The now infamous Episode 10 from the first season of HBO’s hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones featuring the head of former president George W. Bush as a prop in a beheading scene, has been pulled from all digital platforms, including HBO Go and iTunes. Additionally, shipments of the DVD box set featuring the show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ commentary that drew attention to the use of the head as a prop, have been halted as HBO continues to mitigate the damage from the controversy.

The network has issued a new even stronger worded statement following their apology on Wednesday night. “We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste,” the network said. “We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this careless mistake. We condemn it in the strongest possible terms and have halted all future shipments of the DVDs, removed it from our digital platforms and will edit the scene for all future airings on any distribution domestic or international.”

Unless the creators were lying about how the head ended up in the series on the DVD (from what I read, it seemed sincere, but I’ve not acutally HEARD it).
Otherwise, it wasn’t done with malice and the response from everyone involved has blown this little bit of nonsense WAY out of proportion.
Just the the naughty cells in the Disney cartoons this Hollywood prank might have flown under the radar if they didn’t mention it on the DVD. Like cops joking over a corpse sometimes gallows humor relives the stress of the job.

This wasn’t George W. Bush’s head. Yes, the prop was based on Bush’s looks. But it wasn’t used in the context of calling for Bush’s beheading, or as any kind of political statement or allegory. It wasn’t the focus of the scene. It was a background prop for a series taking place in a medieval fantasy world. This was zero percent political. And NOBODY EVEN NOTICED IT UNTIL THE DVD COMMENTARY, meaning that if there WERE some kind of political message intended, it failed disastrously.
Let me guess, you probably also think that reverse racism is a bigger problem than actual racism, and that black people get off easier than white people when it comes to being arrested because of it. Am I far off?
