After a big marketing blitz, Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management opened with 5.47 million viewers and 2.65 million adults 18-49 (2.1 rating) at 9 PM last night on FX. While that was far from the numbers Sheen used to pull in on Two And A Half Men, it was a very strong cable performance. Anger Management ranked as cable’s most-watched primetime scripted comedy series premiere in total viewers and 18-49, eclipsing Tyler Perry’s House Of Payne on TBS, which opened with a 5.2 million. Like House Of Payne, which grew to 5.8 million for the second episode of its two-episode premiere, Anger Management gained too, averaging 5.74 million total viewers and 2.89 million adults 18-49s for its 9:30 PM episode. House Of Payne was the first sitcom produced under the 10-90 model employed by Anger Management, which includes a 10-episode initial order by a cable network, followed by a substantial (as many as 90 episodes) renewal that takes the series to broadcast syndication levels. Given the fact that House of Payne went on to produce 264 episodes, Anger Management‘s ratings start is promising for the series’ prospects. Distributor Debmar-Mercury already has been running ads for the show, which is expected to be taken to the station market immediately after its 10-episode run on FX ends. If the ratings levels hold, FX also is expected to move with a pickup quickly.

The premiere of Anger Management also boosted the season premieres of Wilfred and Louie. Wilfred‘s Season 2 opener (2.53 million total viewers, 1.5 million adults 18-49) was up 71%, and Louie’s Season 3 debut (1.43 million, 911,000 adults 18-49) was up 55% in total viewers. The series premiere of FX’s new late-night comedy BrandX With Russell Brand at 11 PM delivered 1.1 million total viewers and 687,000 adults 18-49, increases of +32% and +38% vs. FX’s time-period average.

Whatever gets more people to tune in to Louie makes me happy.
Hopefully some will tune in for the scandal, see that Anger Management is meh, but stay for the quality that is Louie.
how much do you think fx spent for the 10 eps?
The laugh track was incredibly distracting on Anger Management. In the opening scene they played it after every characters line.
I instantly like Sheen as this character over his 2.5 Men Charlie Harper. I wish they shot it more like Arrested Development and not like a sitcom from the 90′s.
It’s great to see him back on the wagon and back on tv, but the show comes off looking dated. Keep going but bring the production value up to modern times.
Can people seriously learn how to not notice the laugh track? I didn’t even notice it the whole time while I watching the show.
“Back 90 episode” pickup, here we come.
Anger Management is awful but then so was Two and a Half Men, so I guess we’re even.
But if you so even TOUCH one of the few hairs remaining on Louis C.K.’s head, Charlie Sheen, you will rue the day you f’d with me, son.
I agree – the laugh track made is so out dated…people laugh when nothing is funny. Modern Family has it right…people know when to laugh…Charlie go back to making movies. Is this show enough to get me off the net…are you serious Charlie…Charlie make a documentary of zoo animals, far more interesting. I would have cast everyone so different, but the bartender shows me, he’s still not over his past. I love the set design, but it so similar to his last show, I keep thinking it should be more fresh…And the jail segment, well, lost me on that…Thanks for the memories Charlie…I think Sheen would be great in a new George Lucas Star Wars movie, Sheen playing the drunk monster.
Expect the same ratings for Lifetime’s Liz & Dick. There’s nothing better than watching a train wreck.
It was fuuny. I will watch.
GREAT SHOW !!!!
CHARLIE SHEEN IS AWESOME !!!
TAKE THAT SINGLE-CAM HATERS!
I have to admit, I’ll be back next week to watch it. There’s something about Charlie that makes you want to watch him. Maybe it’s the knowledge that he is so flawed.
Anger Management was simply horrible.
Wilfred’s second episode was not as strong as the first of this new season. I want to like this, but the writing is probably going to start to suffer.
And Louis gets a pass, as the opening monologue was funny, but the add on story just flopped. However, I have no doubt about this show getting it’s groove back.
WINNING!
Charlie Sheen is WINNING AGAIN!
Way to go Charlie!..Crazy like a fox.
If you didn’t notice a near constant laugh track for an hour straight you should get stop driving immediately and get yourself to a doctor. There’s something wrong with you.
Brand X had 1.1 million viewers. I think it would be interesting to know how many of those were still around at the end of the half hour. Not even the studio audience though this was funny.
The show was mildly entertainment. I hope it gets better.
