I’ve learned that CBS TV Distribution is finalizing a deal with Bobby Flay and Giada de Laurentiis to develop a syndicated daytime talk show for Fall 2013. The talker is expected to be in the vein of Live With Regis & Kelly and also air live. Shane Farley (Rachael Ray) will executive produce. This is the second high-profile syndicated talk show in the works for fall 2013. Sony TV is working on a show hosted by Queen Latifah and co-produced by Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment.
Flay and DeLaurentiis, granddaughter of veteran film producer Dino DeLaurentiis, each have their own shows on Food Network, and both were recently nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards, Flay for Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction and DeLaurentiis for Giada at Home. DeLaurentiis’ show actually scored the most Emmy noms for a culinary program, 5, followed by the most popular food-themed talk show over the past few years, Rachael Ray, which also hails from CBS TV Distribution.
Talks about Flay and de Laurentiis pairing for a syndicated daytime talk show first surfaced at the beginning of the year. The two have been working together as judges on Food Network’s flagship Food Network Star competition reality series series and last week they appeared together in a segment on the Today show (video below). In addition to his TV chef career, Flay is a well known New York restaurateur. The Flay-de Laurentiis show was sold by WME, which reps the duo and Farley. CBS TV Distribution declined comment.

Chefs. The rock stars of our day. The drug? Food. These are both very likeable, dare I say talented folks. But I also must ask with each of them all over the Food Network … why go to CBS? I know. Follow the money. Lots of folks don’t have cable. But, too, it feels …. I don’t know….will wait and see. Working for RR for sure.
Just what the world of television needs. Another unnecessary talk show.
No thanks. Giada’s unscripted interactions with people on this season’s Food Network Star has really highlighted her prickly side. I don’t think she plays well with others. And while I like Bobby, he might be a bit low-key for a daytime show.
That’s true of all three. Alton Brown, in particular, is a total horses rear end and Bobby Flay is a sore loser.
You’re right, Alton is surprisingly testy when he gets to boss people around.
I’m sure they’ll have many segments on food and keep the “talk” to a minimum. Pretty sad that Ray and now Flay and Giada give the existing shows competition.
The Chew is a ratings bomb. I can’t see how this is going to get ratings. The daytime talk show field is quite crowded. Some of these shows are going to end up on those little watched sub-channels.
Wonder if this will replace the last of the soaps on CBS. Seems likely.
The item clearly stated this show was being developed for syndication, not the CBS network schedule. So no, it would not be replacing a soap unless CBS is giving a timeslot back to affiliates to allow them to chose to slot this show there. That seems unlikely. It’s no Katie Couric.
Here we go, back to the 1990s once again with an influx of talk shows by anybody and anyone and to me, this one won’t last too long, just based on the concept. I mean, really? Another version of that horrid show The Chew? Come up with something original!
I can’t wait for this show to come out. I love both of these people; they’re amazing chefs and tv personalities. They’re really funny together. This is going to be so cool!!
For.God’s.Sake. Don’t we have enough daytime talk shows? Didn’t they become chefs because their talent is cooking and they love it? Puh.lease. Shut up and keep cooking.
Martha Stewart should have stuck with her original format on Martha Stewart Living. Look what happened to her. Cancelled.
I won’t watch. The screen isn’t big enough for Giada’s fake enormous blinding smile and Bobby’s real enormous ego.
