It would be funny if it didn’t inconvenience so many of the satellite company’s subscribers. Last night, Dish sent AMC Networks’ viewers scrambling to find AMC, WEtv, and IFC as tensions between the companies intensified. The No. 2 satellite company moved AMC from channel 130 to 9609 (for standard definition) and 9610 (for HD), WeTV from 128 to 9608, and IFC from 393 to 9607. Dish said it did so in response to an AMC ad on Mad Men urging the satellite company’s customers to “tell Dish they can’t drop AMC” — something Dish says it will do at the end of this month when the current carriage contract expires. AMC also promoted a website, keepamc.com, to rally its fans. Dish says that the new positions better reflect the channels’ ratings. HDNet now occupies the channel position that AMC had. WeTV has been replaced by Style. And people tuning in to IFC’s old channel will find Indieplex, a movie channel. Dish dropped Sundance Channel entirely on May 20. “We regret AMC has chosen to involve our viewers,” Dish says. “We continue to negotiate and hope we can reach a resolution.” Dish says that AMC’s channels don’t attract enough viewers to justify the cost, especially since many shows including old episodes of Mad Men are available on Netflix. But AMC says that’s a canard: Dish is really trying to pressure the company to drop a $2.8B breach of contract suit involving the VOOM HD channels. To retaliate, “Dish is punishing its customers” by making it hard “to find and watch some of the most popular and acclaimed shows on television.” The case is scheduled to go to trial September 18.

who cares. Direct TV has the market anyway.
Dish has over 14 million subscribers. Hardly a small number and they have ALWAY cost less than Direct and cable because they refuse to put up with any BS from the channels. I don’t want to pay more and the executives at Dish know this. Hold strong Dish!!
What’s the point in paying less if you only get one or two good channels? AMC is one of the few channels I watch every single week. Drop them, and I think I’m down to two, maybe three channels I enjoy. It’s simply pointless to pay 40 dollars a month when they are going to have no channels worth watching.
I agree. I too have few uses for a Television Provider at the moment. I watch nearly all of my favorite movies (And several of my favorite series) using the ever-freindly service of my internet provider. Being the only member of the household, an I.S.P. is (Nearly) all I really need. The only reason I keep Dish is because it has some of the few shows I like to watch the moment they air. Add to this the fact that half come from AMC and if they keep changing it so I cannot do what I like it becomes a useless service. I am paying them to cater to me, If I like AMC, then they have the right to flat out remove it (Though I can see a huge loss in business over that), But they DO NOT have the right to dangle it like a carrot across the 4 digit number “Nosebleed Corner”. To do so would be punishing the Customer, not the channel itself.
There is so much garbage and channels to have to go through pretty soon it will just be easier to watch all my shows commercial free. Once my contract is up in 6 months, if AMC is gone then so am I; $ 120 a month is too much to pay if the great programming on that station is gone.
i agree with you, and anyone who has commented in the same, i mean what’s the friggin point in keeping a company that refuses LISTEN to it’s cunsumers complaints and concerns, i mean really? is like that DISH? ok so your cheap, but hell, that’s only because they keep dropping or ‘removing’ channel lineups, i mean amc, and ifc, are mainly what i watch, so now i guess it’s on to price shopping at Brighthouse, or DirectTV, i say that if all who oppose the dropping of amc, ifc, we, etc…..stick to your ‘guns’ and drop dish, or even just let them know that you will be ending your subscription once it’s up, if we stand unified as a people, and don’t let DISH be such a bully, they will keep it, or lose millions in profit, and i doubt they want the latter to happen
You are in the low %5 of people who watch these channels. Dish knows who is watching and trust me not many people. The tv providers are not the ones that will pay for the high fees its us the consumers. I will keep my dish because they know that keeping the price low for us is the main objective. the networks have to earn the business of the tv providers. Direct has been raising their prices the most because they give in to the demands of the networks.
Well once your in a contract you have to wait to pull out. They dont see ratings because we had the DVR now and I bet that does not count.
