The Bandito Brothers, the group that made the hit Act of Valor, is at it again with The Prototype. This is a hot package for an under $40 million action thriller in the vein of District 9 that wasn’t supposed to be auctioned until after I got back from vacation after July 4. Then the teaser leaked. Andrew Will is the writer and director and his producing partner is Shawn Wallace, and they have been working with Cantina Creative and the Bandito Bros in scouting, designing tests for the action scenes, etc. They worked under radar on Act of Valor, but no such luck this time. I got a peek at the teaser trailer, and it’s pretty impressive. WME Global chief Graham Taylor is getting barraged by calls, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a deal before the holiday. Check it out:

Holy f*@* this looks awesome.
Awesome in the sense of ‘lacks credibility, has terrible acting, a story that seems half-baked, and the whole thing reeks of straight-to-dvd’… Yes, AWESOME.
Fast cuts and adept graphics are dazzling until it turns out that it’s a big doughnut with no center.
Jonestown you should change you name to buzzkill. Go fly a kite. I’ll be at the movie theatre having fun.
I don’t think Jonestown is being pessimistic at all. I actually agree. BLADE RUNNER and a bunch of other flicks tackled the same subject two decades ago. This is comic book fluff with no relevance.
I think the Bandito Bros. are fantastic at keeping it house, shooting it pretty and cutting a hell of a trailer. AOV was underwhelming but they sold the hell out of it, which I guess is all we can ask for these days.
RoboCop 4, I’m there!
Is this appears at the movie theatre, them I’m a monkey’s uncle.
Agreed, Star Jonestown. The lead actor looks weak and ultimately the film looks like one endless chase. District 9, Blade Runner, Terminator–they all had a strong HUMAN element driving the chases and the story. Unless another trailer gives a better idea as to why we should care about the man-machine, I don’t see this doing well.
Under $40 million? Under $10 million seems more appropriate. Looks good though, and love the robot design. Hope it does well for Bandito Brothers and whoever distributes. Always good to see the box office reward creativity and innovation rather than just amount of $$ spent.
The prototype looks like a human-sized Iron Giant.
Interesting…
lolol I was thinking the same thing. Not menacing at all – more Wall-e than Bladerunner….
yeah not menacing with a big ass blade from its fist… we are supposed to root for a piece of metal fighting against real humans. again? HATE concepts like these. in Avatar i rooted for the humans.
I was thinking that the eyes looked exactly like the water creature from Hellboy, mixed with the look of the sock puppet machines from ’9′.
Yep, this could do very nicely indeed.
Can’t wait for the Bandito Brothers Unknown Soldier either.
Ehh looks pretty generic to me, and Im not buying why gov bounty hunters tracking a known robot are shooting it with bullets if they know its a freaking robot…
bullets still do physical damage weather you are an organic lifeorm or not, and judging by what the trailer reaveals the robot could still be partially human and might still feel something
NOPE
Another excuse for a 90 minute chase sequence in the dark. Looks like a bad sneaker commercial. Who greenlights this stuff for 40 million no less?
people that like big piles of cash
The Terminator meets… Short Circuit.
The Prototype guy looks hokey, like one of the steam punk moppets from “9.” I’d've kept him under wraps, showed him only from behind, etc.
Wow this looks awesome!
well that looks like a big piece of sh*t… good luck with that. I’m sure some one will pick this up. Execs always feel better if they can “see” it. Everything else suddenly becomes less important.
Been waiting for a new Terminator movie
The story premise may be able to carry a 90 minute movie. Hopefully, there are more daylight scenes in the director’s edit. The film clip can certainly be tightened to around two minutes.
this looks lame, who are you all kidding??
I think they try to kid you steve. And they’re failing miserably
Not bad cap, not bad at all.
looks terrible
Damn…Looks better than most studio movies. I’d definitely see it.
Robocop on the run? Shut up and take my money.
District 9??
Looks more like Robocop meets Terminator!
Looks like that Lance Reddick / Justin Lin DR0NE show that’s coming out in August on Youtube.
This is preliminary, right?
Great idea, failed execution
is this the Robocop reboot?
I have a dumb question: I this an actual movie or did they make this trailer in order to make this into an actual movie?
Damnit! This *could* have been an awesome film… Would have been much better if the trans/post human had a computational substrate and body composed of utility fog instead of a concrete, non-adaptive, robotic structure. Then it could wreak real havoc with little fear of a substantive human response.
Based on the trailer, it doesn’t look like this movie will come even remotely close to realizing the actual implications and outcomes of a singularity event.
This *could* have been an awesome film? You haven’t seen the film.
The trailer is plenty to judge from. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.
An action movie with some smarts, nice! Looks like part Bourne / part District 9 – I’ve read some of A Wills scripts and they are big and tight, so if they’re pulling this off for under $40M that really impressive because he’s going to deliver a lot.
Can’t wait to see where this lands.
