Fox News Channel dominated coverage of the Jerry Sandusky verdict on Friday. The network beat CNN, HLN and MSNBC in totally viewers and among adults 25-54 during the late primetime slot when the news broke that the former Penn State assistant football couch was found guilty on 45 of 48 child abuse charges. FNC had 2.358 million total viewers in the 6-7 PM PT block, beating CNN’s 506,000, HLN’s 180,000 and MSNBC’s 774,000 put together. FNC had 473,00 viewers in adults 25-54 from 6-7, with CNN coming in at 231,000, MSNBC at 196,000 and HLN at 56,000. FNC anchor Shepard Smith helmed the cable network’s breaking news coverage Friday night on the East Coast and early Saturday out West, preempting regular programming. In the 7-8 PM hour, FNC had 2.369 viewers compared with CNN’s 1.289 million, MSNBC’s 774,000 and HLN’s 400,000. While every network’s numbers began falling after that, the viewership trend basically continued through the night and into the early morning in FNC’s favor.