Sure….but some of us don’t have a choice of the Direct, cable etc. Dish is our only choice and we hate being boxed in to their choice of what I watch….Sure go down to fewer channels. Believe me I’d change if I could get better & cheaper out here in the sticks!!!! Funny my only choice is expensive!
How come you can’t get Direct? It, like Dish, should be available practically anywhere you can get line-of-sight to the southern sky.
My complex has an “agreement” with Dish that they’re the only provider allowed to hook up here. So, it’s not always the free market of TV providers that it should be.
Because Directv Doesnt offer Eastern ARC but Dish does. I’m on Eastern ARC , If I tried South West, trees block it . might be same for this poster
Don’t drop Amc. what I have seen of your “replacement” sucks! There is enough junk that we HAVE to pay for…what is wrong in keeping a half good movie channel………………?? I may very well leave DISH in the dust……
Respectifully….
Let’s keep it simple. Don’t drop AMC. If you do, I’ll find another provider who has AMC. Simple as that…………..
Ditto, I’m heading to Comcast (which I don’t want to do), but this “not enough people watching it” is BS. As if HD Net is an improvement….please!
Same here,no A M C I’m gone!!
I absolutely agree. new season of breaking bad starts tomorrow on AMC and now we can’t watch it. they sure don’t lower the price when they take away these channels do they? i am furious. breaking bad and walking dead are two of my favorite shows
I have checked with direct tv, and dish isn’t that much cheaper as you have to pay lease fees on the equipment. The channel bundles are about the same.
Here is some better advice for you Dish…STOP PUTTING YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE MIDDLE OD YOUR DISPUTES!!! SOOO sick of these heavy handed negotiation tactics that Dish continue’s to use!
To hold Dish Network customers who pay their monthly bills each month to watch TV hostage in its war with AMC is an outrage. When I signed a contract with Dish just a few months ago AMC, WE, Sundance and IFC were advertised as some of the channels I would be recieving whenever I wanted to watch them. If Dish drops them I will consider it a breach of contract and will drop Dish Network in favor of a provider who acts a little more adult in such matters. I will go to claims court if they try to slap me with early termination fees. Every Dish customer should do this. Consumer Reports stated something like customers should not be held hostage whenever this type of thing comes up between cable networks and providers as it often does. GROW UP DISH – TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS WITH FAIRNESS!
here’s part of that contract you signed.
I. Changes in Services Offered. We may add, delete, rearrange and/or change any and all programming,
programming packages and other Services that we offer, as well as the prices and fees related to such programming,
programming packages and Services, at any time, including without limitation, during any term commitment period to
which you have agreed. If a change affects you, we will notify you of such change and its effective date. In the event
that we delete, rearrange or change any programming, programming packages or other Services, we have no obligation
to replace or supplement such programming, programming packages or other Services. You are not entitled to any
refund because of a deletion, rearrangement or change of any programming, programming packages or other Services.
PROGRAMMINGs are subject to change without prior notice, it was stated in the contract.
If there’s any contract dispute, Dish will not waive the termination fees. Those are valid charges since you signed a valid contract.
We never signed anything, or if we did it was ten years ago.
We will dump Dish in a heartbeat if we can’t even watch the two or three shows we actually want to watch. There are so many crappy channels in their line-up it is unreal at this point, let alone after getting rid of AMC. We would have dropped Dish by now and went with just Hulu/Netflix/HBO Go, but unfortunately they and the other cable/satellite companies have bribed HBO with enough money to keep the umbilical cord tied. It won’t stop me dropping their regular cable package and getting HBO ala carte, though. We’ve done it before. That’d save us about 40 wasted dollars every month, let me tell you.
Well maybe its time consumers started figting for their CONSUMER RIGHTS. Is DISH (concerning pulling AMC, etc.) about ready to pull a Netflix screw up when they hiked their rates so high they lost millions of customers? I suspect a few of these blogs are from Dish employees – sure looks and sounds (and smells) like it.
So by that rationale, they can delete all of their programming (under no obligation to supplement it). Nice try. That contract won’t hold up.
