EXCLUSIVE: Alessandro Nivola has been tapped to star opposite Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the conviction of the West Memphis 3, a trio falsely accused of a triple homicide in a controversial trial that presented no physical evidence.
Nivola will play Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the young victims. It’s a pivotal role in the film; Hobbs is a controversial figure who has consistently denied any role in the murders but has come under suspicion in the 20 years since the crime was committed. He has never been charged and evidence against him is inconclusive. His relationship with his wife Pam Hobbs (Witherspoon) forms the backbone of the story.
Nivola will next be seen in Sally Potter’s untitled film, which stars Elle Fanning and Annette Bening. He’s repped by CAA and Management 360.

The West Memphis 3 were not “falsely accused”. They were rightly convicted, as anyone who has actually reviewed the evidence and read Jessie Misskelley’s six confessions knows.
Terry Hobbs was never charged with the murders because the evidence against him does not exist. Like Mark Byers (the supposed “real killer” in Paradise Lost 1 & 2), Hobbs’ only crime was to have his child tortured and killed by Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley.
The liberals are doing to Terry Hobbs the very thing they accuse authorities of doing to the “West Memphis 3,” which is convict him in the court of public opinion using innuendo.
Good to see someone try to turn this in to and idiotic argument about political parties. This is about a potential suspect in a murder, not about liberals or conservatives.
Actually they were falsely accused and convicted. Otherwise they would not now be free. There’s no evidence against them and each of the so-called confessions are exactly as coerced unconvincing. Testimony from confused children and the hysterial fears of the superstitions and inept police don’t make a case. You’re right about one thing – there’s no evidence against Hobbs, either. If you’re convinced they WM3 are guilty, then why did the state if Arkansas free them? Were they swayed by “Hollywood” or by the fact that their case against the WM3 has been proven over and over and over to be bogus?

In regards to the casting of Terry Hobbs, worst idea ever. He looks nothing like him nor is he southern.

Nivola is a very good actor, very under exposed imo, he has done great work in a variety of roles, and is the only american to have ever done a perfect british accent!
Just an FYI! Jessie only confessed ONE time! You can read it online word for word and can clearly see the detectives were leading him! Not to mention hours and hours of them questioning him and only the last 30 so mins taped! Just wanted to say that!
Don’t forget that most of the surveillance tape was non existent and the 30 minutes that actually exists shows a baseball bat in the corner of the room. It is also illegal to question a juvenile without a parent present to give consent or a lawyer.
