Fans of MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back took to the network’s offices in New York and Los Angeles last Wednesday to protest the recent cancellation of the praised comedy series. They were carrying some 500 pairs of jeans/pants mailed in by unhappy fans from around the country. Meanwhile, the producers of the series are still talking to TV networks and streaming services about picking Pants up.

At both the Los Angeles and New York buildings of MTV parent Viacom that house the network’s offices, the fans were stopped by security. In LA, they were eventually escorted to the mailroom where MTV head of programming David Janollari accepted the pants, which protesters said represent the impact the show has had on them. Fans also draped some of the pants over the Viacom sign and front lawn outside of the building. In New York, the pants did finally make their way to the office of MTV’s music group chief Van Toffler. The “save the show campaign” also includes an online petition and fans sending emails to MTV executives. Among its supporters is MTV’s Jersey Shore star Snooki.

The ol pants trick. Always nice to see fans do these weird stunts to save their shows. Must make the people who made the show feel good that they connected with people. This was a good series.
This is a better off-channel marketing idea than anything they did to promote the show.
Eeveryone in the industry really liked that show. But note to fans who do this, do it while show is still on the air, it works better. MTV can’t swallow their pride an take it back now, although they should.
I think most fans, like myself, assumed the show would be back for a second season, so why protest? It got great critical acclaim, and the ratings weren’t that bad. It would be a perfect companion for “Awkward”, the only other show on MTV for people with a brain and not trapped in a Snooki/Kardashian universe.
Viacom also owns Showtime, which would be smart to grab it up. But even better would be HBO who could pair it with “Girls”.
Better off bringing back “Road Rules” in its old non-voting format than this in terms of likely success. Show lasted 13 seasons for a reason.
I for one ‘completely believe’ the 500 pairs of pants were mailed in by “unhappy fans”.
I looked up mediocre in the dictionary. It said watch “I just want my pants back”.
This was a great show, I think everyone in the industry liked it. You won’t hear that about any other shows on MTV, save Awkward. That said, I think everyone in the industry would agree these fan efforts work better when the show is still on the air. Lil late now. Still the producers can at least enjoy the fact that their creation made people want to do this, which is kind of cool. Maybe it ends up somewhere that appreciates this passion.
I’m glad the fans of this show are not letting it go quietly into that good night. This was easily the best scripted effort to come out of MTV in years — just proves the network is more concerned with showing reality crap that gets huge ratings than critically acclaimed shows that should have a chance to grow over multiple seasons (a la a GIRLS on HBO). Screw MTV.
This show was terrible. Totally out of touch.