This is for Greg who I guess works for Dish TV. In response to you pointing out that a TV provider like Dish and others can “add, delete, rearrange/change any and all proraming” AFTER a consumer (paying customer) signs a contract PROVES my point. Customers have NO SAY and are at the mercy of the TV signal providers like DISH when they get in fights with channels like AMC and others and start acting like spoiled brats with no regard for the customers. DISH does not care about its customers and they will be dropping AMC at end of June. If Comcast or Direct TV did the same I would say the same thing – Consumers have NO power in things like this and its time the FCC stood up for us – the paying customrs – for a change. Thanks for proving my point Greg.
Or how about customers acting like Little BRATS who didnt read the contract before signing it. Yeah like YOU saying Greg works for DISH! gues I could say YOU work for AMC or maybe Directv!!!!
The whole argument about it was in my CONTRACTUAL agreement that Dish has the right to change/delete blah blah blah any channel is MOOT. We are NOT locked into a contract we can cancel and jump to directv or any other provider anytime we want if we are not satisfied with the service that we are receiving. I didn’t complain or call in about the constant price hikes even though about 1/2 the channels I pay for and don’t watch are full of crap and a ton of sports channels no one in my household watches, but I will complain about this, and I will drop them this for this. Amc is one 4 channels that I regularly watch on dish. They drop it and its a waste of $85 a month for me.
Dish is acting like the grown up. Do you want to pay more for Dish? These channels want more money and if Dish agrees your monthly plan will go up! No one wants to pay a higher bill. Dish network is doing the right thing. If the channels want a higher fee I say drop them. Most of the programming can be seen on netflix and most of the movies I have on dvd. Don’t be bullied by the channels. Dish network you got my support!!
From the article;
“Dish says that AMC’s channels don’t attract enough viewers to justify the cost,…”
Since you work for Dish, you should be able to answer,Have you heard of The Walking Dead? How does it stack up against its direct competition? Why should a network that develops a real hit,as opposed to those that the networks claim is a “New,Smash Hit!!!!!!!” after 1 week, not be allowed to seek more revenue for something the public wants? Why should Dish be the only one allowed to raise its rates?
Don’t tell me that Dish is a bargain,my rate has gone up considerably in the years I’ve had the service.
Paying any money at all for nothing is worthless. Oh, I can watch Breaking Bad on Netflix eventually (two years from now, probably)? Well I guess it’s time to quit paying Dish 40 dollars a month for nothing then. Or perhaps start paying Direct TV my 40 or 50 dollars instead.
There’s no point paying money for nothing at all, is there? I hate most of their channels. AMC is the only one that I consistently watch every week.
well i read that the real reason dish is dropping amc is over a legal dispute stemming from dish terminating a contract with a subsidiary company called voomHD. I read that the appellate court refused to grand dish further options because they destroyed evidence electronic evidence of some sort? and so the appellate court gave them no more appeals and have set a trial date of september 18th (if I remember right?)as they terminated a contract and that subsidiary company filed suit in regards to the terminated contract. so as soon as the appellate court set trial date dish notified amc that is was dropping them and all those other channels. That is what I read.
Well, Dish should at least give the customers a say in wheter we want to pay more to keep AMC. I wouldn’t mind paying a few more dollars month to keep theses channels since my family watches them frequently. It would be nice to at least have the choice to pay more rather than just have it taken away. Even if dish does have to pay more money to keep those channels they are still raking in plenty of money!
I agree with melissa, why not give the customer the option to pay more for AMC viewing privileges? I would be willing to pay a little more and have expressed this to Dish. Despite what the contract says, (I also agree it locks customers in to bad situations like this, as they often do) I would also be willing to pay a considerable cancellation fee of $240 to got to Direct or cable so I can watch AMC…I feel THAT strongly about this. I have already called Dish, wrote emails, and contacted them through keepamc.com, and will continue to voice my opinion. Dish network: in order to keep loyal, paying customers, you must be willing to be flexible and keep your customers wants/needs of the utmost priority. I have read enough posts from concerned customers to know that keeping AMC is one of their, our, highest priorities.
