Dimension Films has set a summer start date for Scary Movie 5 and signed High School Musical‘s Ashley Tisdale for a lead role, the company said. Malcolm Lee is directing and David Zucker is co-writing and producing. Zucker wrote and directed the third and fourth installments of Scary Movie, which were the funniest. The big question is whether Anna Faris will bring back her Cindy Campbell character. There have been rumors that Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson will reprise their roles in the genre spoof.

Funniest? The third and fourth were by far the weakest. Painfully bad.
I had to read that a few times to see if I was missing a joke. Parody films as a whole are terrible today. Once they started reaching for current pop culture references, they sealed their tomb. Most parody films of the last decade have you thinking, “Oh yeah, I think I remember that person who was in the news for a couple days.”
I agree with the sentiment that the third and fourth Scary Movies were the best. They had the involvement of David Zucker and (in the fourth one) Jim Abrahams, the original great parody filmmakers who did “Airplane!” and “Naked Gun”. The first one was the Wayans brothers’ handiwork, and was just a bunch of gross sex and drug related humor. The second one seemed like it was slapped together in 20 minutes and was downright terrible. Go back and rewatch SM3; even though it’s not all great, there is at least some cleverness there with ZAZ veterans like Charlie Sheen and Leslie Nielsen involved.
Anna Farris is the whole movie. Without her the movie will certainly go straight to DVD. Oh, and by the way the only good Scary movies were written and directed by the Wayans brothers. Third and Fourth were horrible, soooo bad. This one will probably be the same.

You’re joking, right? NONE of the installments of Scary Movie were funny. They’re the epitome of lame. If the third and fourth were funny, then everyone and their brother wouldn’t have complained about how awful The Hangover 2 was; same writers.
That’s kind of inspired. I’ve only seen one of the “High School Musicals,” but she’s really quite great as a voice actress on “Phineas & Ferb,” the way Brittany Murphy was on “King of the Hill.” Could’ve cared less about “Scary Movie 5.” Now interested.
This will make her a movie star like Superhero Movie did to Drake Bell!
I mean, really why are they trying with this franchise?
Scary Movie was good. Part 2 was barely watchable. Part 3 felt like a slap in the face and Part 4 is simply unwatchable.
With that said I really like Tisdale and find her to growing into a very fine talent. I just hope this does her more good than harm in the long run.
Let’s not be overly critical of “spoof movies”. They all have funny moments…some very funny.
Without Cindy (ANNA FARIS YOU ROCK) or Brenda, it wouldn’t work though.
Will she do some Zac Efron jokes?
God i hope so. There are so many to do especially since he thinks he is a real serious movie star now.

Scary movie 1 & 2 SUCK! They were basically jokes about sex and bodily functions. At least 3 & 4 tried to have an actual plot and they succeed at being funny, not all the time, but the effort is appreciated. They succeed at parodying other scary movies and the results are funny/clever and not just gross. Bring on Scary Movie 5!
