EXCLUSIVE: As one of the country’s top touring standup comedians, Dane Cook has extensive experience onstage. But he is now going for a different type of onstage experience — in his theater debut, the actor-comedian has joined the Hollywood Bowl’s upcoming production of The Producers. He will play Franz Liebkind in the staging of Mel Brooks’ musical, which will hold three performances at the Hollywood Bowl — on July 27-29. Cook joins previously announced cast members Richard Kind as Max Bialystock, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Leo Bloom, Roger Bart as Carmen Ghia, Gary Beach as Roger De Bris, and Rebecca Romijn as Ulla. Susan Stroman, winner of the Tony for both direction and choreography for the original Broadway stage musical, will direct and choreograph Hollywood Bowl’s fully staged production. Cook, repped by UTA, next toplines the upcoming NBC comedy series Next Caller.

Is this an elaborate prank on the universe?
Perfect–the world’s most insufferable play, starring the world’s most eggregiously annoying performer. Ticketmaster here I come!
Whatever gets him to stop doing stand-up is fine by me.
Looks like a great cast – Roger Bart, Gary Beach – hilarious actors.
Dane Cook is better then some give him credit for; in fact he’s pretty damn talented. I don’t know him. Just a comedy fan.
You can’t be a fan of comedy AND Dane Cook.
Oh yes, I can. I laugh at Dane Cook. That’s the litmus test. There are people that do find him funny. Sorry, if you don’t. No foul on you, just my opinion.
The people who find Dane Cook funny are young women who don’t have any real sense of humor, but think they do. There are VERY good reasons Dane Cook is squarely in the category of men that other instinctively hate. The biggest reason being that Dane Cook is the Dane Cook of Dane Cooks.
It would be awesome if in future comments that you made some sense. Your comment is a train wreck!
While this will end up being Cook’s legit debut, he was supposed to be on Broadway in spring 2011 in Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig. The show had a theater booked, but was cancelled when financial backing dropped out. It was in theory delayed until the following season, but never ended up happening. Maybe The Producers will show he has theater chops and investors will be more likely to pony up next time around.
One of Hollywood’s genuinely nice guys, and he’s talented and hard working on top of that. Wish him nothing but the best with this.
Alot of negative opinions out there..Dane Cook, when performing on stage..never for a moment stops giving his all..my experience seeing him perform live was unforgettable..he is very funny and very energetic and its a great bet that any roll he is asked to do, he will execute it above and beyond.. JUST watch him..he’ll take charge!
The Bowl seats how many–!7,000 to 18,000. And I want to be part of the audience for a play???? And one starring Dane Cook. Highly unlikely!
He filled up Madison Square Garden almost every time he was there and madison square garden holds way more than 18,000 people
I really like the pic that was with this post;I think you must be at a happy time in your life.I just wanted to let you know even though I’ve given you a hard time in some of my past comments I really enjoy your show
Cook is great. Jon Stewart may be “cool,” but nobody laughs at him. His forced sounds and faces. Cook makes us laugh. The guy is the Mick Jagger of comedy. A superstar. He was great, great, in Mr. Brooks. This ain’t Marc Maron, “cool,” but nobody really likes him. This is Dane Cook.
Dane Cook? What, George Wendt wasn’t available?
Damn, I already bought my tix and now I’m gonna have to ask for a refund?
the best comedian and twitter out there, could this be the next batman?
Break a leg, kid!
I can’t believe how many haters there are out there. Dane Cook is one of the few comedians that actually makes me laugh out loud over and over again. And if that makes me a girl then my next move is to marry Dane Cook I guess. I love the energy he has. He doesn’t just stand in one spot. He’s all over the place and I think that is part of the entertainment factor. It would be nice if people would not put down the people that like Dane Cook so that they can feel better about their pathetic little hating lives. Keep it up Dane you are loved by millions!