Perhaps I will take a queue from Tim Robbins character in “The Shawshank Redemption” (a great film often aired on AMC) and write/call twice as often as before.
Have you noticed that they raised the protection plan $1.00 a month? They fail to tell you that. There’s even MORE money they are recieving and we are getting less channels? Come on.
I agree totally if dish network drops AMC I will drop dish network. AMC is arguably the best channel on tv. It holds critically acclaimed shows like The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. If I can’t watch the Walking Dead anymore I will drop dish network and switch to direct tv or comcast tv. THIS SHOULD BE DONE BY ALL DISH NETWORK CUSTOMERS THEY ARE ACTING LIKE BABIES AND DESERVE TO PAY FOR IT!
I agree, “Walking Dead” has a very large following. How could the possibly say AMC doesn’t attract enough viewers. I went looking for AMC and had to go online to find out where it went. That is not very mature of Dish to move a channel because they are in dispute with them. Handle the dispute like grown-ups, don’t involve the customers.
i agree, when i tried to go to IFC on the guide, it wasn’t there, i was like “WTF” happened to my channel?, so i looked for amc and it was gone, and replaced by some garbage channel, that looks like it’s trying so hard to be ‘cool’ that it’s total CRAP. lol, now all dish customers, instead of having been able to go to a simple channel 130, we all got blind sided by their bitch move, when they childishly moved our channels into the ’9600′ channel range. I, mean, really DISH?, REALLY? Wow, i also agree with previous post, that we should not be punished because dish network wants to be a lil Bi*ch.
me too..
long time customer ..:(
I added AMC to my programming after I ran into The Walking Dead series on Netflix. I don’t appreciate any person, corporation or entity going back on a contract (Voom) and then retaliating in a childish manner at the expense of the customer. I already pay quite a bit for Dish Network when I added HBO and Showtime for my boxing programming. I am willing to give it all up and pay more on the basis of principle. My loyalty is to my family and my principles and I am not willing to give that up to save some money. I won’t sell out for a lower price, sorry. I’ll take my business to Direct TV on principle. It used to be that deals were sealed with a hand shake in the past, I contacted Dish already and am looking at Direct TV packages. I don’t think Dish can afford to lose customers during this recession and I do think that my $120.00 plus that of every other customer that bails will hit them where it hurts, the checkbook.
I agree. I am not concerned about the dispute between the companies and it all seems petty, but at the end of the day, if I can’t watch The Walking Dead on Sundays….I’m jumping ship. Early termination fee or not.
I agree I’ve been watching The Walking Dead for 2 seasons and now I find out that I’m not going to get to watch it due to Dish not wanting to pay for AMC channel. With the cost of Dish I would think you could afford to pay for this channel. I am seeking other options
Amen, I go with you on this!!!! I have to go with a long time period and the rate goes up, after a few months. I want the channel I signed up for….NOW!!
I’m with you on this REX! I went to keepamc.com as well and stated the same sentiments. One of the reasons I got the package I did was because AMC, IFC, and Sundance were part of it. I agree that this would seem to personify a classic breach of contract on their part, and I will NOT pay any termination fee. At the very least this should have been put to the customer for them to decide if they were willing to pay extra or eliminate AMC completely. This was the same scenario about a year and a half ago with the FOX stations. Not only do I take issue with the potential cancellation of these stations but I also find it reprehensible that Dish would try to do this on the sly. I believe that if outside sources had not alerted us to the situation, one day we would have turned on AMC to watch “Mad Men” or “The Walking Dead” and the shows would not be there, nothing, nada, zilch. It would be a done deal with no hassle from the expendable (to them) customer. Dish has done a great disservice to themselves by disregarding its customer base’s desires in this matter. For a company that touts “options” and “choice”, they have offered their customers neither.
