Surviving ABC daytime drama General Hospital will move into its new 2 PM slot on September 10 when it will serve as a lead-in for the premiere of Katie Couric’s new syndicated daytime talk show Katie, which will take over General Hospital’s long-time 3 PM time period. GH, which had to move out of the 3 PM berth, which had been promised to Couric, will inherit the 2 PM slot occupied last season by canceled lifestyle series The Revolution and, starting July 9 for two months by the Good Morning America offshoot Good Afternoon America. Approaching 50 years on ABC, General Hospital is the longest-running American soap opera currently in production and the third longest-running drama in American television history. It won a ton of trophies at Saturday’s Daytime Emmy Awards, including best drama series.

They will need to bring in some of the cast of previous time slot occupant One Life to Live to boost the ratings for the move. ABC wants this show dead. They need to spike the ratings hard and fast, pull out the big guns like Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser.

I agree totally!!..don’t we have enough talk shows already!!!..I think General Hospital being on the air for 49 years obviously says something!!..I think it a bad move to change air time to 2 pm..not only has it been at 3pm for as long as I can remember..but a good majority of their fan base are stay at home moms who unfortunately will be picking up their children at this time!This doesn’t make this mom happy..can’t you just give me my fantasy soap and spare me all this reality drama…don’t we have enough of that already??!! Sorry Katie but you won’t be getting this mommy’s ratings!

Well, really, isn’t that what they’ve been doing? Repopulating Port Charles with Llanview residents. I think the people who are running daytime at ABC know they canceled the wrong soap. By the fall, it will firmly be a mix of the two shows.
i’ll still watch general hospital at 2pm than i can watch days of our lives at 3pm.
gh is already at 2pm in the west coast….and when Katie fails, they will blame her lead in.
I wish they would give Ann Curry that talk show, she’s classy & wayyyyy smarter than Ms Couric.
I will watch or DVR General Hospital no matter what time slot it has. However I will not watch Katie Couric’s talk show. She is great on Primetime specials or early morning shows but TV does not need another talk show. Talk shows along with quasi-reality shows should just be put out their misery.

I’ve nver liked Katie Couric and now I have even more reason not to like her. I guess I’ll have to rely on SoapNet to see General Hospital at night. I don’t know why all of these TV networks keep bedning over backwards for Katie Couric. She has been on every major TV network and has not really succeded on any of them. When will the TV Executives learn that people do not like her no matter what network she is on. Her show on ABC won’t fair any better or last any longer then any of her previous TV show attempts. They should just leave General Hospital on at 3pm and see how long the Good AFternoon America show can pull in ratings at 2pm.

ABC took two of my other favorite shows off the air. I don’t care for Katie and we do not need another talk show or reality show. Please put classic TV shows on again like One Life to Live and All my Children. I will not watch Katie’s show.

Why did you bring back Heather Webber. I quit watching G.H. last time when she was on. I will have to stop watching again till she is gone or G.H goes off the air. All these people from Pinevalley can leave too. Too many story lines to follow.
Glad GH not cancelled……let’s keep it that way. So glad to see OLTL talent on show (that was my favorite soap). So, so sick of Katie, Katie, Katie and we don’t need another talk or food show in the afternoon and isn’t it time for reality and sing song shows to hit the trail? I’m 70 and want something day or night to get interested in…….not the dead brain shows….enough already! Bring back classic drama series and good laugh shows. Bottom line, guess not many good writers out there any more; so re-run some good old series tv.

Very funny how many people do not like Katie Couric – doesn’t bode well for her new show. I work full-time from home and time my gym time for GH. I’m a Luke and Laura fan from way back and still love it all! Love the mix of OLTL characters! Very smart!Fabulous! Man! i would love to see Erica pop by for a few episodes!
I am so tired of these talk shows. I am tired of these supposedly desired elite ICONS … FORCED in our faces all the time. I don’t care who Katie Couric is. What I saw of her on some other show is enough. To PLACE HER in a spot General Hospital has had for decades, its disrespectful and foul.
I will NEVER watch Katie Couric’s show. I am tired of talk shows. Until they put some other nationalities, or elders, or something new on these talk shows, I’m not watching. Its always the same old, same old. Its not about the color of the skin, or the age but we get the same THING repeatedly. With the options we get today,I’d be happy to see a blind man, hosting a talk show in braille, and his sidekick could be his all-seeing dog. At least it would be interesting and something to watch.
General Hospital being moved, really hurts. I’m not sure why. I just know SOME IDIOTS had some more of their great ideas that are actually FAILS!! This is one of those dumb ideas. smdh
