicing medicine that most probably don’t know exists. I’m always amazed when people gripe about something before they even know what’s going on. A medical/hospital procedural is hardly descriptive. There’s FAR more law and order procedurals on television. Both beat reality tv hands down, imo.
First series I will watch on TNT. Now if NBC renews Harrys Law it will be like the good days when DEK had multiple shows on air at the same time.
Not interested in yet another doctor show, but how is TNT going to assess LA Noir, the one pilot they have that does interest me? Are they putting it up against Scent of the Missing and the other procedural pilots being filmed or to be filmed? Is LA Noir really a “procedural”?
“Meanwhile, Frank Darabont’s period pilot L.A. Noir is still filming. It will be evaluated on its own as a potential Sunday genre show for the network, which airs sci-fi drama Falling Skies on the night, and not with Scent and the group of procedural pilots it plans to order.”
Totally agree with you Scott TNT has completely lost it’s way…..
Really Jasie???
Fresh blood over there would be ideal.
I like medical shows so I may give a try. If I remember, summer 2013 is quite a ways down the road.
I will be very disappointed if Scent Of The Missing does not get picked up to series.
TNT has truley lost themself if they dont pick up L.A. Noire to series.
I mean, that is a gold mine if they promote it with “from the maker of The Walking Dead” and show pictures of DeMunn or Bernthal.
Think about it TNT. Rather that than a another normal medical-drama from darn David E. Kelly, do something fresher than that. Good period drama, go L.A. Noire!
I see it as more competition to HBO or Showtime – specifically something like Boardwalk Empire, a prestige show that will elevate TNT from its current barely better than broadcast position. Doctor shows and procedurals are okay, but TNT really needs a marquee show as well.
Ahhhhh…Ving and Alfred. Way to go for the young demo, TNT.
Thanks for proving once again that “The Demo” is just a bunch of self-centered nitwits whom the networks incessantly cater to and then don’t watch their crap shows anyway. TNT’s success has come precisely BECAUSE they offer series that appeal to an older, smarter, more loyal audience.
Network TV is for the “young demo.” Cable is where the adults and the smart youth go.
Gotta agree with that. I’m especially not thrilled to see Molina as one of the leads. He’s fine for some things, but for a lead role to draw in the women? Nah.
This sounds pretty good!
I hope “Monday Mornings” is as good as the novel, but summer 2013 seems too far off. Why wait?
Monday Mornings is set in Portland?! What?! Jamie Bamber and my hometown?!
They should pick up Scent of the Missing. Tricia Helfer is a fantastic actress. Then, if they have that, MM, and that Closer spinoff with Mary McDonnell, BSG will have taken over TNT…
Can’t wait to see if TNT drama pilot “Scent of the Missing”, starring Tricia Helfer, Eric Winter and the beautiful and talented Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator : The Sarah Connor chronicles) is going to series.
I followed the filming in December 2011 for fansite Summer Glau Wiki and it seems they managed to film a vibrant and touching story, based on the book by Susannah Charleson.
I usually do not care for medical shows. But, with Dr. Gupta and david Kelley at the helm, I might love this show. Can’t wait until ’13! Good pick, TNT!!
I liked of course Sarayu Rao in Big bang Theory. She is cute and great. — VRV
Thats right on the money “this show soundsvery good.
Loving Monday Mornings! Great characters, actors, and storylines. Advertise it more!
Love this show!! A much better presentation of hospital surgeons than any other medical series has ever done!! It deals w/real issues and problems people have today!! Congrats to all involved and hope the series is RENEWED for another season!!
I really enjoy this show, you don’t have to be a medical show fan, you simply have to be a character lover. Its a great new spin and perspective that’s never been done, not Ben Casey,Kildare,Er,greys anatomy can touch it, the idea of Doctor accountability, mixed with the nature of everyday people keeps me waiting and wanting more…love that big Cat…and the Big Boss, each Dr. character give an amazing flavor of human based compassion, error and recovery…more…more…more !