Regardless if DirectTV “has the market”, they have less channels and charge more money for them, so I wouldn’t change to them no matter what Dish Network does with AMC but I really hope that they don’t drop them, we’ve been waiting forever for Breaking Bad to start again & it’s really doing to suck if they cancel them before the new season starts
This is why I should’ve stuck with Comcast…. They treat customers right. Dropping dish if they drop amc
all satellite and cable companies have at one time or another dropped stations from their lineup and do not reimburse you for it and if you are wtill under their contract which is usually 1 to 2 years initailly then you would have to pay the penalty to stop the service from whichever provider..
dropped dish after they stopped all NY sports..
Don’t bore you!!! Well I am sure my comments will not be posted but I want you to know I am very disappointed that I will not be able to watch my favorite show “The Walking Dead” I have waited all year to watch this show. I am disabled and my husband has cancer. I don’t want to be writing this be I must let you know how disappointed I am with you!!! As I have too many other things to worry about in my life. Just wanted you to know it makes me sick that it’s all about money with people that already have plenty!! Looks like it’s only hurting people like me and my family who are limited in their choices!!! Be adivsed this is not the only form in which I can have my say!! We already pay way too much and there just aren’t that many shows that we like it’s just not worth it!!!
I have been with Dish since its beginning and for Dish to be playing this “game” with it’s customers is an insult… If AMC is dropped, Good bye Dish…
Don’t tell us, tell Dish.
Do you want to pay more for your dish? Dish is trying to keep cost down. Those channels are trying to get more money. If the channels get more money that’s more the customers like us have to pay. Dish is doing the right thing. Keep our cost down and don’t give in to their demands. If you drop dish for any other provider you will pay more in the end!
I’m thinking you work for Dish.
I think you work for AMC!!!!
But if you don’t end up with the channels you want then it’s a waste of money for sure… I would rather pay more and actually get the channels I want.
You’ve obviously never seen Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, or Mad Men. Because if you have, you’d know that the price hike is worth it. Plus, these are shows that you MUST see live. This is revolutionary television in the making. It’s happening right now, but I WILL drop Dish if they drop AMC, no questions asked. Breaking Bad starts July 15. You have time to catch up, Bhmbdboy.
Alex – Even if I’m watching all four of their major shows, I’m still only watching two hours each week. In the Spring, it’s Mad Men and The Killing, and in the Summer/Early Fall it’s The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad.
So even if 100 million viewers watch all four shows, they’re still only watching the channel for 2 hours a week on a given week. Beyond these shows, AMC has little of value as the remainder of their programming is a lot of syndicated shows and movies they repeat far too often with way too many commercials.
Now consider that this is Breaking Bad’s last season and Hell on Wheels, the show primed to take Breaking Bad’s place, doesn’t have the same draw as Breaking Bad. Mad Men has one or two seasons left before it’s done, as well – assuming they don’t have another year-and-a-half long contract dispute.
With the ending of Breaking Bad, AMC’s value is decreasing, not increasing. They simply want more money to prop up failing networks.
I have to agree, although before I actually called the toll free number AMC is broadcasting I too was furious. However, finding this is a ploy by AMC to force Dish to keep WE, Sundance, and IFC too calmed me down. Both sides seem to be maneuvering the viewers as pawns. Neither have me happy right now, but if Dish wants to drop AMC and lower my rate, fine. I’m not crazy about the iTunes solution but it is an option. (Of course I know Dish will never lower my rate, but a man has to dream…)
Basically both these entities need to get the deal done before mid-July.
And what is so wrong with AMC wanting more money at least for its AMC channel? They only produced the #1 hit show on cable this past year(Walking dead) and its other shows, Mad Men must be faring better than USA channel’s Burn Notice or The Glades. Why shouldn’t a channels innovativeness and fan popularity be rewarded? I thought this counrty still supports rewarding success.
AMC does not want more money!!! This is all because of the lawsuit that is currently scheduled for trial in September AGAINST DISH for dropping channels that were under contract with dish (VOOM}. As well as destroying electronic evidence proving that DISH is scandelous!
In return, Dish is holding channels ‘hostage’ and dropping them at the end of their contract, even though AMC’s lineup contains EMMY award winning programming!
