EXCLUSIVE: Darren Aronofsky is casting up the main roles for Noah, the Biblical epic that stars Russell Crowe. I’m told Aronofsky has set Douglas Booth to play Noah’s son Shem. Noah’s older son, Ham, will be played by Logan Lerman. Still to be cast is Noah’s wife — word is that Jennifer Connelly is among the actresses in the mix for that role (she starred with Crowe in A Beautiful Mind) — as well as Noah’s nemesis in the film. Early on there were whispers that Liam Neeson might play that role, but that’s not happening. There is also a great role for a young actress, the love interest for Noah’s oldest son. The film’s being co-financed by Paramount and New Regency and is Aronofsky’s follow-up to Black Swan.

Did I miss something? Don’t we already know that Saoirse Ronan is playing the young love interest ?
That was a rumor that people labeled as official.
Interesting because Logan has worked with both Russell and Jennifer before. Russell in 3:10 to Yuma and Connelly in the upcoming Writers. Looks like Connelly and Crowe have good things to say about him.
If they’re playing Noah’s wife as his nemesis, is it too much to ask that they bring in elements from Timothy Findlay’s wonderful, revisionist Noah novel, “Not Wanted On The Voyage?” Because that would be great.
agree, I initially thought this was being based on Findlay’s work which is an allegory for the Australian experience and it’s Russell Crowe playing Noah, it would’ve been great. But apparently it’s an orig screenplay by the director with a rewrite by John Logan. let’s wait and see Paramount did say it will be a “robust production”
Pretty sure they’re saying they have yet to cast TWO roles: Noah’s wife AND ALSO his nemesis. Check the em dashes.
Oh Logan, fire your agent! You’re so talented and you do Musketeers and this trainwreck (boatwreck)?
I personally think Noah is going to be a huge movie, and with one of the best inventive and challenging directors of his generation, I’d love to see it succeed. Logan Lerman is also going to be in The Perks of Being a Wallflower in September, a book that I adore and can hopefully translate well to the big screen.
But yeah, definitely can’t defend the decision to do Three Musketeers.
If Logan’s in it, I’m watchin!
He’s so talented, I love his work and him!!
Its called a paycheck.
What is so great about the role of the oldest son’s love interest? It’s not like the actress will have anything interesting to do besides looking beautiful and making out with the son.
Well I wouldn’t call this a boatwreck – it’s Aronofsky at the helm and John Logan who also wrote Gladiator, the Aviator, Hugo, last samurai, corionalus and the next bond film skyfall, so if I were Logan Lerman and I get a call to audition for Aronofsky I would grad the chance. Plus Saoirse Ronan is also rumored to be circling this project
If they get it right it must be spectacular. Mostly because of the animals on board. Wow. Can’t wait.
Finally, Logan Lerman playing his first Jewish role (well, old testament, so it’s close).
This is promising news. Both Douglas and Logan are very promising your actors – lots of talent – and some interesting new movies on the horizon. Russell Crowe always delivers in the acting department, eventhough his movies are not always guaranteed hits. At the very least, with Aronofsky, Crowe and John Logan on board, this will be an interesting film with pedigree.
And who is to play Japeth? Or are they cutting one of Noah’s sons out completely?
Is there any particular reason why a story from the book of Genesis does not have people of color in it? don’t we want to see a factual dipiction of ancient times? They need to rethink the cast and make it more international or at least show people from that era
