MTV does not want to split the vote with Barack Obama. The network has shifted the start time of its Video Music Awards on September 6 in LA so it won’t slam into Obama’s acceptance speech the same night at the Democratic National Convention. “We will be airing the VMAs on Thursday, September 6th from 8-10 PM as opposed to our traditional 9-11 PM time slot to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening,” a MTV spokesperson told Deadline. The DNC had no comment on the potential clash, nor could it say exactly when the president is scheduled to take the stage at the convention in Charlotte, N.C. However, if recent past political conventions are an indication, the nominee traditionally beings his speech around 10 PM EST. This is the second broadcast schedule move around the president’s speech; the NFL said in February it was moving its 2012 regular-season opener on NBC from September 6 to September 5 (a Wednesday) to avoid conflicting with Obama. The Democratic convention runs September 3-6.

Again, doubt they’d do this for anybody else
Who else has the ability to impact their ratings by giving a speech?
So, would they do the same thing if it conflicted with Romneys acceptance speech? I think not!!!!
you’re even a victim in YOUR IMAGINATION!
What a horrible way to go through life.
He’s the president. It’s better the kids (or whoever watch these awards shows) tune in and at least hear what’s happening in their country instead of watching Ke!$ha and other vapid ‘talents’ receive trophies.
You think kids give a damn what he has to say anymore? They were excited for about five minutes, until they figured out it’s just business as usual in a younger, hipper package, then went right back to Ke$ha, Minaj and Ga Ga.
Most teenagers could care less about politics and Obama.
What a false controversy MTV stirred up; the show was scheduled last year for Sunday, September 9, well out of the way of everything if you look back at news about them scheduling this and the Movie Awards for 2012 last November. Now all the sudden they move to Staples, go back three days and have a ‘sudden conflict’? Something is fishy about this, surely the old date could’ve been kept without a problem.
Isn’t September 6th the only night when the Democratic Convention will have a prime-time session??
I thought I heard that this year, only the final sessions of each party’s convention (with the acceptance speeches of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominees) would be in prime-time, with the other sessions being during the day; reportedly, so ABC, CBS and NBC would be able to carry live coverage on all four days without pre-empting more than an hour of prime-time (on the final night of each convention for a pair of 20-to-30 minute acceptance speeches).
What a bunch of BS artists MTV is.
They once were the voice of the anti-establishment.
Now they are nothing but DNC butt-kissers. Not to mention they no longer even play music!
Yeah, Obama is real “hip and cool”…if you think unemployment, record debt, and stagnant incomes are hip and cool. If Obama was speaking across my street, I’d close the blinds and turn on ESPN Classics.
The thing is, if someone wants to watch the President, there are numerous other channels to turn to. People want their MTV and their NFL, so give it to them.
so mtv is airing obama? new!
Well Rock The Vote is basically owned by George Soros so what else is new.
LOL @ the haters. Conservatives sure can play the victim.
As much as you say kids are no longer into Obama, I can guarantee that they’re even LESS into flip-flopping Romney and his hate-mongering GOP masters.