I have been a loyal customer of Dish since the beginning, too, but since AMC is leaving, I will be leaving as well, and I WILL NOT be paying anything to Dish to cancel. The Walking Dead, Hell On Wheels, Breaking Bad, etc…I will continue watching you on Directv!!!
Well I was seriously considering replacing Comcast with Dish but we watch AMC and this will keep us from making them move.
I love their sense of humor…of course, The Walking Dead has incredible ratings. Still, it’s hard not to laugh reading their antics.
I’m glad I don’t have Dish Network. I can’t say I completely understand what the issues are between the two companies, I’m just happy not to be affected by the situation. I quite enjoy Mad Men and the Killing. -jd-
Dish is a repulsive company, and dumb and plain old meanspirited. To punish loyal customers is mindbogglingly bad enough, but to have done so Sunday night in the midst of the AMC’s highest rated shows, redefines stupidity. Never giving them another dime. They have written their own epitaph.
I have Comcast and I honestly thought that the AMC ad during Mad Men was a scheme on Comcast’s part to make Dish look bad. (Can’t they tell I’m not a Dish customer? Why show me an ad that doesn’t apply to me?)
I guess Dish doesn’t need Comcast to help them look like fools. Netflix could give them lessons on image management.
Reed Hastings would be happy to read that.
If this is the worst they do so what, I don’t tune to channels, I tivo and hit play. If Dish decides to drop AMC before Breaking Bad comes back just as I caught up and finished season 4 I’m dropping Dish like a hot cup of coffee. I WANT MY BREAKING BAD DISH!
I hope all the people venting here are contacting Dish.
Although, frankly, I’m on their side.
I didn’t like some of the new shows of AMC. But they still had the old Westerns on Saturdays. At this time, my package with DishNetwork is terrible and a joke. 75-80% of the package is garbage, channels I don’t watch.
If you want Westerns, then get Encore Westerns.
AMC is trying to jack up the amount that Dish has to pay them. Dish is constantly in disputes with these companies to be able to keep the total cost to their customers down. If you want to blame someone for Dish dropping AMC then you need to blame AMC. They think that since they finally have a couple of good shows that they now deserve more money. They are already getting more money from the advertisers so why should the viewers have to pay more?
Once Dish drops AMC, AMC will get hit by the major hit in revenue from the amount that Dish pays them for each subscriber, and for the advertisers either pulling their ads or demanding lower prices because of the drop in the number of people who see their ads. AMC will come crawling back offering their channel for a proper price.
Alright, I’m not a dish customer, I saw the junk saying the drop at the bottom of my tv when I got off work tonight watching the breaking bad recap…Reading the comments at first on this page made me kinda pissed at Dish. I don’t really know what is going on here but it does seem like AMC is getting cocky with there shows. Yet people pay their hard money to relax at the end of the day and to cut the shit you would wanna watch, well yeah I would drop you too. Still it is “grown up”(Fuck The Working man for money”Monkey”)…Called Business People. Corps Suck. Uprise start! You want the shit but dont agree with the contract…Then Dont sign. It’s no Dif. than clicking the little check box on a program you are loading on your computer. You have no choice to comply or you cant use it.
Thank you CubBump, AMC is throwing their weight around because now they got a couple of good shows. To be honest, AMC was making me mad airing The Walking Dead for a couple of months, interrupting it, then airing it again several months later or even the next year. Now, like I’ve said before, I just buy the full season on DVD. But, I’m realizing why they keep doing it that way, to keep up their viewer ratings, however, their boldness is going to backfire on them. Let’s be honest, what other shows do we, viewers, watch besides Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead? They are not like ID where their shows are nearly addiction, do you know how many months it took me to ween myself off of that channel, lol? Instead of Dish customers protesting to Dish about business, they need to divert all that anger and frustration toward AMC as you have stated CubBump.
I actually give Dish credit for pushing back. While AMC has some decent programming, these cable networks have a delusional view of what they are worth. If a-la-carte pricing ever took hold, there would be a pretty quick come to Jesus about what consumers are willing to pay for directly.
If I were a Dish subscriber (once was) & not under contract I’d dump them like they’re dumping AMC.
