June 29, 2012 – The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and Basic Crafts Unions announced today that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract. The Basic Crafts Unions are Teamsters, Local No. 399, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 40, Plumbers, Local No. 78, Studio Utility Employees, Local No. 724, and Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons, Local No. 755. The terms of the settlement will be subject to ratification by members at a later date.
“I believe the tentative agreement is fair and equitable for both parties,” said Leo T. Reed, Chairman of the Basic Crafts negotiating committee. “It is my sincere desire to keep as much production in Los Angeles as possible.”
In response to the agreement, the AMPTP said: “The tentative agreement with the Basic Crafts Unions calls for additional funding of the health plan and the same two percent annual wage increase as has been negotiated in all recent AMPTP agreements. The deals will help keep productions working without interruption in the Los Angeles area and, for Teamsters Local 399, throughout the 13 Western states as the industry continues to adapt to the challenges of producing in today’s market.”

So in this day and age, when all the righties are attacking the unions all over the country, we were able to come to a settlement with the AMPTP with out the help of picket lines, sit-ins, protests etc, etc. I suspect because no one had a political agenda in these negotiations was the reason. As a former FireFighter, and a member of local 399, I am proud that we were able to come to agreement with honesty and sincerity . Why unions were formed in the first place, to negotiate fair wages for labor and allow management to conduct business.
Despite continued record profits in HOLLYWOOD, obscene executive pay, the working UNION people have to be content with 2% pay “raises”, whilst REAL inflation is 11%…
Now there’s a surcharge for the medical benefits, that will only escalate. So many members are dead by 64 anyway…
We’re always told we have to be grateful, it’s always the best contract under the circumstances. But really, it’s the pathectic state that our once strong, good unions have become. You wonder, are the unions representing us, or just controlling us for management!
Phil, Before we declare this a huge victory maybe we should find out the contract.
Really… Leo? This is your best?
The membership should vote Leo Reed out of office if this is the best he can do.
This is the I.A. contract…Leo …there is a deference in negotiating and “RUBBER STAMPING” the I.A. contract.
Leo Reed negotiated the last 399 contract with give backs and the loss of the 30 mile zone while his salary is over 300k a year and still climbing, while… we the membership…pays more out of pocket expenses.
When was the last time Leo Reed worked under our contract? 25, 27 or 30 years ago?. Leo Reed is 73 years old and has no skin in the game. And since we do not have term limits, then we have to vote him out!!
VOTE …Leo Reed OUT OF OFFICE..it is the only way to save what is left of our union.
Stop the give backs..Stop Leo Reed
What are we going to do without Leo Reed? Maybe have a much stronger contract
