Here’s an early trailer for Flight, Robert Zemeckis’ return to live-action directing after his foray into performance capture animation. It is nice to see the helmer of movies like Forrest Gump, Cast Away and Back To The Future return to the screen, particularly with Denzel Washington as a troubled pilot who saves his passengers in a crisis, but has some baggage that endangers his career.

Welcome back Mr. Zemeckis…Welcome back, indeed.
Second that welcome back, Mr. Zemeckis.
ill watch anything with denzel.
Especially when he’s drunk flying jumbo jets upside down.
Isn’t that the trailer for Star Trek?
Looks like an entertaining and intelligent flick! Great combo of Denzel with Zemeckis at the helm. When’s the release date?
Looks awesome…thank you Robert Zemekis for coming back to live action and not that annoying animation that looks fake.
Now this looks great to me.
Excited to see Zemeckis back in the live action world. I think he is surprisingly underrated.
Oh boy. I love Zemeckis and this looks f**king awesome.
Thanks for including a shot of him outside a jail with a much shorter haircut hugging his son.
This will sweep the Oscars. Best Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay.
What are you all talking about? This looks like a good MOW. And even then, I’d TIVO. Bob, go back to sic fi. This feels…well…OLD.
Sorry.

Hopefully those on-board get a refund for their (non-complimentary) spilled drinks.
Damn, that looks good (and I never say that). Nice trailer, a real movie, not some vampire comic book BS. I’m in.
this seems depressing and frustrating to watch.
i shouldnt even waste my time doing this—-robert zemekis -denzel -don cheadle -john goodman and another tired old story cant they find any better stories-…..RIDICULOUS ehv2
Word. I, too, am so sick of ‘alcoholic-pilot-saves-lives-but-is-attacked-for-political-reasons’ dramas. Hello, Hollywood: some originality please!!!!!!
Oh yeah? Name six of them.
Wonk, look up ‘sarcasm’ in the dictionary.
pretentious.
Why? What’s pretentious about it?
It’s a shame actors like Will Smith and Denzel don’t take risks with their careers and refuse to star in anything that isn’t ego-driven. This will likely be the last film Denzel makes that reaches theaters. It’s direct to DVD from here on out unless something changes.
Very insightful.
Why because Every Denzel movie opens to at least over 20 million — in fact Safe House opened with 40 million this past February. Yeah, straight to video from here on out, if you say so…..
@Jake, unless he takes a new direction with his career, it’s over. Things like this usually just happen overnight. He may open to big numbers, but then suddenly, a new film just flops. His career has been going down for years. He does the same ego-driven movies that are all about Denzel saving the world. Can this guy even act with other high caliber stars? I’m beginning to doubt it. He’s been playing Training Day Denzel for 11 years, and it’s getting old.
“Can this guy even act with other high caliber stars?” You mean, like in ‘Cry Freedom’ when he acted circles around Kevin Kline? Or in ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ when he out-acted Meryl Streep? Or when he bested Morgan Freeman for an Oscar in ‘Glory’? Or when he went toe-to-toe with regular Shakespearian thesps Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’? Or when he stood his ground against Gene Hackman in ‘Crimson Tide’?
Granted, Washington has slowed down over the years and chosen star vehicles that haven’t challenged him creatively, but the guy is still a phenomenal actor, and has played with the best in the biz plenty of times.
Roger, you are an idiot. Denzel has worked in every kind of movie with all the great actors, and is one of the few people to win BOTH best supporting actor & best actor at the Academy Awards.
He is Hollywood royalty, hugely popular and incredibly talented.
He does not owe you anything. Please stop being a troll & posting such ridiculous bulls**t.
What’s the matter, Roger C? Did Denzel pass on one of your projects? Your transparent personal malice isn’t convincing anyone. Lately, Denzel has maintained a more consistent boxoffice career than most of his contemporary A-Listers or former A-Listers (Willis, Travolta, Crowe,Gibson, Costner, Stallone, Schwartzenegger). Check the last few films for any of those guys. Check Willis for anything that doesn’t have Die Hard in the title or Crowe for any movie lately where he is the sole star (Robin Hood was sold on the subject matter not Crowe). Denzel is a looooong way from straight to DVD and you know it. Considering Denzel hasn’t inflated his box office record by doing voice work in Pixar or other animated films (Tom Hanks, etc.), he’s done a pretty good job of staying popular.
Roger what planet are you on? At last count Safe House made over $200 million.
Denzel is the most bankable movie star over age 50. His drawing power is at an all-time high. His Porgy and Bess did gangbusters on Broadway.
Don’t why you hate Denzel (did he refuse to give an autograph? with your cheery attitude I can’t imagine why) but the only way he’ll be straight to video is if they close all the theaters.
Anyone who doesn’t love this trailer is a troll or you are crazy. This is a brilliant film and it’s tragic to think how many great films Bob Z could have directed if he hadn’t spent so many years doing his computer animation motion capture films. Hopefully he’s done with that stuff. He should try to direct one movie every year for the next 10 years to make up for lost time. Or he needs to build a real time machine and go back in time to avoid making all the mo-cap pics.
Hey buddy, don’t you mean this is a “brilliant LOOKING film”? Cuz you haven’t seen it yet. This is a trailer.
This looks great. Let’s hope it undoes the terrible taste in everyone’s mouth he left with polar express, beowulf, and christmas carol–three ugly mis-fires worthy of their lowly place in film history.
I know John Gatins well enough to say this was probably a very personal and very intense script to write, and that Zemekis and Denzel make it look really great…
Haters hate. I am really looking forward to this.
Ah, who doesn’t love a great Vietnam war ballad to go along with a Denzel Washington domestic melodrama? “Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away.”
Yeah, totally fits…(eye roll)
reminds me in some ways of Fate is the Hunter — different but similar.
btw – speaking of airplane investigation movies — did Crichton’s AIRFRAME ever get a movie? I never saw one, not even TV movie…
I’m just grateful that they didn’t cast Tom Hanks…..
I have to agree with those here who think the trailer looks good — and worth seeing. Looks epic and awesome to me. I’m there.
you can put “Gimme Shelter” over any trailer and it will look interesting…without it, this looks terrible…
Bob, you should have chosen better for your comeback. This feels high brow, and low box office. I thought you were going to do a time travel movie? Like in MIB3? Stick to your genre Mr. Zemeckis, because this flight looks like it won’t leave the ground.
You’re right, hardbuttrue: Zemeckis can only make time-travel films. Hang on, hasn’t he also done comedy (‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, ‘Used Cars’, ‘Death Becomes Her’), drama (‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Cast Away’), thriller (‘What Lies Beneath’), animation (‘… Roger Rabbit’, his last three films) and serious sci fi (‘Contact’)?
I haven’t loved everything he has done lately, but he has consistently delivered high box office receipts whilst consistently challenging himself creatively during his entire career. He’s shown that high box office doesn’t necessarily mean low brain cells.