I suspect one of the big areas of this dispute probably lies with AMCs continued insistence that IFC be included in the package with its other higher-valued channels. I used to really love watching IFC due to it being a rich source of unique movie programming, including a very large number of foreign films, but now, I really have to struggle to find anything worth watching on that channel, or if there is a movie worth watching, it is now chock full of commercials and is repeated endlessly over the evening as well as the month.
That said, missing Breaking Bad will be really tough — I may have to verify whether it will be available on Netflix or Amazon if this dispute causes an interruption. As far as leaving Dish Networks, my opinion on DirecTV and Comcast is lower, so I am not really left with too many other options.
Dropped Dish this morning. Hello Fios
I left Directv because they refused to carry AMC HD a few years back. Bleh.
Last year it was The Fox/FX we lost for a while., Now we may lose AMC ! This is getting out of hand. If you drop AMC, I will drop you and go to Direct T V !!!!!!
I don’t care if dish does drop amc just as long as they replace it with good family shows that you wouldn’t be afraid for a five yrs old to watch. I’ve been with dish fora long time and will be with there longer
i have dish for a munber of years i hople they do not drop amc i enjoy this chanel
“Sophisticated” customers are going to blame the company who sends them the bill, but also side with the one who exploits their Mad Men loyalty to get charge more money to help pay for crap like Kendra on Top and Bridezillas, and extort money for a lame, failed channel package that noone should be obligated to broadcast, much less pay for. I can wait a few hours, and buy Mad Men episodes on iTunes. Both Mad Men and Breaking Bad already have their end dates sketched in, so it’s not like I’m endangering those shows. AMC is not getting my backing for this one.
I’m actually curious to know if there are any Dish subscribers that lamented the demise of Voom.
I’ve been with Dish Network for many years but if they drop AMC, I’ll be dropping them. I’ve emailed them and told them so. The only things worth watching on TV anymore are on AMC.
I dropped Dish last summer because I just wasn’t watching much TV anymore, but I’m on their side in this one. While I’m a big fan of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Killing (all caught on Netflix), AMC otherwise just isn’t worth what they’re asking for.
Though you won’t find a bigger fan of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, I think Dish is in the right here.
That being said, I hope they come to a resolution.
I can understand why AMC might matter some to viewers on Dish. But the 3 big series are readily available elsewhere and the rest of AMC is irrelevant. The other AMCX networks are really bad.
Sundance, IFC and WETV have no break out shows, no viewers and no idea where they fit into the cable landscape. Actually they have destroyed Sundance, IFC is Portlandia (small hit in there world) and why do we need WETV?
I’m no longer under contract with dish so I got an easy good bye if they get rid of channels I pay for. Regardless if you like the channels or not, its about principles and getting out of your agreement what we as customers signed for. I believe dish doing this is a breach of contract. So those of you still in a contract might beable to break it due to dish breaching their end.
Read the contract you signed.
If your in a contract with dish can’t you cancel anyways since they are in breach of contract to the customer. We pay for these channels and they take them away. So they broke their contact to us. I’ll leave if they get rid of what I pay for regardless if I like these channels or not.
I cannot believe that Dish Network would do such a dirty move to the loyal customers. I understand that it’s all business but you don’t treat your customers like this. I always look forward to watch AMC every Sunday to watch my favorite shows. Any other time when the NBA game is not on I tune in to AMC to watch some good old movies I enjoy. I promise you if AMC is not back by this Sunday you can come by and pick up your Dish or else I would rip it out myself and put it in the garbage. STOP BEING GREEDY AND SELFISH.
I care. Direct TV is over-priced and I really don’t want to switch companies just so I can watch this one show I like. Which would be The Walking Dead.
I agree. The Walking Dead is the only thing I watch on AMC as well. I’ll be mad to not have it but I’ve been through this with DISH before when they had the battle with Fox. It ended up getting worked out. Loads of people jumped the DISH ship when that happened and went to the Direct TV and had to deal with the same exact problem recently. It’ll get worked out in the end.
