EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, veteran comedy showrunner Greg Malins has signed a rich overall deal with Sony Pictures TV. I hear the two-year pact does not call for Malins to join an existing series, focusing instead on development. Former Friends executive producer Malins spent the last two years under an overall deal at Warner Bros TV, the studio that produced Friends. He most recently co-created and executive produced with Greg Berlanti an untitled comedy pilot for CBS which was in serious contention but missed the cut. He also served as a consulting producer on WBTV’s breakout CBS comedy series 2 Broke Girls. Before that, he was executive producer/co-showrunner on WBTV’s comedy series Better With You. Before his recent stint at WBTV, WME-repped Malins was at 20th Century Fox TV, where he was an executive producer on the studio’s CBS series How I Met Your Mother and, alongside creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, helped guide the comedy’s steady rise.

Greg — Don’t take on any more “partners”. You don’t need them. BET ON YOURSELF!
I second that emotion.
Greg I’m so proud of you, you got it going on man. You did the work broke your neck, now do that dance and write those checks.

Love this guy. Love love love. When you’re a writer, and you find out Greg may have a show, you think, “holy shit, this job just got fun again.”
GREGGO!!!! No double ones for you buddy! Straight to a hundred.
“Oh Fuck, It’s You” was one of the best pilot scripts I thought. He got hosed. But this deal seems like a helluva nice consolation prize.
Congrats Greg! Everyone knows Greg is an immensely talented writer and gifted leader. He’s also one of those rare people who can write well and has the managerial skills to effectively run a show. What some might not know, is He also invented an insanely fun dice game called Greggo. Comedy rooms all over town enjoy that one!
Greg Malins, Greg Daniles, Greg Berlanti, Greg Mettler… lots of Gregs getting deals.
I’m just saying that’s a lot of Gregs. Someone might want to look into this.
