After a lengthy search, New Regency has found an executive to lead the company’s return to television. Syfy programming executive Andrew Plotkin has been named EVP Television for New Regency. The move comes five years after New Regency’s previous TV outfit, Regency Television, a co-venture with Fox TV Studios, was shut down. Regency’s nearly 10 years of operation produced such series and Malcolm In The Middle and The Bernie Mac Show. Plotkin will oversee New Regency’s original television production, co-finance, and domestic and international distribution activities, reporting to CEO Brad Weston. “We set out to grow our television business in much the same way that we have built our film business — through a talent-driven and hands-on approach that allows Regency to be a part of projects and partnerships that we believe in,” said Weston. “Andrew brings immense talent and unparalleled enthusiasm to Regency. We could not be more thrilled to have him on our team as we re-energize our television division.”
Plotkin most recently served as SVP Original Programming for Syfy. In March, he informed the network brass that he will leave when his contract was up in June to pursue other opportunities. Since joining Syfy in 2009, Plotkin has shepherded development, reporting to Syfy’s president original programming Mark Stern. Before Syfy, Plotkin served as an executive producer at CCTV, China’s national broadcaster. From 2004-2008, he and partner Steve Pearlman ran Warner Bros TV-based Class IV Prods, which produced two series, Reunion on Fox and Related on The WB. Before that, he served as VP Drama Development for WBTV. New Regency has a handful of TV projects already in the works, including drama Beat The Reaper, written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, which is in development at HBO.

Nice credits. Pass. Guess no one wanted this job.
R u insane? Another buyer with cash to spend is good for everyone!!! Andrew is a straight shooter.
Congrats to Andrew! One of the best execs in the business. Look forward to some interesting projects out of New Regency.
I like Andrew. When I first met him I was struck by his immense talent and unparalleled enthusiasm. Rarely does that happen. He also knows his way around a Jerry’s menu. The guy can just look at that massive menu and know exactly what to order. Respect. I hope he does well at New Regency.
big congrats bud!!!!
Andrew trusts writers and gets it. They’re lucky to have him.
Wish Andrew well…why didn’t they give him President title? Is Brad doing TV too?
So I guess a deal didn’t work out last year with this guy… http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/new-regency-close-to-reviving-regency-tv-morgan-wandell-frontrunner-to-run-it/

Whose taking over at Sy-fy?
GREAT hire. Love andrew
Don’t know Andrew from a rat’s bunghole, but when I saw his pretty headshot I said to me wife; “Maryanne, look at this guy – something about him screams immense talent and unparalleled enthusiasm — I gotta get me into the TV business.” And just like that, we’re moving from Georgia to LA. I’m gonna get me a pilot deal with Andrew Plotkin.
