Keira Knightley and Joe Wright reteam for a third time on Anna Karenina, which Focus Features will release in select cities November 9. It’s got a pretty stellar team: adapted by Tom Stoppard and co-starring Aaron Johnson, Jude Law, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Ruth Wilson, Olivia Williams, and Emily Watson among others. Oh yeah, it’s from a novel by some guy named Tolstoy. It’s definitely got the look of Atonement, the last Knightley-Wright tie-up that earned an Oscar Best Picture nomination in 2008 (it has the same producers in Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Paul Webster). But it seems more sweep-y, which the classic Russian novel certainly deserves.

Wright is certainly providing some very interesting visuals.
Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Just doesn’t evoke an emotional response, which is what this type of trailer must do. Looks like Keira Knightley planks her way through it with her usual woodenness. The visuals do look good, but it may be a case of a director being given so much money to make gravy that he’s forgotten about the meat and potatoes. Maybe this trailer isn’t doing justice to the film. We’ll have to wait and see.
@Fan – perfectly said in every respect. I was waiting for that ‘wow’ moment, but aside from looking beautiful, this movie has nothing to recommend it. Too bad about the bloodless leading lady – a different actress could have brought this to life.
This trailer is spectacular! Lez Miz and Gastby go eat your garbage :0
At least there are some movies for adults on the way!!! room for all 3.
A, I disagree completely. The trailer to Les Miserables is still the best out of these three films
Well, I guess the fact that Vronsky is losing his hair in the novel isn’t going to get any play in the movie–that guy has a head of hair like a lion.
Seems pretentious as hell, sort of Joe Wright meets a mash-up of Baz Luhrmann and Martin Scorcese. That said, I’m freaking tired of superheroes in Spandex, and will gladly put my ticket money into dramatic narrative.
nice to see doctor zhivago getting a re-release- oh wait.
This trailer does a great job of establishing the visual world of the film while leaving the plot more generalized, if not a bit generic.
this looks really good… excellent costuming
Will definitely see it…but I still love Garbo!
The trailer does have a distinct Baz Luhrmann feel, all swirling cameras and fast cuts. Keira Knightly appears too anemic to incite any real emotion, much less survive a Russian winter. Vronsky doesn’t look remotely military. Still, we’ll have to wait and see. Still hopeful.
