There will be more First Family drama on Shonda Rhimes’ drama Scandal next season. The series starring Kerry Washington as Washington crisis management consultant/fixer Olivia Pope has promoted Bellamy Young to a regular. Young plays First Lady Mellie Grant on the show. She was a recurring guest star on the seven-episode first season and ended up appearing in every episode of the season, which featured Pope’s affair with President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) as a major storyline. Scandal is undergoing changes going into Season 2, with regular Henry Ian Cusick departing as his option was not picked up, and Young and Joshua Malina, who recurred as U.S. Attorney David Rosen, both promoted to regulars. Young, repped by Domain and Framework, recently recurred on Criminal Minds as Thomas Gibson’s love interest.

Wonderful news for Bellamy and her team! VERY well deserved! How can anyone NOT like watching Bellamy in anything she does. Great add for the show!
Not a fan of Mellie Grant but this will be great for the show. Hopefully, the show will explore the Grant’s relationship and give us more background on their marriage. How did they meet? Were they in love? What went wrong?, etc. Bellamy is a good actress and I’m happy for her.
I know ABC has the hots for Shonda Rhimes, but ‘Scandal’ has got to be the worst written show ever. It is terrible and should be put to sleep before it destroys these fine actors careers.
I thought the first episode was a fluke, but the second and third were just as bad.

Savvydude, totally agree. It’s unwatchable. The dialogue is so unnatural and Kerry Washington makes such a weird bunny rabbit face when she speaks. It’s dreadful. But, uh… congrats to Bellamy!

This is great news. I love the first lady’s character (thanks in part to Bellamy Young’s awesome acting). She and Joshua Malina are great additions to the cast. I will miss Henry Ian Cusick though.
As a fan of Criminal Minds, I’m happy to hear that Bellamy will be a regular on Scandal. Most CM fans didn’t like the character she played on our show. I’m hoping this promotion means we will be seeing less and less of her. But let me give credit where credit is due. I really enjoy her on Scandal.
I’m one of the Criminal Minds fans who found her intolerable. I say HOORAY to anything that keeps her off of Criminal Minds – even in a guest appearance.
