Last year, the revamped Two And a Half Men with new leading man Ashton Kutcher was the most anticipated premiere of the fall. Now Anger Management, FX’s upcoming comedy starring fired Two And a Half Men star Charlie Sheen, is the highest-tracking new series of the summer among adults 18-49. The two premieres have something else in common — most of their contents have been kept under wraps until the actual broadcast. The Two And a Half Men campaign ran under the “All Will Be Revealed” slogan and didn’t feature any footage from the season premiere. Anger Management is employing a similar strategy, relying on conceptual trailers, like the big-budget Train Wreck one, instead of actual clips from the show. Two weeks before the June 28 debut, FX had rolled out on-air only 3-4 trailers cut from episodes of the series, each of them featuring 10-15 seconds of material, mostly one-liners of Sheen’s character. Of those trailers, only one was available online on the FX site. In the past couple of days, the network has put out the remaining of eight such teasers planned in the campaign. (You can watch one of them below) Compare that to the 3+min trailers the broadcast networks put out for their new series for next season.
The similarity to the pre-launch strategy of post-Charlie Sheen Two And a Half Men was not intentional, FX’s EVP of marketing and on-air promotion Stephanie Gibbons said. “That’s our protocol,” she said, noting that FX never ran trailers with actual footage from American Horror Story either, betting instead on conceptual and mood-setting teasers. “We wanted to address what happened (to Sheen) before and open the next chapter,” said Gibbons, referring to the campaign’s early trailers, in which Sheen referenced his turbulent recent past, which culminated in his meltdown and subsequent dismissal from Two And a Half Men. As for the decision to keep footage from the show to a minimum in the promo campaign, “We will give you a taste but you won’t be stuffed before the meal begins,” Gibbons said.
In yet another link between Two And a Half Men and Anger Management, the Anger Management premiere’s opening scene features Sheen’s character, an anger management therapist with anger issues, in a middle of a rant that alludes to the actor’s firing from Two And a Half Men and his replacement on the CBS show. “You can’t fire me, I quit,” Sheen’s character says in the pilot screener. “You think you can replace me with some other guy, go ahead, it won’t be the same.” CBS did, and Two And a Half Men with Kutcher broke ratings records in its premiere, hitting series highs and attracting almost 29 million viewers. Now it’s Sheen’s turn.

I stand by what i already said : it was NOT a ‘meltdown’ maybe you press want to label it like that but to me it was not. It was above all about an entertainer who was fed up about LOT’s of things and free to tell what he thinks in the moment. Moreover Charlie Sheen has always been an eccentric who most of the time (like all other american hollywood entertainers, actors, artists) have to keep a ‘clean up’ image in order to appear ‘decent’ to the average audience and the hungry-gossip self-righteous medias.
I am looking forward to watch this new show. It has a great cast although i am not super fan of laugh-track.
p.s: the 29 millions viewers for the Two and a Half Men premiere was mostly thanks to Charlie Sheen, end of story, it is time to admit it press.
This short trailer is for Anger Management? I thought it was an old scene from Two and a Half Men. Isn’t it supposed to be a new and original show?
Nah it’s different but not really original, he plays it ‘safe’ in order to appeal mass viewers..which is a waste imo because he can do better but it still will be a good show.
I have no desire to see Charlie Sheen’s crumpled face on my TV anymore. The “inside” jokes about his whoring and drugging are old and just sad now.
This show is not about that..you did not even watch this show..eyeroll
CBS should pick up this show and run it after The Big Bang on Thursday nights.
I have a bad feeling about this new series. Tho I’ve only seen what’s been shown, Charlie sounds like he did when he was on his “mad hatter tour 2011. Just a tightly wound up out of control freaky guy and I am a fan however like Lohan it’s a curiosity for a few minutes then it’s change the channel time.
And by the way I think TV programing for the most part has gone mad. Just sayin
I disagree, he looks different, he looks alright but it is clear he aged..but actually it is not only drugs who do that to you but TIME !
There is no way he won’t make the necessary number to get the 90 episode order. Just the curiosity seekers alone will get them what they need. Doesn’t matter if they stick around or not, the order will be made and the bill will be paid. So sit back and be prepared for/enjoy all the praise to come… They’ll be making 90 more episodes of mediocre television and making a mint doing so.
I’m not interested in whether Sheen fails or not. From a strictly objective standpoint, that teaser above is quite week. The whole anger management thing should be explained up front, and quickly, otherwise people won’t bother checking it out.
People do like to watch a train wreck, but if they just go that teaser, even people looking for a train wreck will think there’s no way the train will derail (in other words, it’s a dull teaser).
It’s quite ‘weak’. Sorry. From a purely objective standpoint, my attention to detail is lacking.
The ratings for 2 and half men was just a reaction to firing Charlie sheen. The show is not the same and I miss the old show. I stopped watching it. i am looking forward to the new show and i hope he gets the expected ratings.
LOOKS GREAT !!!!
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ANGER MANAGEMENT.
CHARLIE SHEEN IS AWESOME !!!
Anger Management’s debut was fantastic. Charlie Sheen rocks and the cast is perfect. I was so looking forward to this show and the comeback and Sheen totally delivered!! Great to see him back on the screen doing well! As for 2 1/2 Men……BORING!
If television in the year 2012 can’t stop the lame laugh tracks in the backround, then it will be history in a very short time. TV is really a Dinosaur of a medium.
