FX is the latest network to offer a preview of a series ahead of its premiere. In the vein of what its sibling Fox did with New Girl before its launch last year, FX will preview its breakout hit comedy series Wilfred across multiple platforms over a two-week period beginning June 14 in advance of the series’ Season 2 premiere June 28. But unlike New Girl and other shows that have done such sampling, the episode that will be made available beforehand will not be the season premiere but a special never-before-aired preview episode guest starring Robin Williams. Written by series developer David Zuckerman and directed by Randall Einhorn, the episode, titled “Progress”, features Ryan (Elijah Wood) ignoring Wilfred’s (Jason Gann) advice, which creates an existential crisis for both of them.

Starting June 14, the episode will roll out on video-on-demand through the network’s cable, satellite and telco distribution partners, online on Hulu and Yahoo TV, as well as FXNetworks.com and the Wilfred Facebook page. iTunes, which played a major part in New Girl‘s pre-premiere sampling, won’t be part of the Wilfred preview, which will conclude with the airing of the special episode on FX on June 21, following a rerun of Wilfred’s Season 1 finale.
