Here’s a trailer for Lionsgate’s Dredd. Directed by Peter Travis and written by Alex Garland and based on the Judge Dredd comic books, it stars Karl Urban as the title character (played by Sylvester Stallone in the 1995 version) plus Olivia Thrilby and Lena Headey. Slated to open September 21st:

You got an actor with a face like Urban’s and you’re gonna put a big ole mask over it? Wtf? Urban is a good actor and super hot, I would have thought they’d redesign the costume a bit so we could see the face. As it stands now, it could be ANY actor in that costume. Hell, it could be a stuntman.
Too bad. Would love to see Urban in a leading role where I can actually SEE him!

Thats the WHOLE point about DREDD hes a faceless cog in the fascist regime! Read a DREDD story go buy a graphic novel start with origins id suggest. Its well worth the read then you get a real insight into the character. Urban has been reading Dredd for years he knows what hes all about

Well, I could be wrong, but it looks like this film misses the whole point of that. Say what you like about Stallone’s Dredd, at least that story attempts to explore this aspect…the corruption of justice, the fascistic impulse driving Dredd etc. Maybe not too well, but at least it tries.
Instead this “reboot” looks like a head on collision between The Raid, Dirty Harry and Robocop.

Ummm Karl Urban can do no wrong. This movie is going to bring him into the big league. I hear him and the movie are total badass. 2000 AD comic book fans are going to love it.

I wonder why Priest didn’t bring Karl Urban into the big league? Nothing about his performance was wooden or derivative at all, including the “bring it on” hand gesture he invented.
This looks surprisingly good. Remains to be seen if it’s nothing more than a “shoot-em-up,” but the trailer is promising.
If I see “Lets finish this” as a featured line in one more trailer I’m going to puke.
If that’s one of the best lines they have from the whole blasted film for the trailer it, by definition, does NOT look promising.
It’ll open under 20 and fall off 70% in week two. Nobody but fan boys care, and it doesn’t look even close to good enough to get a jaw bone push.

Absolutely DREDD-ful. This storyline is beyond lame. I expected more from someone as talented as Alex Garland. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Or maybe the guy just wanted to cash a “phat” paycheck. Whichever the case, this film looks like a paroxysm of excrement.
“I expected more from someone as talented as Alex Garland.” Really? ‘Cause all I expect from him is a moderately interesting premise and poor execution of the last act, and the dude hasn’t disappointed me so far. He’s a better novelist than a screenwriter.
I think I saw the better, Indonesian version of this — it was called The Raid.
I saw an early screening this past week and it was fantastic! Great story! It is a mean dirty movie! And in 3D too…I had to wipe the blood splatter off my glasses afterwards.
You have to try a little harder when pretending to be a real person, marketing dude. Make sure you list a few minor flaws. Compare it to other successful movies. Mention how it’s not just for guys. Be smarter about it.

I have to agree. Apparently, Karl is a huge fan of the character and really wanted to stay true to the story in which he never shows his face, but he’s such a handsome guy, it’s sad that we’ll not be able to see his face. Hopefully that’s not the case, but it’s not looking good is it? Oh well, I’ll still see it.
This looks SICK!!! My friend went to a screening the other day and said it was amazingly good. Great action and cool storyline. Hurry up September!!!

This trailer looks EXACTLY like THE RAID REDEMPTION! A tower…. she tells the tower we have guests…. seriously same exact movie. What a rip off!
Check your facts. Dredd started shooting in august 2010. The Raid began in march 2011. Dredd is 3D and completely VFX heavy. The Raid ain’t. Hence the difference in edit/ release times. Two completely different films with coincidentally similar plots.
