Here’s another trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, from The Weinstein Company. The first one focused on Joaquin Phoenix’s character’s restless and destructive nature, and now that character connects with Philip Seymour Hoffman’s The Master, who starts his own belief system. These are unorthodox vignettes, and it will be interesting to watch as more of the story unfolds in these trailers.

Still a better filmmaker than I am…
wasnt always a PTA guy but there will be blood, now this? he gets my vote for the filmmaker moving in the most interesting direction of anyone out there.
it will be a packed field this year at the Oscars, not like last year where it was almost embarrassing.
EXACTLY what I was feeling. I wasn’t crazy about Magnolia and Boogie Nights all though the latter was good for the most part. Punch Drunk was simple and beautiful. Then you see & read TWBB and you’re just blown the f**k away.
This looks very, very interesting.
I love Joaquin Phoenix!
Joaquin Phoenix will get an Oscar nod for this.
This movie looks really, really good. I mean like really good. So happy to see Joaquin Phoenix back in a meaty role.
amazeballs.
ditto.
This is why I like movies.
Finally, something to look forward to
That red shirt screams L. Ron.
Great script and the movie looks even better. PSH is in it just as much as Joaquin but they seem to be positioning him for Supporting Actor, which to me means Joaquin gives an unforgettable performance.
Amy Adams’ character is so creepy and scary in this.
love
Write something baffling and thump a washtub as musical background and the intellectuals come frothing at the mouth.
You’re an idiot. Go back to your Michael Bay collection.
Yeah, I hate intellectuals. All their book learning and intelligence. Just sickening.
Oscar, Oscar, oh and Oscar nomination. Boom-boom-boom! You know they all will be nominated. Oh and the director too.
There will be dud unless there is more action here than they are letting on.
PTA is certainly someone who understands the form and style of film very well but he does not really get the substance of it. It’s as if he has studied every film every made but never quite gets what a good story means.
But he is a Great visual director.
It’s called style, silly.
@Dave R … “never quite gets what good story means” I politely disagree. PTA has these tremendously successful moments both big and small in his films that are full of rich story. Reminds me a bit of Raymond Carver – someone who kicked the world in the face with brilliantly succinct and meaningful story. Magnolia itself begins on a micro level with several fragmentedly-interconnected yet succinct stories unto themselves, which in the macro sense of the film reveal themselves to be subtext and solution to the big story. That’s masterful use of story imho where he precisely gives meaning to a story with story itself. TWBB is again, masterful story, where he politely spares us a good chunk of time toward the end of the film and jumps right to what could almost be considered a denouement. He spares us time because he knows we already know the story that happens in-between. A courteous storytelling technique that he doesn’t waste the audience’s time with what we already know – the best storytellers can almost telepathically impart exposition, and PTA does so with precision. “Once you know all the rules, then you can break all the rules.” I think PTA is a perfect example of this through his evolving filmography, and his understanding of what good story means is nothing less than challenging and innovative.
Always love the Oscar!!!! comment troll flash mobs unleashed the day studios release a new trailer.
… zzzzz….
TWBB blew my mind. This movie looks fantastic. I love the Amy Adams/PSH reunion as well. Movies with grit.
