Santa Monica, CA – June 15, 2012 – GSN announced today that it has signed television executive producer and host Mike Richards (“Beauty and the Geek”) to host the pilot of the network’s new original half-hour game show, THE PYRAMID. GSN will shoot the pilot later this month.
Executive produced by prolific game show producer Michael Davies (“The Newlywed Game,” “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”) and Maureen FitzPatrick (“Donny & Marie,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”), THE PYRAMID is GSN’s contemporary take on one of television’s most beloved, fast paced, word-guessing game-shows. The celebrities, the Pyramid game board, the Winner’s Circle: everything viewers know and love about the iconic format is returning in GSN’s lively new version. The winner of nine Daytime Emmy® Awards during its storied 40-year career, Pyramid holds a special place in the hearts of generations of fans.
“We are thrilled to have found a talent in Mike Richards, who not only has great hosting ability, but whose vast producing experience makes him an expert in all that is game show,” said Amy Introcaso-Davis, Executive Vice President of Programming and Development, GSN. “We feel Mike is the perfect choice to carry on the tradition of THE PYRAMID, one of America’s most beloved television franchises.”
Richards currently serves as an Executive Producer for “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” and has created, produced and hosted several shows throughout his career. As the senior producer of the 2001 NBC daytime strip, “The Other Half,” Richards worked with Dick Clark. When the daytime strip ended its run – Clark brought on Richards as Vice President of Development and Current Series at dick clark productions, where he produced multiple episodes of ABC’s “Bloopers”, the WB’s “Family Television Awards”, “TV Guide’s Greatest Moments of the Year” for ABC and “The DVD Awards” for FX.
“I am honored to join the GSN family as host of THE PYRAMID,” said Richards. “I was fortunate to work alongside Dick Clark for many years. Not only was he one of the most respected game show hosts of all time, but he served as my mentor and it’s an honor to follow in his footsteps. This is an iconic game show that I grew up watching. I’m looking forward to introducing viewers to this fresh new version.”
Continuing to excel both behind the camera and in front, Richards has been a correspondent for the American Music Awards and for “Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve” with Regis Philbin. In addition, Richards served as host of the CW reality television series “Beauty and the Geek” as well as the WB reality series “High School Reunion” and “Dailies,” on ReelzChannel. He is a three time Daytime Emmy® Award nominee, including a nomination for this year’s Daytime Emmy ® Awards for “Let’s Make a Deal.”
THE PYRAMID is produced by Embassy Row in association with Sony Pictures Television with Michael Davies as executive producer. In addition to “The Newlywed Game” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” Davies has brought audiences fan-favorite shows such as “Power of 10,” Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” and “Kathy,” Oxygen’s “The Glee Project” and the GSN original “Chain Reaction.” Maureen FitzPatrick (“Donny & Marie,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”) also serves as executive producer.

I loved the original PYRAMID with DICK CLARK. I don’t understand why someone doesnt bring back the celebrity couple game TATTLETALES. Seems perfect for todays celebrity culture and you could expand it to celebs of all ages – not just married but gay couples and bf/gf long term relationships. It would be like the Newlywed Game with Celebs.
Started watching the show in Sept. Now cannot find where it is shown in Ft. Worth Tx area. Great show.
Didn’t they try this with Donny Osmond a few years back in syndication and it only lasted one season? I’m surprised GSN is not focusing more on the old game shows that gets them nice ratings but resorting to newer ideas that truly never pan out.
This is an OLD game show!
The Osmond reboot of Pyramid ran for two seasons back in 2001-2002, and was actually pulling decent ratings for a syndicated game show, but was pulled when Sony opted to get out of game show production after the 2002 season.
CBS ordered a couple of revival attempts at Pyramid about three years ago after cancelling long-running soaps like “As the World Turns” and “Guiding Light,” but rejected them in favor of a celebrity talk show and a reboot of the old ABC classic, “Let’s Make a Deal” which has proven very successful. Other reboot attempts – one with Chuck Woolery as host – never got off the ground after substantially reworking the game’s format.
Pyramid is one of daytime TV’s most successful game show enterprises, winning multiple daytime Emmy awards back in its heyday. It surely isn’t any worse an offering than the endless celeb chatfest shows or self-absorbed self-help fests like Dr. Phil, so I’m delighted at the thought this great show is making a comeback. Heck, I’d love to be a contestant.
GSN has no idea what they’re doing. It really won’t matter who the host is. This will be another piece of shit.
Bring back Match Game!!!!
LOVE $25,000 Pyramid…BUT PLEASE bring back Card Sharks….LOVE LOVE. LOVE that one…I hope GSN Keeps it alive but should really look into other shows, like Card Sharks or short lived Dog eat Dog.
100% agreed!
I would like to see a newer version of Name That Tune, and High Rollers, of course Match Game and Supermarket Sweep.
I loved the re-runs of the Match Game, and was disapoointed when GSN switched out their morning schedule. And i would be delighted if the Match Game were to be brought back. There ought to be some serious consideration for this idea. There was no more hilarious a game show than the Match Game, and i feel is worthy of resurrection.
Love the pyramid
Pyramid is a great show to record on my DVR to view at odd times of the day and night. It is a refreshing game show and a tribute to Dick Clark for keeping it on the air. I can appreciate the categories being up-to-date and somewhat educational so I can test myself on today’s knowledge. Mike Richards is good looking and a great host. Donny Osmond was too clicky is why he did not make It happen. Name That Tune would be wonderful to bring back. Match Game would be truly great with the right stars and the right type of questions…..get it on! There is a lot to say about good taste but also invigorating questions, categories and respect. I like television which makes me feel good, think a little and definitely makes me laugh outloud all be myself. Thanks!
NOTE: Steve Harvey on Family Feud is genius!
Have watched new pyramid and love it. Mike is a fabulous host of which Dick Clare would be proud. I like that format has remained pretty much the same. Hope it lasts a long time.
I love the game and love the twist of having 7 of 7 bonus. However, the celebrities are just awful. Their clue giving is horrendous. They do not hold a candle to the likes of Markie Post, Teresa Ganzel and others who were true masters of the game. Thank goodness for DVR which eliminates the fluff.
I just saw the new show for the first time — I liked it. What’s so funny is the contestant, Irv, was so clever, quick-witted & funny, *he* should be the host! I say: Bring back Irv!
I really enjoyed watching the old Pyramid game show. I prefer the reruns to the current day Pyramid show. I don’t know who any of the celebrities are and I had never seen Mike Richards before. I can’t tell who the contestants are from the celebrities. No one looks familiar. After a while, I realize who the celebrity is and he or she just laughs and laughs when they should be trying to help the contestants win money. This program gets on my nerves. Don’t know if I’ll continue to watch it anymore or not. It would be nice if they would get recognizable celebrities on the show. Now, about Family Feud with Steve Harvey. I do not like the fact that he does not let the audience know who the people in the families are. Don’t know if they are brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, etc. I think he just wants to save what little bit of time that takes to introduce them so that he can run his mouth more. Sure, he is funny, but he is so self-centered.
Don’t know if I can take watching him much longer. Wish he would be replaced.
Gsn has gotten rid of mostly old faves I loved reruns What’s My Line I used to record it I do like new pyramid but Gsn is wrong because I think their audience is not 20 but older and want the old reruns of our old game shows
Pyramid is a light and enjoyable Game show and Richards seems ok. It surely will relieve the tacky “Newlywed Game” and take up some space that kids can watch during daylight hours that isn’t filty.
Chain Reaction is also appreciated and somewhat educationsl. Family Feud is nice. Those are all I watch besides the Password versions.
Thanks for listening.
